  • To research the characteristics of ion currents induced by Bujaijung-tang and Bojungikgi-tang, nystatin-perforated patch clamp technique under voltage-c(amp condition was used. Periaqueductal gray neuron was dissociated from Sprauge-Dawley rat, 10-15 days old. Cytotoxicity of Bujaijung-tang and Bojungikgi-tang showed incubation time and concentration dependent manner. Ion current activated by Bujaijung-tang and Bojungikgi-tang were inhibited by bicuculline and strychnine and CNQX. It can be suggested that Bujaijung-tang and Bojungikgi-tang modulate inhibitory and excitatory neurotransmitters-, GABA, glycine and non-NMDA, acticvated ion channels. Modulatory effect of Bujaijung-tang and Bojungikgi-tang was more greater in inhibitory neurotransmitters. Low concentration of Bujaijung-tang which dose not elicit ion current itself, activated GABA and glycine induced chloride currents. In this study, we can found that the activation of Bujaijung-tang and Bojungikgi-tang on non-NMDA subtypes of glutamate receptor is its major action mechanism and can be used as very effective Herb treatment on Myasthenia gravis patient.

  • Objectives : This study was designed to test the effect of a warm environment and Bujaijung-tang on immune and lipid metabolism in rats. Methods : The extract from Bujaijung-tang was made by the pharmacy department of Kyung-Hee oriental medical hospital. The animals were divided into four groups, by room or warm environment and Bujaijung-tang administration. Each group had 8 Sprague-Dawley Rats. We measured body temperature twice a week, body weight three times a week. After 3 weeks of experiment, serum lipid level, WBC, differential count, lymphocyte proliferation and immune cytokine concentration were measured. Results : 1. warm environment induced weight loss in rats. 2. warm environment induced a decrease of total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol gain. 3. warm environment and Bujaijung-tang induced an increase of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-${\alpha}$ concentration. Conclusions : The warm environment had a hyperlipidemia modulating effect. The warm environment and Bujaijung-tang had an immune modulating effect.

  • 1. Objectives The purpose of this study is to give an account of the effects of the Korean herbal medicine therapy which is based on the Sasang constitutional medicine for the patient who has suffered from Soeum-disease(少陰病). 2. Methods The subject is a 73-year old woman who has the symptoms caused by sequella of cerebral infarction and depression mood which are headache, dizziness, ostalgia, chilling, anorexia, general weakness. 3. Results We have diagnosed her as Soeumin(少陰人), and have prescribed Kwankae bujaijung-tang(官桂附子理中湯). 4. Conclusions The consequence is the accompanied headache, dizziness, ostalgia, chilling, anorexia, and general condition has improved.
