  • HVAC&R systems are the most energy consuming building services, representing approximately half of the final energy use in the building sector. Despite their significant energy use, there is a lack of a consistent and homogeneous framework to efficiently guide research. This research is about the energy consumptions of HVAC&R systems, with the aim of establishing a common idea for the analysis of building energy efficiency. Our approach deals with the concept of an HVAC&R set that is composed of subsystems. A matrix combination evaluation is examined, and a total of 960 sets can be implemented in a large scale office building. A method as a tool for energy evaluations of HVAC&R systems, and HEET as a energy simulation program, were developed.

  • This study develops an optimization program to use optimum design of building HVAC system reducing building energy use and cost. Doe20pt developed is an interface program between DOE2 and GenOpt to perform the optimization procedure more easily. The optimum results can be used to estimate the economical efficiency concerning the building management.

  • In planning a building retrofit, energy conservation, thermal comfort and economic benefits should be considered. In this study, retrofit effects of exterior insulating method on preventing condensation, saving energy were analyzed through the heat transfer simulation, energy simulation in the apartment house retrofitted by exterior insulating method cheaper than other retrofit methods. The results of this study show that the retrofit using exterior insulating method can prevent the condensation at the corner walls and save about 20% of annual heating load. The LCC analysis revealed to be effective to select a dryvit system for a building retrofit.

  • This study aims to presents the applicability of apartment building for renewable energy systems using method of uncomplicated calculation and computer simulation. According to the weather conditions (NASA Surface meteorology and Solar Energy) analysis, it has been found that photovoltaic and wind power system can be applied to apartment buildings application. In case study considering layout and block plan, adaptation of solar water heating, photovoltaic and wind energy system to apartment buildings was proved to produce a profit. And the application strategies of renewable energy systems can be used not only for the investment decisions for economic analysis but also for the comparative analysis of uncomplicated calculation and computer simulation.

  • In all building's energy simulation applications, solar radiation must be calculated on inclined surfaces. Various solar radiation models based on measured data of specific region were used in building simulation programs. Therefore, we should choose the appropriate solar radiation model for Seoul. The purpose of this study is to compare four solar radiation models on inclined surfaces that are widely used in building energy simulations. In this case, it can be said the appropriate model in Seoul is the Isotropic model.

  • Many countries have been interested in sustainable development of buildings for environmental preservation. Thus it is significant to assess building envelopes in terms of $CO_2$ emissions owing to Kyoto Protocol. In this paper, a Double Skin Facade(DSF) installed in a general office building was assessed by $CO_2$ emissions(one of the performance-based assessment). To predict $CO_2$ emissions caused by the building energy consumption, the dynamic simulation program(Energy Plus) and $CO_2$ emission factor was used. Because DSF has various airflow regimes, pre-simulation runs were conducted to decide proximate optimal airflow regimes depending on seasonal variation. It is shown that the DSF can achieve 17.1-36.5% of annual energy savings.

공공 건축물의 그린빌딩화를 위한 리노베이션수법의 타당성 연구 (of Renovation for Green Building of Public BuildingA Study on Adequacy)

  • The aims of this study is to analyze that the double-skinned outer surface of building will be the effective measure to improve the use of space and save energy through the evaluation of the buildings renovation. In other words, it is significantly effective to increase the insulation of the outer surface where the most heat loss occurs; it is also energy-saving to convert the space created by pilotis in the southern and northern parts of the buildings into an double-skinned atrium. Research methods of this study are consisted with two steps, situation analysis and simulation analysis. IRISYS 1000 Series Imager was used for research of situation analysis and Visual DOE 4.0 was used for simulation analysis with the 1st Buildings of Jeju Special self-Governing Province. As results of simulation, it was proved that Double skin Method is more effective for green building than basic model. it was predicted to save 8.6% of energy by Double skin Method. Especially, in case of using of ventilation within double-skinned atrium, it was predicted that saving of energy was most effective than other method.

Retrofit of a UK residential property to achieve nearly zero energy building standard

  • It is currently agreed upon that one of the major challenges in the construction industry is the energy efficiency of existing buildings. The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and United Nations (UN) have reported that the concentration of global atmospheric carbon dioxide has increased by an average of 50%, a record speed, from 2015 to 2016. The housing sector contributes to 45% of the UK's carbon emissions. To help tackle some of those issues the recast Energy Performance Building Directive (EBPD) has introduced Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEBs) in the coming years (including buildings that will undergo refurbishment/renovations). This paper will explore the retrofitting of a UK residential dwelling using Thermal Analysis Simulation (TAS, EDSL) software by focusing on building fabric improvements and usage of on-site renewables. The CIBSE Test Reference Year (TRY) weather data has been selected to examine the performance of the building under current and future climate projections. The proposed design variables were finally implemented in the building altogether on TAS. The simulation results showed a reduction in the building's annual energy consumption of $122.64kWh/m^2$ (90.24%). The greatest savings after this were achieved for the annual reduction in carbon emissions and avoided emissions, which were 84.59% and $816.47kg/CO_2$, respectively.

  • 본 연구에서는 창문을 통한 건물의 에너지손실을 알아보기 위해서 창호시스템의 구조체를 모델링하여 구조체 재질에 따른 열적 손실부분을 분석하였고, 건물에서 창문을 통한 난방부하변화량을 알아보기 위해서 시뮬레이션을 통하여 건물을 모델링하여 창문의 종류와 구조체의 재질에 따른 건물의 에너지 변화량과 온도 변화를 분석하였다.

  • Computer simulation of buildings and solar energy systems is being used increasingly in energy assessments and design.. Building designers often now predict the performance of buildings simulation programmes that require hourly weather data. However, not all weather stations provide hourly data. Climate prediction models such as HadCM3 also provide the daily average dry bulb temperature as well as the maximum and minimum. Hourly temperature values are available for building thermal simulations that accounts for future changes to climate. In order to make full use of these predicted future weather data in building simulation programmes, algorithms for downscaling daily values to hourly values are required. This paper describes a more accurate method for generating hourly temperature values in the South Korea that uses all three temperature parameters from climate model. All methods were evaluated for accuracy and stability in terms of coefficient of determination and cumulative error. They were compared with hourly data collected in Seoul and Ulsan, South Korea.
