이온교환법에 의한 탈질소 공정개발의 기초연구(II) (Basic Study for Development of Denitrogenation Process by ion Exchange(II))

  • Ion exchange performance to remove nitrate in water was studied using commercially available strong base anion exchange resin of Cl- type in the batch and continuous column reactors. The performance was tested using the effluent concentration histories for continuous column or equilibrium conquilibrium between resin and solution. Anion exchange resin used in this study was more effective than activated carbon or zeolite for nitrate removal. With large resin amount or low initial concentration, nitrate removal characteristics for a typical gel-type resin was Increased. On considering the relation between the breakthrough capacity and nitrate concentration of the influent, the use of anion exchange resin were suitable for the hi선or order water treatment. The nitrate removal of above 90% could be possible until the effluent of above 650 BV was passed to the column. Thus, the commercially available strong base anion exchange resin of $Cl^-$ type used in thins study could be effectively used as economic material for treatment of the groundwater. The breakthrough curves showed the sequence of resin selectivity as $SO_4^{2-}$ > $NO_3$ > $NO^{2-}$ > $HCO_3^-$. The results of this study could be scaled up and used as a design tool for the water purification system of the real groundwater and surface water treatment processes.

활성탄 흡착공정에서의 요오드계 트리할로메탄 흡착 특성 (Adsorption Characteristics of Iodo-Trihalomethanes (I-THMs) in Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Adsorption Process)

  • This study accessed the adsorption characteristics of the 9 trihalomethanes (THMs) on coal-based granular activated carbon (GAC). The breakthrough appeared first for $CHCl_3$ and sequentially for $CHBr_2Cl$, $CHBr_3$, $CHCl_2I$, CHBrClI, $CHBr_2I$, $CHClI_2$, $CHBrI_2$, and $CHI_3$. The maximum adsorption capacity (X/M) for the 9 THMs with apparent breakthrough points ranged from $1,175{\mu}g/g$ (for $CHCl_3$) to $11,087{\mu}g/g$ (for $CHI_3$). Carbon usage rate (CUR) for $CHCl_3$ was 0.149 g/day, 5.5 times higher than for $CHCl_3$ (0.027 g/day).

극세섬유를 이용한 VOCs흡착 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on VOCs Adsorption Properties Using Fine-fiber)

  • 이 연구는 근로자 및 인체에 유해한 휘발성유기화합물질인 benzene, toluene, p-xylene을 흡착제거할 수 있는 흡착제를 개발하고자 하였다. 따라서 그 것을 위하여 기존 상업용 흡착효율을 높이고자 KOH/ACF(activated carbon fibers)를 몰비 1:1로 ACF를 재활성 시켜 기존 ACF와 재 활성 시킨 ACF와의 흡착효율을 비교 검토하고자 하였다. 그 결과 각 물질에 대한 흡착시간에 따른 흡착파과효율(%)는 농도가 클수록 커져 빠른 파과속도를 보였고 또한 농도를 125PPM으로 고정시키고 유량을 0.5$\ell$/min에서 탈착실험을 통한 흡착효과의 재현성은 toluene과 p-xylene의 경우 유사한 경향을 보였다. 그러나 benzene의 경우 재활성한 ACF가 재활성 되지 않은 상업용 ACF보다 오히려 탈착효과가 낮은 것으로 관찰되었다.

대청호 원수내 냄새 및 THM 제거방안 연구 (Removal of Odor and THM from the Raw Water of Daecheong Dam)

  • 대청호 원수를 취수하여 정수하는 대청수도에서 이취미를 제거하고 THM(Trihalomethanes) 발생량을 줄이기 위하여 기존 표준정수공정에 오존과 활성탄여과공정을 추가한 pilot plant 실험을 수행하였다. pilot 실험결과 표준정수공정에서 DOC(dissolved organic carbon)는 약 25% 제거되었으나, 오존공정에서는 거의 제거되지 않았고, 30일이 지난 후 GAC(granular activated carbon)에서는 약 75%까지 제거되는 것으로 나타났다. 표준정수공정에서 이취미는 약 30%, 오존산화공정에서 약 60%정도 제거되었고, 활성탄여과에서 대부분 제거되었으나, Column 1과 2에서는 DOC와 같이 이취미물질도 파과(breakthrough) 되는 것으로 나타났다. 전염소처리 대신에 중1, 2염소처리를 도입할 경우 전염소처리와 비교하여 약 25%정도의 THM발생량이 감소하였으며, 후염소처리만할 경우 약 30%까지 감소하는 것으로 나타났다.

활성탄소섬유 흡착bed에서의 톨루엔 흡착특성 (Adsorption Characteristics of Toluene in the Adsorption Bed Packed with Activated Carbon Fiber)

  • Toluene adsorption characteristics in the adsorption bed packed with activated carbon fiber (ACF) were studied. Experimental apparatus is composed of VOC generation equipment, adsorption bed, and analytical instrument. Breakthrough characteristics were investigated with length of the adsorption bed which consisted of 3 or 5 sheets of the ACF and flow rate when toluene concentration are 400 ppm and 800 ppm respectively. When mass transfer zone (MTZ) comes out of the adsorption bed, toluene concentration is increased sharply and reached plateau region by saturation. Experimental results are compared with semi-empirical gas adsorption model proposed by Yoon and Nelson. In order to investigate the movement of the MTZ with adsorption time in the adsorption bed packed with ACFs, weight increment of each ACF was measured with the location of ACF at each run. When the weight increment of ACF by toluene adsorption which located at the exit of the bed reaches about 20%, toluene started to be detected.

산화철 피복사에 의한 구리이온제거 (Removal of Copper Ion with Iron-Oxide-Coated Sand)

  • 산화제 제조시 초기 과정에서 $Fe_3O_4$ 가 피복되었고 2 단계에서는 $Fe_3O_4$ 보다 첨착능이 우수한 것으로 알려져 있는 $Fe_3O_4$가 생성되었다. 산화제 폐염삼 30g/l에 5Cu mg/l를 첨가하여 20분간 반응하였을 경우 구리이온 제거효율은 74.8%이었다. 연속실험에서 최종 배출수중의 구리농도가 1mg/l이하를 파괴점으로 보았을 때 파괴점 도달시간은 23시간이었고 흡착용량은 0.87$\cdot$Cu/g$\cdot$IOCS이었다.

Hydraulic Property and Solute Breakthrough from Salt Accumulated Soils under Various Head Pressures

  • Salt accumulated soil should be reclaimed to lower salt level for crop production. This study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of water flow and transport of mono and divalent solutes on salt accumulated soils with different head pressures. Saturated hydraulic conductivity was measured by constant and falling head methods with maintaining different head pressures. Saturated hydraulic conductivity was influenced by bulk density and organic matter contents in soils, but it had different elusion patterns between saline and sodic soil. While the quantity of water necessary for reclamation could be varies with soil type, it was considered that the supply of one pore volume of water was affordable and economic. Additional head pressure significantly increased the volume of leachate at a given time and it was more effective at low organic matter soils. The results indicate that additional head pressure would be one of the best irrigation practices on desalination method for salt accumulated soils.

입상활성탄 재질별 방사성 핵종(I-131) 흡착 특성 평가 (Evaluation of Adsorption Characteristics of Radioactive Iodine (I-131) for Various Materials of Granular Activated Carbon (GAC))

  • This research was performed by means of several different virgin granular activated carbons (GAC) made of each coal, coconut and wood, and the GACs were investigated for an adsorption performance of iodine-131 in a continuous adsorption column. Breakthrough behavior was investigated that the breakthrough points of the virgin two coals-, coconut- and wood-based GACs were observed as bed volume (BV) 7080, BV 5640, BV 5064 and BV 3192, respectively. The experimental results of adsorption capacity (X/M) for iodine-127 showed that two coal- based GACs were highest (208.6 and $139.1{\mu}g/g$), the coconut-based GAC was intermediate ($86.5{\mu}g/g$) and the wood-based GAC was lowest ($54.5{\mu}g/g$). The X/M of the coal-based GACs was 2~4 times higher than the X/M of the coconut-based and wood-based GACs.

Adsorption and Thermal Regeneration of Toluene and Benzene on the Fixed Bed Packed with Activated Carbon and Activated Carbon Fiber

  • The characteristics of adsorption and desorption of benzene and toluene were investigated at a fixed bed packed with the activated carbon and activated carbon fiber. Through breakthrough experiments under various feed concentration conditions, it was found that the slope of mass transfer zone and the tailing in the breakthrough curves were different from the feed conditions due to different heats of adsorption. In hot nitrogen desorption, the regeneration time and mass transfer zone of the toluene desorption curve were longer than those of the benzene desorption curve because of the difference in adsorption affinity. With an increase in the regeneration temperature, the height of roll-up and the sharpness of desorption curves increased but the regeneration times decreased. The adsorption capacities of the activated carbon and activated carbon fiber after three-time thermal regenerations decreased about 25% and 37% for benzene and 18% and 25% for toluene, respectively. To investigate the effect of the regeneration temperature on the energetic efficiency, the characteristic desorption temperatures of toluene and benzene were investigated by calculating purge gas consumption and temperature.

글로우방전을 이용한 폴리에스테르 직물의 투습방수성 개질 (Water Repellent Finish of Polyester Fabric Using Glow Discharge Treatment)

  • We have treated polyester fabric with $CF_4,\;C_2F_6,\;SF_6\;and\;C_3F_6$ glow discharge plasmas to develop functional fabrics which preserve moisture transportation and water proofing nature. Modified properties were evaluated by water vapor permeation rate and breakthrough water pressure. The change of surface morphology was observed by SEM. Fiber interstice of the plasma treated fabric was calculated as $0.32{\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and this value was sufficiently ideal as water repellent material. The moisture transportation of ${CF_4}-treated$ fabric was good as much as untreated fabric, and those of $C_2$F(sub)6-treated, SF(sub)6-treated fabrics were reduced by 1~3%, and that of ${C_3F_6}-treated$ fabric was reduced by 15%. The best treatment condition were 0.06 torr 120 seconds in $CF_4$, 0.05 torr 30 seconds in $SF_6$, 0.08~0.15 torr 90 seconds in $SF_6$ and 0.1 torr 45 seconds in $C_3F_6$ respectively. The grade of moisture transportation effect was $CF_4>C_2F_6>SF_6>>C_3F_6$, and water proofing effect was $C_2F_6{\approx}CF_4>C_3F_6>SF_6$. It was observed by SEM that the thin film was formed on the surface of the treated substrate by the fluorocarbon plasma treatment.
