This paper presents the sliding mode control methods for anti-lock brake system (ABS) with the friction force observer. Using a simplified quarter car model, the sliding mode controller for ABS is designed to track the desired wheel slip ratio. Here, new method to find the desired wheel slip ratio which produces the maximum friction force between road and tire is suggested. The desired wheel slip ratio is varying according road and tire conditions to produce maximum friction force. In order to find optimum desired wheel slip ratio, the sliding mode observer for friction force is used. The proposed sliding mode controller with observer is evaluated in simulation, and the control design is shown to have high performance on roads with constant and varying adhesion coefficients.
Recently, several wheel for freight car in running had experienced the wheel failure due to fatigue crack, overheat braking and other factors. Severe heating of the wheel during tread braking was believed to be a contributing factor of derailment. It is necessary to evaluate the residual stress in wheel tread. In the present paper, the residual stress of wheel using x-ray diffraction system is investigated. the result shows that the residual stress of wheel is depend on the running distance and wear rate of wheel.

Organic brake materials are installed in the braking system of korean model combat vehicles. Since the binder resin is decomposed in high temperature region, it may possible to drop the friction force which makes the vehicle stop within the desired distance. This study analyses the braking performance of the brake materials in high temperature region by using the pin-on-disk type friction tester. It is observed radical drop of friction coefficients and rapid increase of wear amounts from the transition temperature. It is due to the formation of oxide layer on the friction surface.
Urban transit vehicle that uses electrical energy, is faster, safer and energy-efficient public transit than other means. As a Research method, the Matlab/Simulink are used to modeling a regenerative brake-capable train, and actual parameters such as powering and braking characteristics, all kinds of resistance, passenger load, velocity, gradient, radius of curve etc and powering and breaking commands per time or distance are inputted to train's dynamic equation, then a simulation program is made and used to yield train driving pattern and driving time and the amount of driving energy used thereby at auto and manual operation and at all sector.

Anti-lock brake system(ABS) are designed to prevent wheel lock on all wheels of the vehicle by sensing wheel angular speed, processing the speed sensor signals in suitable digital electronic control circuits and comanding electrohydraulic actuators to control brake pressure. This study considers a control of ABS using wheel circumferential acceleration thresholds which avoids dangerous wheel locking due to excessive brake pressure during the vehicle braking and discusses the 3-channels, 3-sensors ABS system that employs "independent control" technique for the front wheels and "select low" technique for the rear wheels. The validities of the ABS such as vehicle stability, steerability and stopping distance during braking are assured through the vehicle tests on uniform asphalt straight roads.

Usually, large-sized buses and trucks have a very high load. In addition, frequent braking during downhill or long-distance driving, causes the conventional method using the brake friction to have a problem in safety because of brake fade and brake burst phenomenon. Auxiliary brakes dividing the braking load is essential. Hence, environment-friendly auxiliary brakes, such as contactless brake rather than the engine auxiliary brake system are needed. A study aimed at improving the energy efficiency by recharging electric energy with changing mechanical to electrical energy that occurs when braking is actively in progress. In this paper, the voltage control method is utilized to recover the electric energy generated in the electromagnetic retarder instead of the eddy current. To regenerate the braking energy into the electrical energy, the resonant L-C circuit is configured in the retarder. The voltage generated in the retarder is simply modeled as a transformer. However, retarder voltage control in this paper is simulated by modeling the induction generator because this induction generator modeling is more practical than transformer modeling. The changes in the voltage of the resonance circuit, which depends on the switch pulse duration of the control device, were analyzed. A PI controller algorithm to control this voltage is proposed. The feasibility of modeling retarder and voltage controller are shown by using MATLAB Simulink in this paper.

The tires, suspension type, and steering system can all cause pulling during braking. Among these, a drag link steering system and leaf-type suspension system are significant causes of vehicle pulling. In this study, the pulling problem is analyzed using the vehicle analysis program "ADAMS/CAR." The drag link and leaf spring behavior is analyzed to find the key reason for pulling. After this, the optimization program "Visual DOC" is used with "ADAMS/CAR" to find a steering link connection point to reduce pulling. After conducting this simulation, K&C (kinematic & compliance) test simulation with a modified connection point is conducted to determine whether the vehicle performance improves. Through a full braking simulation, it is verified that the pulling distance is reduced at braking.
Currently, sharp increase of car is on the rise as a serious social problem due to loss of lives from car accident and environmental pollution. There is a study on ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) to seek coping measures. As for the commercialization of ITS, we aim for occupancy of world market through ASV (Advanced Safety Vehicle) related system development and international standardization. However, the domestic environment is very insufficient. Core factor technologies of ITS are Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist System, Forward Collision Warning System, AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) system etc. These technologies are applied to cars to support driving of a driver. AEB system is stop the car automatically based on the result decided by the relative speed and distance with obstacle detected through sensor attached on car rather than depending on the driver. The purpose of AEB system is to measure the distance and speed of car and to prevent accident. Thus, AEB will be a system useful for prevention of accident by decreasing car accident along with the development of automobile technology. This study suggests a scenario to suggest a test evaluation method that accords with domestic environment and active response of international standard regarding the test evaluation method of AEB. Also, by setting the goal with function for distance, it suggests theoretic model according to the result. And the study aims to verify the theoretic evaluation standard per proposed scenario using car which is installed with AEB device through field car driving test on test road. It will be useful to utilize the suggested scenario and theoretical model when conducting AEB test evaluation.
An Anti-lock Brake System ABS is developed to increase the stability of vehicle and to reduce the stopping distance when braking manoeuvres by measuring the wheel and vehicle speed. An ABS mathematical model which describes the dynamics of vehicle and calculate the stopping distance, is explained in this paper. To proceed this study, a mathematical model is produced with simulink software package. Although the model considered here is relatively simple, it retains the essential dynamics of the system. The results are evaluated at the various driving or road conditions. The results from mathematical model show that ABS reduces the stopping distance at the various road conditions. This mathematical model could be ...

Among the driving information recorded in the event data recorder (EDR), the speed information of the vehicle before the traffic accident is a very important factor that determines the punishment of the driver of the accident vehicle, the identification of the offender and the victim, and the possibility of avoiding the accident. Also, by analyzing the EDR data, the deceleration of the accident vehicle can be analyzed. In this study, the results of the braking test of the previous study and the analysis of the EDR data of the traffic accident vehicle were compared to suggest an appropriate deceleration value applicable to the calculation of the stopping distance. As a result of the braking test of the vehicle equipped with ABS of the previous study, the average deceleration of the vehicle was 0.79g ~ 0.94g. In addition, the deceleration value was calculated from 0.92g to 0.94g in the recent automobile safety evaluation braking test conducted by the Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute. In addition, the deceleration value of 0.55g ~ 0.71g was calculated through the analysis of EDR data performed in this study, and the value was smaller than the deceleration value measured in the braking experiment of the previous study.
