  • Analysis of trace impurities in the bulk .gas has been very important with the development of semi-conductor related industry. In the paper, we reported the analysis of the trace impurites of carbon monoxide and methane in the bulk helium and hydrogen by the GC-TCD with a cold nitrogen trap. We compared these results by the paraallel analysis. All data showed a good correspondence, showing reliable statistical error ranges.

Nanocrystallization of Cu-Based Bulk Glassy Alloys upon Annealing

  • The Cu-based bulk glassy alloys in Cu-Zr-Ti-Ni systems were prepared by means of copper mold casting. The Cu-based bulk glassy alloys samples were tested by X-ray diffractomer (XRD), differential scanning calorimeter, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Instron testing machine and Vickers hardness instruments. The result indicated that the prepared Cu-Zr-Ti-Ni alloys were bulk glassy alloys. The temperature interval of supercooled liquid region (${\Delta}T_x$) was about 45.48 to 70.98 K for the Cu-Zr-Ti-Ni alloy. The Vickers hardness was up to 565 HV for the $Cu_{50}Zr_{25}Ti_{15}Ni_{10}$ bulk glassy alloy. The $Cu_{50}Zr_{25}Ti_{15}Ni_{10}$ bulk glassy alloys were annealed in order to obtain nanocrystals. The results showed that the Vickers hardness was raise up to 630 HV from 565 HV. As shown in XRD results, the amorphous alloys changed to nanocrystals, which were $Cu_8Zr_3$, $Cu_3Ti_2$ and CuZr, improved the hardness. The SEM analysis showed that the compression fractured morphology of amorphous alloys was brittle fracture, and the fracture morphology after annealing was ductile fracture. This proved that annealing of amorphous to nanocrystals can improve the plasticity and toughness of amorphous alloys.

  • Objectives: To evaluate the polymerization efficiency of a matrix-modified bulk-fill composite, and compare it to a conventional composite which has a similar filler system. The degree of conversion (DC%) and monomer elution were measured over different storage periods. Additionally, fillers' content was examined. Materials and Methods: Cylindrical specimens were prepared, in bulk and incrementally, from Filtek Bulk Fill (B) and Filtek Supreme XTE (S) composites using a Teflon mold, for each test (n = 6). Using attenuated total reflection method of Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy, DC% was measured after 24 hours, 7 days, and 30 days. Using high-performance liquid chromatography, elution of hydroxyethyl methacrylate, triethylene glycol dimethacrylate, urethane dimethacrylate, and bisphenol-A glycidyl dimethacrylate was measured after 24 hours, 7 days and 30 days. Filler content was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Data were analyzed using 2-way mixed-model analysis of variance (α = 0.05). Results: There was no significant difference in DC% over different storage periods between B-bulk and S-incremental. Higher monomer elution was detected significantly from S than B. The elution quantity and rate varied significantly over storage periods and between different monomers. SEM images showed differences in fillers' sizes and agglomeration between both materials. Conclusions: Matrix-modified bulk-fill composites could be packed and cured in bulk with polymerization efficiency similar to conventional composites.

  • We examine gas kinematics and star formation activities of NGC 6822, a gas-rich dwarf irregular galaxy in the Local Group at a distance of ~490 kpc. We perform profile decomposition of all the line-of-sight (LOS) HI velocity profiles of the high-resolution (42.4" × 12" spatial; 1.6 km/s spectral) HI data cube of the galaxy, taken with the Australian Telescope Compact Array (ATCA). To this end, we use a novel tool based on Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) techniques, the so-called BAYGAUD, which allows us to decompose a velocity profile into an optimal number of Gaussian components in a quantitative manner. We group all the decomposed components into bulk-narrow, bulk-broad, and non-bulk gas components classified with respect to their velocity dispersions and the amounts of velocity offset from the global kinematics, respectively. Using the surface densities and velocity dispersions of the kinematically decomposed HI gas maps together with the rotation curve of NGC 6822, we derive Toomre-Q parameters for individual regions of the galaxy which quantify the level of local gravitational instability of the gaseous disk. We also measure the local star formation rate (SFR) of the corresponding regions in the galaxy by combining GALEX Far-ultraviolet (FUV) and WISE 22㎛ images. We then relate the gas and SFR surface densities in order to investigate the local Kennicutt-Schmidt (K-S) law of gravitationally unstable regions which are selected from the Toomre Q analysis. Of the three groups, the bulk-narrow, bulk-broad and non-bulk gas components, we find that the lower Toomre-Q values the bulk-narrow gas components have, the more consistent with the linear extension of the K-S law derived from molecular hydrogen (H2) observations.

  • The specific some types of compressors are appropriate for a use in hydrogen gas station. Metal diaphragm type of hydrogen compressor is one of them, which can satisfy the critical requirements of maintaining gas purity and producing high pressure over 850 bar. The objective of this study is to investigate an characteristics of compression through two-way Fluid-Structure-Interaction (FSI) analysis as bulk modulus and initial volume of oil independently varies. Deflection of diaphragm, oil density, gas and oil pressure were analyzed during a certain period of compression process. According to the analysis results, bulk modulus and initial volume remarkably affected deflection of diaphragm, oil density, gas and oil pressure. The highest gas pressure were attained with the highest bulk modulus of $7e^9\;N/m^2$ and the lowest initial oil volume of 80 cc.

  • This experiment was performed in order to study the relationship between physical properties of soil and the growth characteristics of Sedum reflexum. A correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were performed using SPSS Ver 19.0 for Windows. The multiple regression analysis results of soil physical properties and growth characteristics were as follows. The regression equation: The length=$.993-14.070^*$(soil bulk density)+$.233^*$(solid phase)+$.038^*$(liquid phase)+$.068^*$(permeability). The significance of soil bulk density and solid phase was great. The width=$2.931-33.925^*$(soil bulk density)+$.566^*$(solid phase)+$.206^*$(liquid phase)+$.027^*$(permeability). The significance of soil bulk density and solid phase was great. The wet weight and dry weight of the upper and lower and soil physical properties did not have a direct relationship.

  • Recently, various attempts are made to increase the efficiency of railway freight transport including bulk cement, the most important transport item of railway transport market. The major seven cement companies have started common use of private bulk cement car since April 2008 for the efficiency of railway freight transport. At that time, major seven cement companies owned 75% of whole bulk cement car. Railway companies forecasted that this project will decrease the amount of cost and transport time of freight car. With these data, it analyzed the effectiveness of the joint use of freight car on actual used data.

Analysis of Community Structure of Metabolically Active Bacteria in a Rice Field Subjected to Long-Term Fertilization Practices

  • To estimate the effect of long-term fertilization on metabolically active bacterial communities in a rice field, RNA was extracted from endosphere (rice root), rhizosphere, and bulk soil that had been subjected to different fertilization regimes for 59 years, and the 16S rRNAs were analyzed using the pyrosequencing method. The richness and diversity of metabolically active bacteria were higher in bulk soil than in the endosphere and rhizosphere, and showed no significant difference between non-fertilized and fertilized plots. Weighted UniFrac analysis showed that each compartment had characteristic bacterial communities and that the effect of long-term fertilization on the structure of bacterial community was more pronounced in bulk soil than in the endosphere and rhizosphere. The 16S rRNAs affiliated with Alphaproteobacteria and Firmicutes were more abundant in the endosphere than in bulk soil while those affiliated with Chloroflexi and Acidobacteria were more abundant in bulk soil than in the endosphere. Several dominant operational taxonomic units (clustered at a 97% similarity cut-off) showed different frequencies between non-fertilized and fertilized plots, suggesting that the fertilization affected their activities in the rice field.

Tribological Behavior of Fe-based Bulk Amorphous Alloy in a Distilled Water Environment (수중환경에서 Fe계 벌크 비정질 합금의 트라이볼로지적 거동)

  • The tribological behavior of an Fe-based bulk amorphous alloy while sliding against a AISI 304 disc is investigated using a unidirectional pin-on-disc type tribometer in dry and distilled water environments. The rod-shaped bulk pins are fabricated by suction casting. The crystallinities of the bulk amorphous alloys before and after the friction tests are determined by X-ray diffraction. The friction coefficient and specific wear rate of the amorphous pin in the water environment are found to be twice and thrice as much as in the dry environment at a low applied pressure, respectively. However, at a higher pressure, the friction coefficient and specific wear rate are 0.4 and 1.02 mg/(Nm/s), respectively, in the water environment. A microstructure analysis shows that the worn surface of the alloy is characterized by delamination from the smooth friction surface, and thus delamination is the main wear mechanism during the friction test in dry sliding environment. In contrast, brittle fracture morphologies are apparent on the friction surface formed in distilled water environment. For the sample tested at a lower sliding speed, the XPS data from the oxide layer are similar to those of the pure element with weak suboxide peaks. For higher sliding speeds, all the main sharp peaks representing the core level binding energies are shifted to the oxide region.
