  • This paper presents a characteristic analysis method for an air gap flux density of axial-flux type brushless dc (BLDC) motor. The magnetic flux density for the torque, and vertical force characteristics is calculated by using analytical method, based on the concept of magnetic charge. The calculated results by the presented method is compared with those by 3 dimensional finite element method (3D FEM). Using the presented method, the characteristics of single and double sided axial-flux type BLDC motors are investigated through distributions of air gap flux density.

  • The paper presents the software control of a brush-less do motor with parameter identification. Not only speed and current controls but also a real-time identification of the motor parameters can be implemented by software using the digital signal processor TMS320F240. The DSP Controller TMS320F240 from Texas Instruments is suitable for a wide range of motor drives TMS320F240 provides a single chip solution by integrating on-chip not only a high computational power but also all the peripherals necessary for electric motor control. This new family of DSPs enables single chip, cost effective, modular and increased performance solutions for BLDC drives. The present paper describes how a speed controlled brushless DC drive can be implemented using TMS320F240 and what kind of results can be achieved.

  • In this paper, various reduced parts converter topologies and control strategies for power factor correction and motor control are reviewed and systematic design methodology is developed. From this investigation, the converter topologies could be mainly categorized into cascade type and unified type. The detailed operational principles are examined and the performance comparison is derived to illustrate merits and limitations of the converters. Simulation results are provided to help the better understanding of the theoretical description and several experimental results are presented on prototype induction motor better brush less dc (BLDC) motor drives, along with cascade and unified type converters.

  • The cogging torque and torque ripple in motor which cause noise and vibration are an inevitable phenomenon and they give a bad effect to motor performance. So we are required to reduce the cogging torque and torque ripple not by electrical controlling but by changing the inner mechanical structure and we focused on the permanent magnet. In this research, we calculated current, torque, Back-EMF(electromotive force) and cogging torque according to the change of the magnet shape using two dimensional FEM(Finite Element Method). Maxwell stress tensor and time-stepping method. From the results, we present an appropriate model that can satisfy both low cogging torque, low torque ripple and high efficiency.

  • We design and analyze two type stators for brushless DC linear motors by the experiment and the computational analysis. For a U-shape stator, the maximum manetic flux density by the finite element method(FEM) is large than that by the experiment by 1.0~2.2%. The result by the FEM is so accurate that it can be applied to the geometric design for the optimization. To increase the maximum magnetic flux density, we suggest an improved stator and analyze it by the 3-D and 2-D models. The maximum magnetic flux density of the improved stator is large than that of the U-Shape stator by 2.7%. Considering the size of the improved stator and maximum magnetic flux density, we determine that the optimized thickness is 5mm for a given specification.

  • Implementation and experimental verification of a simple neuro-controller (SNC) as a speed controller for a brush less DC (BLDC) motor is presented. The SNC with one weight and a linear hard limit activation function is trained on-line using the back propagation algorithm. A modified error function is used to ensure good performance during the on-line training, which has been used without previous off-line training. The SNC has been implemented using a computer-interface card mounted on a PC. The driving system performance has been investigated by a number of experimental tests for a variety of input reference speed trajectories.

  • The 7-phase BLDC motor is possible for higher efficiency per the unit area, high power and high speed due to the increasing number of phase. Also, it can be looking forward to reduce the current ripple at a point of commutation by the increasing number of phase. Thus, a study for applications of servo system, medical and military instruments is progressing about the BLDC motor is manufactured with multi-phase, currently. This paper is used the fuzzy logic control method for speed control of 7-phase BLDC motor and this is compared with the conventional PI controller using by simulation and experimental results for verification validity of the fuzzy logic controller in this system. The 7-phase BLDC motor and controller are modeled by PSIM6.0 software of PowerSim co. in simulation and we are experimented by the test board that is composed with TMS320VC33-150 DSP controller of Texas Instruments co. and FLEX EPF6016TC144-3 of ALTERA co.

  • Torque ripple control of brush less DC motor has been the main issue of the servo drive systems in which the speed fluctuation, vibration and acoustic noise should be minimized. Most methods for suppressing the torque ripples require Fourier series analysis and either the iterative or least mean square minimization. In this paper, the novel approach to achieve the ripple-tree torque control with maximum efficiency based on the d-q-0 reference frame is presented. The proposed method optimize the reference phase current waveforms including even the case of 3 phase unbalanced condition, and the motor winding currents are controlled to follow up the optimized current waveforms by delta modulation technique. As a result, the proposed approach provides a simple and clear way to obtain the optimal motor excitation currents. The validity and practical applications of the proposed control scheme are verified through the simulations and experimental results.

  • This paper describes the fault diagnosis based on real-time data of the inverter system for brush less DC motor drive. After identifying all the fault types in the inverter system, a preliminary typical analysis of fault types has been classified into the key fault symptoms. The predicted fault performances are then substantiated by using ACSL(Advanced Continuous Simulation Language), and the simulated results are composed of knowledge-base. The real-time measured data from the inverter system are compared with the simulated knowledge-base through the inference engine of expert system, which have been used to diagnose the fault causes. If some faults may occur in the inverter system, this system will be stopped. And then the expertise of elimination and remedial strategies about the fault causes, will be supplied rapidly to operator who doesn't know well about the inverter drive system.system.
