The purpose of this study was to develop a buckling analysis technique for a windpower system structure under environmental loadings (hydrostatic pressure) using FEM. We analyzed an isotropic material and composite material and made a comparison using buckling pressure formulas. First, finite element analyses for an isotropic material (SC410) were performed to obtain the variation of buckling pressure for the number of elements and boundary conditions in a pressure-shell model, and the numerical results were compared with those of existing empirical formulas. Then, additional finite element analyses based on the results of the isotropic material (SC410) were performed to determine the optimum lamination angle and pattern for a composite material (URN300). The results of the FE analyses for the composite material were also compared with those of existing empirical formulas. The ply orientations (lamination angles) used in the FE analyses were $0^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $75^{\circ}$, and. The lamination patterns in the FE analyses were and. The lamination pattern was assumed to be the equivalent model of. The results of the FE analyses for the isotropic material (SC410) indicated that the optimal values for the number of elements and the boundary conditions were 6000 and both simply supported, respectively. The results of the FE analyses for the composite material (URN300) showed that the optimal ply orientation was $60^{\circ}{\sim}75^{\circ}$.
This paper reports a simple and versatile technique for generating highly controllable sinusoidal nanostructures on the surface of poly-(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS). The sinusoidal features were generated by oxidizing PDMS slabs with oxygen plasma, then stretching them by wrapping around a cylinderical surface, and finally allowing them to relax. The wavelength and amplitude could be finely controlled by varying the fabrication conditions such as duration of oxidation, diameter of the glass cylinder, duration of stretching, thickness of the PDMS slabs, and temperature during the second hardening process. The varied trends of the buckling patterns were characterized by using an atomic force microscope.
The primary objectives of this paper are to describe the buckling patterns and to determine the squash load of steel plate-concrete (SC) walls. The major variables in this study were the width-thickness (B/t) ratio and yield strength of surface steel plates. Six SC walls were tested, and the results include the maximum strength, buckling pattern of steel plates, strength of headed studs, and behavior of headed studs. Based on the test results, the effects of the B/t ratio on the compressive strength are also discussed. The paper also presents recommended effective length coefficients and discusses the effects of varying the yield strength of the steel plate, and the effects of headed studs on the performance of SC structures based on the test results and analysis.

This stability of a plate structure is very crucial problem which results in wrinkle and bucking. In this study, the effect of the pattern of spot-welding points of the two rectangular plates on the compressive and shear bucking load is studied with respect to the thickness, aspect ratio of plates and number of welding spots. Buckling coefficient of the plate not welded was compared with that of two plates with various thickness to extract the effect of thickness. The effect of number of welding spots are studied in two directions, longitudinal and transverse directions. The conclusions obtained were that the reinforcement effect was maximized when the aspect ratio was close to 1.75 at compressive load condition and that the effect of number of welding spots in transverse direction was larger than that in longitudinal direction at shearing load condition.
This paper discusses the elastic stability of unbraced frames under non-proportional loading based on the concept of storey-based buckling. Unlike the case of proportional loading, in which the load pattern is predefined, load patterns for non-proportional loading are unknown, and there may be various load patterns that will correspond to different critical buckling loads of the frame. The problem of determining elastic critical loads of unbraced frames under non-proportional loading is expressed as the minimization and maximization problem with subject to stability constraints and is solved by a linear programming method. The minimum and maximum loads represent the lower and upper bounds of critical loads for unbraced frames and provide realistic estimation of stability capacities of the frame under extreme load cases. The proposed approach of evaluating the stability of unbraced frames under non-proportional loading has taken into account the variability of magnitudes and patterns of loads, therefore, it is recommended for the design practice.

This paper derives numerically the buckling Knockdown factors using two different initial imperfection models, such as geometric and loading imperfection models, to investigate the unstiffened composite cylinder with an ellipse pre-buckling deformation pattern. Single Perturbation Load Approach (SPLA) is applied to represent the geometric initial imperfection of a thin-walled composite cylinder; while Single Boundary Perturbation Approach (SBPA) is used to represent the geometric and loading imperfections simultaneously. The buckling Knockdown factor derived using SPLA is higher than NASA's buckling design criteria by approximately 84%, and lower than buckling test result by 9%. The buckling Knockdown factor using SBPA is higher than NASA's buckling design criteria by about 75%, and 14% lower than the buckling test result. Therefore, it is shown that the buckling Knockdown factors derived in this study can provide a lightweight design compared to the previous buckling design criteria while they give reasonably a conservative design compared to the buckling test for both the initial imperfection models.

The bending and buckling behaviours of FG-GRNC laminated sandwich plates are investigated by using novel five-variables quasi 3D higher order shear deformation plate theory by considering the modified continuum nonlocal strain gradient theory. To calculate the effective Young's modulus of the GRNC sandwich plate along the thickness direction, and Poisson's ratio and mass density, the modified Halpin-Tsai model and the rule of the mixture are employed. Based on a new field of displacement, governing equilibrium equations of the GRNC sandwich plate are solved using a developed approach of Galerkin method. A detailed parametric analysis is carried out to highlight the influences of length scale and material scale parameters, GPLs distribution pattern, the weight fraction of GPLs, geometry and size of GPLs, the geometry of the sandwich plate and the total number of layers on the stresses, deformation and critical buckling loads. Some details are studied exclusively for the first time, such as stresses and the nonlocality effect.
The nonlinear snap-through buckling of functionally graded (FG) carbon nanotube reinforced composite (CNTRC) curved tubes is analytically investigated in this research. It is assumed that the FG-CNTRC curved tube is supported on a three-parameter nonlinear elastic foundation and is subjected to the uniformly distributed pressure and thermal loads. Properties of the curved nanocomposite tube are distributed across the radius of the pipe and are given by means of a refined rule of mixtures approach. It is also assumed that all thermomechanical properties of the nanocomposite tube are temperature-dependent. The governing equations of the curved tube are obtained using a higher-order shear deformation theory, where the traction free boundary conditions are satisfied on the top and bottom surfaces of the tube. The von Kármán type of geometrical non-linearity is included into the formulation to consider the large deflection in the curved tube. Equations of motion are solved using the two-step perturbation technique for nanocomposite curved tubes which are simply-supported and clamped. Closed-form expressions are provided to estimate the snap-buckling resistance of FG-CNTRC curved pipes rested on nonlinear elastic foundation in thermal environment. Numerical results are given to explore the effects of the distribution pattern and volume fraction of CNTs, thermal field, foundation stiffnesses, and geometrical parameters on the instability of the curved nanocomposite tube.

Two way grid single-layer domes are of great advantage in fabrication and construction because of the simple fact that they have only four members at each junction. But, from a point of view of mechanics, the rectangular latticed pattern gives rise to a nonuniform rigidity-distribution in the circumferential direction. If the equivalent rigidity is considered in the axial direction of members, the in-plane equivalent shearing rigidity depends only on the in-plane bending rigidity of members and its value is very small in comparison to that of the in-plane equivalent stretching rigidity. It has a tendency to decrease buckling -strength of dome considerably by external force. But it is possible to increase buckling strength by the use of roofing covering materials connected to framework. In a case like this, shearing rigidity of roofing material increases buckling strength of the overall structure and can be designed economically from the viewpoint of practice. Therefore, the purpose of this paper, in Lamella dome and rectangular latticed dome that are a set of 2-way grid dome, is to clarify the effects of roofing covering materials for increasing of buckling strength of overall dome. Analysis method is based on FEM dealing with the geometrically nonlinear deflection problems. The conclusion were given as follows: 1. In case of Lamella domes which have nearly equal rigidity in the direction of circumference, the rigidity of roofing covering materials does not have a great influence on buckling-strength, but in rectangular latticed domes that has a clear periodicity of rigidity, the value of its buckling strength has a tendency to increase considerably with increasing rigidity of roofing covering materials 2. In case of rectangular latticed domes, as rise-span-ratio increases, models which is subjected to pressure -type-uniform loading than vertical-type-uniform loading are higher in the aspects of the increasing rate of buckling- strength according to the rate of shear reinforcement rigidity, but in case of Lamella dome, the condition of loading and rise-span-ratio do not have a great influence on the increasing rate of buckling strength according to the rate of shear reinforcement rigidity.

The buckling and postbuckling behaviors were sutdied analytically and experimentally for stiffened laminated composite panels under compression loading. The panels with I-, blade, -and hat-shapeed stiffeners were investigated. In the analysis, the stiffened panels were anlyzed using the nonlinear finite element method combined with an improved arc-length method. The progressive failure analysis was done by adopting the maximum stress criterion and complete unloading failure model. The effects of the fiber angles were investigated on the buckling and postbuckling behaviors. In the experiment, the web and the lower cap of each stiffener were formed by the continuous lay-up of the skin for cocuring the stiffened panels. Therefore, the separation between stiffener and skin was not found in the junction part even after postbuckling ultimate load and the stiffened panels had excellent postbuckling load carrying capacity. A shadow moire thchnique was used to monitor the out-of-plane deformations of the panels. The piezoelectric films were attached to the panels to get the failure characteristics of the panel. The analytical results on the buckling load, postbuckling ultimate load, and failure pattern showed good agreement with the experimental results.
