Trisodium phosphate 12 hydrate and citric acid monohydrate mixture showed the strong anti-sticking effect on Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus mitis, and Streptococcus salivarius, which are adhered to glass beads. Each Streptococcus species was shaking-cultured in brain heart infusion broth containing three glass beads. After 18 hr, glass beads were slightly washed into normal saline by three-pin-pointed pincette. Each three glass-beads set was put into reagent -containing tubes, which have 40 mg of bits of weighing paper for gaining brushing effect as similar as brushing one's teeth. The tubes were shaken by vortex mixer for 10 min except non-oral microbe, Streptococcus agalactiae (5 min). The samples were colony-counted by serial agar dilution method. Experiment was repeated three times for each Streptococcus species. The relative ratios of bacterial de-adherence by reagents were calculated in comparison with normal saline control. The de-adherence degree of citric acid-trisodium phosphate-saline mixture (CTS, pH 6.0) against Streptococcus mutans came to an average of 12.5 times compared with normal saline control. Trisodium-saline (TS, pH 8.4) showed the average of 7.5 times, and citric acid-saline (CS, pH 4.6) showed 6.0 times compared to the control group. The bacterial de-adherence degree against Streptococcus salivarius was each 7.2,2.6 and 2.8 times in above reagent sequence in comparison with saline control. CTS and TS showed 2.4 and 3.4 times of anti-sticking effect on Streptococcus mitis respectively, but CS had no anti-sticking effect on this bacterium. CTS, TS and CS showed 0.7, 0.6, and 0.6 times on non-oral microbe, Streptococcus agalactiae, separately compared with saline control. These results show that oral Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus salivarius, and Streptococcus mitis, which are causative of dental caries or subacute endocarditis, may be easily removed from oral cavity by CTS mixture. It is conceivable that our experimental results will enable the development of a new conceptive toothpaste to prevent dental caries or subacute endocarditis after drawing teeth.
The purpose of the study is to confirm the effect of the oral health management program in exemplary kindergartens for prevent the dental caries. The study performs the survey on the parents about the changes in the oral health behaviors after the oral health education in April 2012 and measures the patient hygiene performance (PHP) index before the education, after the education and 3 weeks after the education to assess the removal capability to plaque on the teeth surface for the children. The analysis is performed on 130 people who join the program and respond the survey. There is no change in the behavior related to the tooth brushing of children after the oral health education. No change is found from the interest in the oral health education (p>0.05) but the recognition in the importance of the tooth positively change, as well as recognition of the tooth brushing method and the reaction to recommending to tooth brushing. The PHP index of children is significantly improved from 3.87 before the education through 2.71 after the education and 3.27 3 weeks after the education (p<0.001). The observation from the patents shows that their children have interest in preventing the cavities including 33.1% after having xylitol and 60.7% after the oral health education. In conclusion, the study confirms the effect of the oral health management program in exemplary kindergartens to prevent the cavities, meaning that it is required to activate the programs and keep implementing the programs including providing xylitol and education for teachers, parents and children to habituate the oral health behavior of the children and completely learn toothbrushing method under continuous management and reeducation.
The purpose of this survey research was to investigation the relationship among dental health state, care and knowledge of patients who participate in dental hygiene process of dental hygiene students voluntarily. And the following conclusion were obtained from questionnaires for 266 volunteers using SPSSWIN 12.0. 1. For the dental health state according to sex distinction, it showed that women (DMFT index: 13.0) was higher than men (DMFT index: 10.4) and statistically significant difference. This study is designed to present basic materials necessary for offering the more effective way of dental hygienists, or those who are in charge of the education of Oral health, the treatment and prevention of dental problems, educating Oral health by stage by dint of determining the actual condition of the knowledge and management of dental hygiene, or prevention of the basic dental disease except the professional methods of dental management and evaluating their abilities to manage dental hygienes. In terms of the real conditions of the management of dental hygienes, the majority of the subjects said, "not bad" or "healthy". Most of them (62.1%) said that they brush their teeth three times a day, and most of them (85.2%) depend on rolling methods. 69.2% of them used brushes that are neither hard nor soft, and 28.4% of them use soft brushes and 49.7% of them brush their teeth for about 3 minutes. In terms of brushing time, 27.8% of them brush their teeth after lunch, while 23.8% of them brush their teeth after breakfast. 66.3% of them use fluoric tooth pastes while 19.5 percent of them said, "I have no idea." and 14.2% of them said, "No." In terms of complementary dental hygiene goods, dental goggles are used by 23% of them, and dental threads are used by 78.1% and tooth brushes are used by 78.1% of them, and 42.4% of the subjects use the instruments one to twice a day, and 53.8% of them use them for less than one minute a time. In terms of dental health care, 17.2% of them have a chew of gum and 8.3% of them pay a regular visit to dental clinics and 5.3% of them don't smoke.
This study was conducted to provide basic understanding regarding possible enamel erosion by three kinds of fist-aid antipyretic and analgesic medicines over a period of time, with comparison and analysis of the resulting deciduous teeth surface and microhardness changes. The analysis was performed using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) to examine the surface erosion and changes. The Kruskal-Wallis test show differences in surface erosion and changes after 3, 5 and 8 days of treatment as well as before and after the treatment in each group. According to the results, there was no significant difference in the early deciduous teeth enamel surface microhardness (p>0.01). However there were signigicant changes after 3, 5, and 8 days (p<0.01). Calcim (Ca) and phosphorous (P) analysis using EDX showed significant differences in the enamel characteristics according to each tissue area after 8 days (p<0.05), but there was no significant difference in any of the areas for P content (p>0.05). In the surface observation with the SEM treatment with Children's Tylenol$^{(R)}$ tablet, which has the lowest pH, looked the roughest, followed by Brufen syrup for children and Children's Tylenol$^{(R)}$ suspension. Based on these results, it should be considered that antipyretic and analgesic medicines for children, which have lower pH values, may cause tooth erosion. Hence, it is necessary to give special attention to oral hygiene in young children or infants by brushing their teeth after such drugs are administered.

This study was conducted to investigate treatment tendency and dental caries occurrence after receiving insurance coverage for pit and fissure sealing. Data were obtained from statements for insurance payments received by the Daejeon branch health insurance review and assessment service from December 2009 until December 31 2014. As to the Pit and Fissure Sealing current state by year, there was most a lot of the number of examinee and the treatment number of teeth in 2010. The per capita average treatment number of teeth was highest (3.39) in 2013. As to the result that it analyze the first molar Pit and Fissure Sealing in 2010 according to the general feature, man was high than the woman, it showed up by age in the age of 7 most highly, and the summer was the highest among by season. The upper jaw left first molar was the most common location, although the upper jaw on the right side first molar, lower jaw right side first molar, and lower jaw left first molar were also affected. In 2010, the procedure was conducted more in the upper jaw right side first molar and enforces the recharge since 2011 to 2014, men were treated more than women, the recharge which is the most abundant in the age of 7 was performed by age, and the procedure was performed more during summer than in other seasons. It is forecasted that at August, 2015 most high demand shows according to the result that it predicts the tooth treatment number until December 2015 based upon the treatment number of teeth from December 2009 until November 2014 and be reduced in comparison with the year 2014. Thus, tooth brushing alone is not sufficient to prevent dental caries. Indeed, conducting pit and fissure sealing in infants and toddlers, as well as elementary middle and high school oral health centers is expected to be effective at preventing dental caries.
In order to develop the program of oral hygiene education for elementary school senior-students, a questionnaire survey of elementary fourth, fifth and sixth students who are under continual control program of oral hygiene. (1) For tooth brushing time, after dinner is more than before. 73.7% of respondents brushed the teeth twice or more a day. (2) 62.1% of respondents took the cariogenic food twice or more a day. (3) 90.1% of respondents had visited a dental clinic. (4) Concerning fear for dental treatment, only 14.4% had a feeling of fear. (5) Regarding the experience with a preventive treatment, 39.7% had an experience with pit and fissure sealing, and 24.2% had an experience with the application of fluorides. (6) 46.2% of respondents had a preference for the fluoride mouth rinsing program, and 38.4% wanted that program to keep going on. As to the reason to favor the fluoride mouth rinsing program, 38.2% preferred it because of prevention of dental caries, and 43.0%, the largest percentage, didn't favor it because they found it too much trouble to do. (7) Comparing with the research result in 2000, we proved positively the educational effect of brushing frequency, positive understanding and preference to water school fluoridation program, and got the negative data of experience of visiting to oral clinic and preventive treatment.
The aim of this study was to investigate the correlations between the self-reported symptoms of periodontal diseases and the quality of life. This study conducted its questionnaire survey over the subjects of 450 adults who had ever visited dental clinics among the adults of age 35-65 living in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do region from January 7 to March 14, 2010. The data were analyzed using a chi-square test, t-test, binominal logistic regression analysis in the SPSS version 12.0 program. Among the self-reported symptoms of periodontal diseases, 65% of respondents perceived that 'I bleed from the gums in brushing my teeth', which was the most, whereas 18.8% of respondents perceived to 'tooth mobility', which was the least. Self-reported symptoms of periodontal diseases was associated with socio-demographic characteristics such as sex, age, level of education and periodic oral examination, dental scaling(p<0.05). People who perceived the symptoms of periodontal diseases experienced functional limitation, physical pain, psychological discomfort, disability in diverse domains, and social handicap more than the group who did not perceive them(p<0.001). OHIP-14 scores were significantly correlated with sex, bleeding gums, swollen gums and bad breath(p<0.05). This study showed the self-reported periodontal problem had a negative impact on the public's leading their happy life. Therefore, in order to enhance the quality of life in adults, it is necessary to prevent periodontal diseases and reduce the subjective symptoms.
This study examined the relationship between oral health behaviors and in senior citizens to determine how to improve their happiness index. The subjects in this study were 260 senior citizens aged 65 years or older, who resided in North Jeolla Province. A survey was conducted from June 17 to 30, 2016. The happiness index of elderly people who brushed their teeth more often and had dental checkups on a regular basis was significantly higher (p<0.05). Evaluation of subfactors associated with quality of life related to oral health showed significant differences in functional disturbances according to gender, age, the presence or absence of a spouse, and the use or nonuse of dentifrice (p<0.05). Physical pain significantly varied with the presence or absence of a spouse, educational level, monthly mean allowance, and regular dental checkups (p<0.05); significant differences were found in psychological discomfort according to gender, tooth brushing frequency, and regular dental checkups (p<0.05). There were significant differences in declining physical capacity according to gender, age, educational level, and monthly mean allowance (p<0.05); waning mental capacity significantly differed with age, living alone or with another person, the presence or absence of a spouse, and regular dental checkups (p<0.05). The factors that influenced the happiness index in senior citizens were age, living alone or with another person, educational level, monthly mean allowance and the Oral Health Impact Profile score (p<0.05). The study showed that measures are needed to improve the quality of life and happiness index in elderly people, including the development of oral health programs for this population.
The purpose of this research was to find out their perception of the dental hygiene and level of its knowledge by estimating status of senior adults' dental health management. First, questionnaires were distributed to the 256 target senior adults aged more than 60, who were going to school for senior adults located in Ulju Country and the survey was conducted by interview directly. The results were as follows; 1. As for tooth brushing method, scrubbing method was used in male and rolling method was used in female and the survey results statistically revealed that rolling method was the most used in aged from 60 to 70(68.1%) and scrubbing method was the most used in aged more than 70(80.4%)[p < 0.001]. 2. As for reason of visiting dental clinic, female respondents accounting for the highest said they visited dental clinic when they feel a pain in the teeth and as for frequence of dental clinic, male respondents visited dental clinic for a once per a year. there was no difference statistically according to age(47.9%). 3. As for the perception of the necessity of dental prosthetic treatment, there was higher positive response in the female than male, in the lower aged groups than higher aged group[p<0.05]. 4. As for the question of whether to use of denture or not now, the survey results was statistically that the higher aged group and male groups were higher used dentures [p < 0.001]. 5. As for maintenance of denture, female respondents said the highest that they keep it in cold water after cleaning(95.5%), there was no difference statistically according to age and educational background [p < 0.001].
