구획화재에서 벽면의 열전도 계수와 내부 온도의 상관관계 분석 (Investigation of the Relationship Between Wall Thermal Conductivity and Inner Room Temperature in Compartment Fires)

  • 본 연구에서는 Buckingham 파이 정리를 이용하여 구획 공간에서 화재가 발생한 경우 벽면을 구성하는 재료의 열전도 계수와 내부 온도의 상관관계에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 이를 위해서 기존 무차원 변수의 주요 인자를 고려하여 발열량, 열전도계수, 구획공간의 체적, 벽면 두께 그리고 대류 열전달 계수의 관계를 분석하였다. 또한, 발열량에 대한 화염에서의 최대 온도 그리고 벽면의 온도를 산출하기 위해서 내화보드를 사용하여 ISO 9705 룸 코너 시험기(Room Corner Tester)의 1/6 크기를 갖는 축소 규모의 구조물을 제작하였으며, 10 cm, 15 cm 그리고 20 cm인 정사각형 화원에 대해서 가솔린 화재실험을 수행하여 국부 지점의 산소 농도와 화염에서의 온도분포를 측정하였다. 그 결과 대류 열전달 계수와 열전도 계수의 변화에 따라서 외벽에서의 온도가 증가하는 조건을 제시하였으며, 발열량 변화에 대한 Buckingham 파이의 무차원 경험식을 도출하였다. 본 연구 결과는 구획 공간에서 외벽 형상 및 열전도 계수의 변화를 고려한 화재 현상을 연구하기 위한 기초 자료의 활용이 가능할 것으로 사료된다.

버블 플룸을 이용한 탈성층의 평가: 차원해석 및 설계방법론의 제시 (A Study on Destratification System Using Bubble Plume: Dimensional Analysis and Design Methodology)

  • In this study, we derived a new non-dimensional variable including bubble size and air diffusing area by Buckingham's theorem for making a practical correlation with experimental results. Firstly, we drew a relationship between a non-dimensional variable, $NH/u_s$, which has a form of Froude number and destratification efficiency with a simple theoretical consideration. Then we derived two non-dimensional variables by Buckingham's ${\pi}$-theorem and equating them with a form of $Fr_N$ for making single parameter to correlate overall destratification efficiency. As the result, the single parameter Be number shows a correlations with destratification efficiencies obtained from laboratory and pilot experiments. Also, for the practical applications, we conducted multiple regression analysis using Be and tank area to make predictive equations about destratification efficiency. The result also shows a successful correlations with destratification efficiency ($R^2$>0.9, p<0.001). Using this equation, we proposed a new design methodology with respect to bubble diffusing area.

벨트식 유회수기의 유회수율 데이터의 무차원화 과정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Nondimensional Analysis for the Recovery Rate of Oil Using a Belt Type Skimmer)

  • Removal of spilled oil over the sea and the river has become one of the urgent problems in these days. Removing oil using mechanical devices by adhesion method is known to be closely related with the problem of estimating the thickness of film remaining on the surface of solid withdrawn from a quiescent liquid. In the present study a series of experimental results are compared with the analytic estimation for the thickness of film remaining on the solid surface using non-dimensional analysis. For the case of pure water both results show the remarkable agreement. However, discrepancy has been found for the case of Bunker C oil and diesel oil. The analytic estimation over-predicts the experimental value for the case of Bunker C oil and under-predicts it for the case of diesel oil. Further study is required to investigate the real situation including a contact angle and the property difference between oil and water.

Small scale experimental testing to verify the effectiveness of the base isolation and tuned mass dampers combined control strategy

  • This paper presents the most significant results obtained within a broad-ranging experimental program aiming to evaluate both the effectiveness and the robustness of a Base Isolation (BIS) and a Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) combined control strategy (BI & TMD). Following a brief description of the experimental model set-up and the adopted kinematic scaling technique, this paper describes the identification procedures carried out to characterize the system''s model. The dynamic response of a small-scale model to recorded earthquake excitations, which has been scaled by using the Buckingham pi-theorem, are later presented and discussed. Finally, the effectiveness and robustness of the combined control strategy is evaluated by comparing the model's dynamic response. In particular, reduction in relative displacements and absolute accelerations due to the application of different mass damping systems is investigated.

A Generalized Correlation and Rating Charts for Mass Flow Rate through Capillary Tubes with Several Alternative Refrigerants

  • A capillary tube, which is a common expansion device in small sized refrig-eration and air-conditioning systems, should be redesigned properly to establish an optimum operation cycle of a refrigerating system with alternative refrigerants. Based on experimental data for R-22, R-290, and R-407C, an empirical correlation is developed to predict mass flow rate through capillary tubes. Dimensionless parameters are derived from the Buckingham Pi theorem, considering the effects of operating conditions and capillary tube geometry on mass flow rate. Approximately $97\%$ of the present data are correlated within a relative deviation of $\pm\;10\%.$ The present correlation also predicts the data obtained from open literature within $\pm\;15\%.$ In addition, rating charts of refrigerant flow rate for R-12, R-22, R-134a, R-152a, R-407C, R-410A, R-290, and R-600a are developed.

자동차용 블록식 온도감응 팽창밸브의 모델링 (Modelling of an Automotive Block Type Thermostatic Expansion Valve)

  • The objective of this study is to propose two empirical correlations to predict the mass flow rate through an automotive block type thermostatic expansion valve and then to evaluate the correlations. The first correlation is deduced by modifying the basic equation of the orifice meter for the mass flow rate and the second correlation is deduced by using the Buckingham's ${\pi}$ theorem. The first correlation showed very good agreement on the measured data for R134a, given by Monforte. Average relative deviation and standard deviation of it are 2.5% and 1.6%, respectively. The second correlation agreed on the same measured data with a little greater deviations. The two correlations may apply to common expansion valves which have different geometrical sizes of the same shape.

  • 활성(活性)슬러지법(法)에 의한 폐수처리(廢水處理)에서 가장 중요(重要)한 단위조작(單位操作)의 하나인 폭기특성(曝氣特性)을 연구(硏究)할 목적(目的)으로 드라프트 튜브가 부착(附着)된 팔각형(八角形) 폭기조(曝氣槽)와 piched blade형(形)의 터빈을 설치(設置)한 폭기장치(曝氣裝置) 모델을 제작(製作)하여 터빈의 모양을 여러가지로 변화(變化)시켜 이 모델에서의 산소이동속도(酸素移動速度), 소비동력(消費動力) 및 유속(流速)과 유태(流態)를 실험(實驗)에 의하여 측정(測定) 및 조사(調査)하고 평가(評價)했다. 그리고 그 결과(結果)를 무차원(無次元)으로 수식화(數式化)하여 폭기조(曝氣槽)에서 폭기특성(曝氣特性)을 연구(硏究)함으로써, 폭기조(曝氣槽)에서의 터빈의 합리적(合理的)인 모양 결정(決定) 시도(試圖)하였다.

Environmental Noise Prediction using Scale Model: A Measurement Methodology

  • Today, rolling stock has become a fast and convenient mode of transportation and has witnessed increased demand. But the speed improvement has resulted in increased aerodynamic noise and therefore residential districts near the railroad tracks are exposed to ever increasing noise level. A study on methodologies for measuring and appraising rolling stock's environmental noise has therefore become an important area of endeavor. In the case of the environmental noise, there are no changes in tone so prediction can be made by reducing areas around the railway. The present study explores estimation of the noise around the railway using scale model, and the source of the noise has been investigated as well. The scale model of rolling stock will have to be able to measure high frequency noise and it is required to be generated in a short amount of time. Since popping a balloon or firing a gun fits this requirement the present study analyzed the characteristics of these two different noise sources. Measurement was made in a large vacant lot and the reflection due to the ground was also examined. The method proposed here can be used in the future for predicting the environmental noise of railway vehicles.

R-410A 임계영역 운전조건에서 오리피스의 성능특성에 관한 연구 (Performance of Short Tube Orifices Using R-410A Near the Critical Region)

  • An experimental investigation was performed to develop an empirical correlation of R-410A flowing through short tube orifices working near the critical region. Tests were executed by varying upstream pressure from 2,619 kPa to 4,551 kPa, and upstream subcooling from 2.8 and $11.1^{\circ}C$. The experimental data were represented as a function of major operating parameters and short tube diameter. As compared to mass flow trends at normal upstream pressures, flow dependency on upstream subcooling became more significant at high upstream pressures due to a higher density change. Based on the database obtained from this study and literature, an empirical correlation was developed from a power law form of dimensionless parameters generated by the Buckingham Pi theorem. The correlation yielded good agreement with the data. Approximately $92\%$ of the data were correlated within a relative deviation of $5\%$.

금속선을 삽입한 니트라민계 추진제의 연소특성 (Burning Characteristics of Nitramine Propellant Embedded with Metal Wires)

  • 본 연구에서는 RDX가 함유된 HTPB/AP/Al 추진제내에 Ag선을 단선 삽입하여 RDX 함량(0~20%)에 따른 추진제 연소속도와 Ag선 0.15mm를 삽입하였을 때 금속선과 인접한 추진제의 연소속도($r_w$)의 변화를 살펴보았고, RDX 10%가 함유된 추진제를 대상으로 금속선 3종(Ag, Cu, Ni-Cr선)을 직경(0.1~0.6mm)별로 $r_w$/$r_{sb}$와 압력지수(n)의 변화를 고찰하였다. 금속선을 삽입한 RDX를 함유한 니트라민계 추진제의 경우 직경이 0.1 mm인 Ag선을 삽입하였을 때 연소속도 증가비가 압력 1000psia에서 5.94배로 RDX를 함유하지 않은 HTPB/AP추진제의 경우에 비해 약 16.4% 크게 나타났으며, 그 이유는 니트라민계 추진제의 자연발화온도가 상대적으로 낮기 때문이라 판단된다. 또한 금속선의 물리적 성질인 열확산 계수, 녹는점, 직경, 추진제의 열역학 특성치인 연소기체 불꽃온도, 추진제의 자연발화 온도와 연소속도가 $r_w$에 영향을 주는 인자로 고려하여 무차원해석에 의한 실험식을 도출한 결과($r_{wc}$-$r_{we}$)/$r_{we}$ 절대값의 표준편차는 6.11%로 기존의 3개의 무차원군을 사용한 경우의 표준편차보다 17.5% 작아짐을 알 수 있었다.
