  • We consider a finite-buffer discrete-time queueing system with fixed-size bulk-service discipline: Geo/ $G^{B}$1/K+B. The main purpose of this paper is to present a performance analysis of this system that has a wide range of applications in Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and other related telecommunication systems. For this purpose, we first derive the departure-epoch probabilities based on the embedded Markov chain method. Next, based on simple rate in and rate out argument, we present stable relationships for the steady-state probabilities of the queue length at different epochs: departure, random, and arrival. Finally, based on these relationships, we present various useful performance measures of interest such as the moments of number of packets in the system at three different epochs and the loss probability. The numerical results are presented for a deterministic service-time distribution - a case that has gained importance in recent years.s.

  • Many studies on flash memory-based buffer replacement algorithms that consider the characteristics of flash memory have recently been developed. Conventional flash memory-based buffer replacement algorithms have the disadvantage that the operation speed slows down, because only the reference is checked when selecting a replacement target page and either the reference count is not considered, or when the reference time is considered, the elapsed time is considered. Therefore, this paper seeks to solve the problem of conventional flash memory-based buffer replacement algorithm by dividing pages into groups and considering the reference frequency and reference time when selecting the replacement target page. In addition, because flash memory has a limited lifespan, candidates for replacement pages are selected based on the number of deletions.

  • One of the most important things in the research for MIN-based switch operation the management scheme of network cycle. In the traditional MIN, when the receving buffer module is empty, the sell has to move forward the front-most buffer position by the characteristic of the conventional FIFO queue. However, most of buffer modules are almost always full for practical amount of input loads. The long network cycle of the traditional scheme is thus a substantial waste of bandwidth. In this paper, we propose the modeling method for the input and multi-buffered MIN with unit step buffering scheme, In spite of simplicity, simulation results show that the proposed model is very accurate comparing to previous modeling approaches in terms of throughput and the trend of delay.

  • Wireless Body Area Network(WBAN) is a network standard around a human body which connects various medical sensor and devices It has to satisfy various demands such as data transmission rate, priority, and delay time. In this paper, considering a data priority and transmission delay time, is proposed to improve efficiency of WBAN service depending on congestion status of network. The proposed algorithm operates with adapted data removal probability according to data priority when the hub buffer is congested than before. And in the case of lower congestion within the hub buffer data is served considering data delay time. Through the comparison with other existing scheduling algorithms, it is confirmed that quality of WBAN service is improved due to lower data loss rate of medical data and less delay time in the proposed algorithm.

  • Flash memory has rapidly deployed as data storage. However, the flash memory has a major disadvantage that recorded data cannot be dynamically overwritten. In order to solve this "erase-before-write" problem, the log block buffer scheme used Flash memory file system. however, the current managements of the log buffer, in case random write pattern, BAST technique have problem of frequent merge operation, but FAST technique don't consider merge operation by frequently updated data. Previous methods not consider merge operation cost and frequently updated data. In this paper, we propose a new log buffer management scheme, called JBB. Our proposed method evaluates the worth of the merge of log blocks, so we conducts the merge operation between infrequently updated data and its data blocks, and postpone the merge operation between frequently updated data and its data blocks. Through the method, we prevent the unnecessary merge operations, reduce the number of the erase operation, and improve the utilization of the flash memory storage. We show the superiority of our proposed method through the performance evaluation with BAST and FAST.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of vegetation changes and structures in the buffer green zone of Sihwa Industrial Complex and propose environmental, ecological and multi-functional vegetation management directions. The density of the Pinus thunbergii decreased from $23.1trees/100m^2$ in 2006 to $9.6trees/100m^2$ in 2017 due to the influence of thinning works. Its green volume increased from $0.97m^3/m^2$ to $2.02m^3/m^2$, contributing to the improvement of the atmospheric environment and promotion of biodiversity. The density of deciduous broad-leaved trees at the top maintained at $18{\sim}21trees/100m^2$. In the areas where the understory vegetation was removed, Pueraria lobata spread as an invasive plant and disturbed the forest. In the areas where the understory vegetation was not removed, various native plant species including the Rhus javanica and Celtis sinensis were introduced and contributed to the development of a forest in a multiple structure. There was a concern with the spread of Robinia pseudoacacia which developed into understory vegetation in Pinus thunbergii forest and some canopy forest. The study proposed vegetation management directions for the back, top and front side according to the physical structure of large-scale buffer green zone formed in a long linear form and the usage characteristics of adjacent land.

  • Recent advancements in wireless networks have enabled support for mobile applications to transfer data over heterogeneous wireless paths in parallel using data striping technique [2]. Traditionally, high performance data transfer requires tuning of multiple TCP sockets, at sender's end, based on bandwidth delay product (BDP). Moreover, traditional techniques like Automatic TCP Buffer Tuning (ATBT), which balance memory and fulfill network demand, is designed for wired infrastructure assuming single flow on a single socket. Hence, in this paper we propose a buffer tuning technique at senders end designed to ensure high performance data transfer by striping data at transport layer across heterogeneous wireless paths. Our mechanism has the capability to become a resource management system for transport layer connections running on multi-homed mobile host supporting features for wireless link i.e. mobility, bandwidth fluctuations, link level losses. We show that our proposed mechanism performs better than ATBT, in efficiently utilizing memory and achieving aggregate throughput.

  • Although line production systems with finite buffers have been studied over several decades, except for some special cases there are no explicit expressions for system performances such as waiting times(or response time) and blocking probability. Recently, a max-plus algebraic approach for buffer-sharing systems with constant processing times was introduced and it can lead to analytic expressions for (higher) moment and tail probability of stationary waiting. Theoretically this approach can be applied to general processing times, but it cannot give a proper way for computing performance measures. To this end, in this study we developed simulation models using @RISK software and the expressions derived from max-plus algebra, and computed and compared blocking probability, waiting time (or response time) with respect to two blocking policies: communication(BBS: Blocking Before Service) and production(BAS: Blocking After Service). Moreover, an optimization problem which determines the minimum shared-buffer capacity satisfying a predetermined QoS(quality of service) is also considered.

  • Many object oriented database systems manage object buffers to provide fast access to objects. Traditional buffer replacement algorithms based on fixed length pages simply assume that the cost incurred by operating a buffer is propertional to the number of buffer faults. However, this assumption no longer holds in an objects buffer where objects are of variable length and the cost of replacing an object varies for each object. In this paper, we propose a cost based replacement algorithm for object buffers. The proposed algorithm replaces the have minimum costs per unit time and unit space. The cost model extends the previous page based one to include the replacement costs and the sizes of objects. The performance tests show that proposed algorithm is almost always superior to the LRU-2 algorithm and in some cases is more than twice as fast. The idea of cost based replacement can be applied to any buffer management architectures that adopt earlier algorithms. It is especially useful in object oriented database systems where there is significant variation in replacement costs.
