  • The systematic study on the bryozoans from the South SEa in Korea was done with the materials collected at 49 localities from 1965 to 1991. As a result, 57 species in two suborders of cheilostomaous bryozoans were identified, which seven species, Electra tenella, Labioporella bursaria, Dendrobeania longispinosa, Sinupetraliella gigantea, Cryptosula pallasiana, Hippopodina feegeensis and Durystomella bilabiata were new to Korean fauna. The unrecorded species and the species which need remarking were described with plates.

  • This study aims to clarify the diversity of bryozoans which were collected from Seogwipo waters in Jeju Island, Korea. A total of 78 species has been reported from Seogwipo waters so far. In the present study, 63 species were found from nine sites of Seogwipo waters from 2008 to 2012, including six newly added species to the Korean bryozoan fauna and twelve species new to Seogwipo waters. As a result of this study, the bryozoans from Seogwipo waters were turned out to be 96 species, 64 genera, 42 families, three orders and two classes.

  • This paper describes three cyclostomatous bryozoans belonging to the family Tubuliporidae Johnston, 1838 from Korean waters. It was carried out with the materials which were collected from three localities during the period from 2011 to 2017. As a result of the present study, three cyclostomatous bryozoans, Exidmonea intercalata Liu, Liu & Zágoršek, 2019, Qingdaoella conaria Liu, Liu & Zágoršek, 2019 and Tubulipora perforata Liu, Liu & Zágoršek, 2019 are newly added to the Korean bryozoan fauna. Furthermore, two genera, Exidmonea David, Mongereau & Pouyet, 1972 and Qingdaoella Liu, Liu & Zágoršek, 2019, are reported for the first time from Korea. These species were previously known only in Qingdao, China, which belongs to the temperate zone influenced by the Kuroshio Current. Descriptions and illustrations of the three cyclostomatous bryozoans using Scanning Electron Microscopy are provided in this study.

  • Four cyclostomatous bryozoans from Korea belong to the genera Bicrisia, Nevianipora, Tubulipora and Crisia are described here for the first time. Of which, Bicrisia erecta Mawatari & Mawatari, 1973, Nevianopora pulcherrima (Kirkpatrick, 1890) and Tubulipora similis Liu in Liu, Yin & Ma, 2001 are newly added to the Korean bryozoan fauna, and Crisia spissus n. sp. is new to science. These species in this study are identified based on three features, which are its pseudopore, gonozooids and ooeciostomes. Two genera, Bicrisia and Nevianopora, are new to the Korean bryozoan fauna. As a result of this study, nine Korean cyclostomatous bryozoans in seven genera, five families are reported.

  • Development process of benthic community on experimental substrata attached on a newly installed artificial reef complex in Jeju Island was observed for 27 months from 1992 to 1994. Among 34 species of algae and 64 species of zoobenthos obtained from the study, Ecklonia cava dominated with a maximum biomass of about $10kg/m^2$. It was able to smother the other animals, however it provided a new substrate for the new settlers. Opportunistic bryzoans such as Likenopora radiata and Dexiospira spirillum occurred during the early stage were substituted by poriferans, banacles and other bryzoans. Young barnacles were smothered by bryozoans, on the contrary, bryozoans were bulldozed by adult barnacles. No apparent differences have been observed between vertically and horizontally installed substrates in terms of species composition and biomass during the early stage of succession. Thereafter owing to the rapid growth of E. cava, the horizontal substrata carried on a higher biomass while the vertical showed a higher coverage. The benthic process on the experimental substrata can be classified into three stages: initial stage, build up stage and regulatory stage. Important mechanisms involved were canopying of E. cava, suffocation by bryozoans and poriferans, and bulldozing of adult barnacles.
