The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of dentin bonding agents on the bond strength of composite resin restorations in case of applying the dentin bonding agents to acid etched enamel surfaces. Freshly extracted 364 bovine anterior teeth were selected as a adherents. 320 enamel specimens were divided into two groups(unetched group (1) and etched group (2) for testing the shear bond strength, 40 specimens were used for the hardness testing, and 4 specimens of rest were to observe the resin-tag formation into etched enamel surfaces. All surfaces of enamel specimens were polished with 320~1500 SiC paper under continuous running water. In Group (1), 100 enamel specimens were polished and unetched. 220 polished enamel specimens in Group (2) were etched with 37 % phosphoric acid solution for 60 seconds, washed with water for 20 seconds, and dried with a light air pressure for 60 seconds. Three kinds of dentin bonding agents(Gluma, Prisma, Scotchbond 2) were evaluated the effect on the bond strength to conditioned enamel surfaces. Shear bond strengths were measured on the three cases such as a coating of primer only, a coating of sealer only, and a sequential coating of primer and sealer to acid etched enamel surfaces were compared with the bond strengths measured by the coating of enamel bonding agent followed by the bonding of composite resin (Photo clearfil bright, Kuraray, Japan) to unetched and acid etched enamel surfaces. In addition, the hardness tested on the adhesive fractured surface between composite resin enamel as a mean of evaluation of a factor whether the mechanical bond strengths were affected and the penetration of dentin bonding agents into etched enamel surfaces was also observed. Bond strengths were measured using the method of shear bond strength by a universal testing machine (Instron-4467, USA), statistical test were applied to the results using a one way analysis variance(ANOVA), and hardness was measured by the Vicker's Hardness Tester(MHT-i, Matsuzawa, Japan) and the penetration of the resins were observed by the SEM (Hitachi, S-2300, Japan). The following conclusions were drawn; 1. Enamel bonding agent showed to affect the improvement of bond strength of composite resin to enamel surface both unetched and etched. 2. Dentin bonding agents could be resulted in increase of bond strength to unetched enamel surface, but there were no statistical significances. 3. Bond strengths to etched enamel surface were significantly decreased with a coating of dentin primer only. 4. Coating of sealer only and coating of primer and sealer noticed the similar bond strengths of composite resin to etched enamel using the enamel bonding agents. 5. The applying method proved to be more effective than the kinds of dentin bonding agents on the bond strength of composite resin to etched enamel than the kind of dentin. 6. Vicker's hardness numbers of dentin bonding agents were lower than that of composite resin, but the degree of penetration of dentin bonding agents into etched enamel surfaces was excellent.
Various biological approaches to the promotion of periodontal regeneration have been used. These can be divided into the use of growth and differentiation factors, application of extracellular matrix proteins and attachment factors and use of mediators of bone metabolism. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of enamel matrix protein and platelet-rich plasma on the treatment of intrabony defect, with bovine-derived bone powder in humans by digital subtraction radiography. 12 teeth(experimental I group) were treated with enamel matrix protein combined with bovine-derived bone powder and 12 teeth(experimental II group) were treated with platelet-rich plasma combined with bovine-derived bone powder. The change of bone density was assessed by digital subtraction radiography in this study. The change of mineral content was assessed in the method that two radiography were put into computer program to be overlapped and the previous image was subtracted by the later one. Both groups were statistically analyzed by Wilcoxon signed Ranks Test and Mann-whitney Test using SPSS program for windows(5% significance level). The results were as follows: 1. The radiolucency in 3 months after surgery was significantly increased than 1 month after surgery in both groups(experimental I and II groups)(p<0.05). 2. The radiopacity in 6 months after surgery was significantly increased than 3 months after surgery in both groups(experimental I and II groups) (p<0.05). 3. In experimental I group, there was no significant difference between 1 month and 6 months after surgery. 4. In experimental II group. the radiopacity in 6 months after surgery was significantly increased than 1 month after surgery(p<0.05). 5. There was no significant difference between experimental I and II group at 1 month and 3 months after surgery, but the radiopacity in experimental II group was significantly increased at 6 months after surgery(p<0.05). In conclusion, platelet-rich plasma can enhance bone density than enamel matrix protein until 6 months after surgery.
Background: This study aimed to investigate the effect of selecting commercially available blending teas and applying them to bovine teeth on color change over time. Methods: After selecting healthy bovine teeth, using a cutting-disc, 105 specimens with a dimension of 5×5×3 mm were prepared, and 15 specimens were distributed to each group. Black tea was used as a positive control, water was used as a negative control, and blended tea of five types was used as an experimental group. First, pH and buffering capacity were measured with a pH meter, and tooth color was determined using a spectrophotometer before immersion in the blending tea solution and 1, 5, 7, 14, and 21 days after immersion. Thereafter, the shape change of the enamel surface was observed using a scanning electron microscope, and SPSS ver.26 was used to analyze the color change. Results: The average pH of the five blending teas in the experimental group was 3.78, and the pH of group 3 (strawberry rhubarb) was the lowest at 3.22. The pH levels of black tea and water were 5.19 and 7.30, respectively. The buffering capacity was the highest in group 3 at both pH levels of 5.5 and 7.0. The L*a*b* color change according to immersion time was the largest in group 4 (rooibos yellow flower), and the amount of color change was large in black tea and group 4. As a result of observing the enamel surface of bovine teeth, changes in the surface shape were noted in all groups immersed in the experimental solution for 21 days, except for water. Conclusion: There was a significant difference between the experimental groups in terms of color change according to the immersion time, and color and enamel surface changes were observed in black tea and all experimental groups, except for water.
The purposes of this study were to examine the effect of different fluoridated bleaching solution on the changes in physical and chemical characteristics of tooth. Forty-eight bovine incisors were divided into four groups to receive bleaching treatments, over a 14days period, as follows: no treatment; 10% carbamide peroxide (CP) bleaching; 10% CP containing 0.05% fluoride; and 10% CP containing 0.1% fluoride. All the specimens were highly polished and discolored with commercial COCK.Color and enamel changes were determined with colorimeter, microhardness tester, scanning electron microscope, atomic force microscopy. All the collected data were analyzed with one-way ANOVA. After the bleaching, bleached groups showed the color change(E*). Microhardness of 10% CP group decreased after tooth bleaching. But microhardness of containing fluoride bleached groups increased after tooth bleaching. Enamel surface of 10% CP bleached group showed any apparent morphology and roughness changes compared to the enamel which was stored in distilled water only. These results demonstrated that Fluoridated 10% Carbamide Peroxide have appreciable bleaching effect on bovine teeth and were not adversely affects enamel. Supporting influence of fluoride-containing bleaching solution on remineralization could be observed and further research must be carried out in various active environments to confirm these results clinically.
Previous study had shown the diversities in the propriety for optimal bond strength on the concentration of the etchant. The aim of present study in vitro was to evaluate and compare the shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets to enamel and to measure the depth of etch on the phosphoric acid concentrations. A hundred and seventy six extracted bovine lower centrals were ground to yield flat surfaces and etched by the concentration $0%,\;5%,\;10%,\;20%,\;30%,\;40%,\;50%,\;60%,\;70%,\;80%\;and\;85\%$ of phosphoric acid respectively during 60 seconds. The shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets, the depth of etch and surface roughness of the enamel were measured, and scanning electron microscopic observations on the etched enamel surfaces were carried out. The data obtained from the very experiments were processed and statistically analyzed and evaluated. The gradual increase in the depth of etch to enamel as the accretion of the concentration of the phosphoric acid upto $40-50\%$ and decline henceforth were manifested. The surface roughness showed no correlation with the depth of etch, yet moderate correlation with the shear bond strength of brackets. Scanning electron microscopic investigation revealed that morphological patterns of the etched enamel surfaces for $5\%\;to\;40\%$ of concentrations were even and homogenous, and those for $50\%$ as well as $60\%$ exhibited the overetched and unhomogenous. The shear bond strengths kom $10\%\;to\;60\%$ of concentration showed no statistically significant differences. It was suggested that the shear bond strengths at $5\%\;and\;70\%$ were sufficient to tolerate the force levels of the ordinary orthodontic treatment notwithstanding to be significantly lower than those from $10\%\;to\;60\%$ phosphoric acid solution.
Recent reports indicate that shorter etching times than 60 seconds can be adopted without affecting the bond strength and clinical disadvantages. The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the shear bone strength and to measure depth of etch at different etching time length. One hundred and eight extracted bovine lower central incisors were embedded each in a tooth cup with cold-cure acrylic resin. The facial surfaces of the teeth were ground wet with 600-, 800-, 1000-, and 1200-grit Sic papers, and finally polished with a water slurry of extrafine silicon carbide powder, washed with tap water, and dried with hot air. Nine groups of nine prepared teeth were etched with a commercial($38\%$ phosphoric acid solution) for 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 60, 90, and 120 seconds, respectively, rinsed with tap water, and dried with hot air. One conditioned teeth from every group was selected randomly for the scanning electron microscopic examination, and the remaining eight teeth of the groups were used for measuring the push shear bond strength after bonding brackets and immensing them in the $36.5^{\circ}C$ water for 24 hours. Another nine groups of three teeth were used for measuring the depth of etch and surface roughness with a surface profilometer. after pieces of adhesive tape of 3mm inner diameter positioned on the ground enamel surfaces, and etched with the above mentioned. The data obtained form the above expeiments were analysed statistically with one way ANOVA and Dunkan's multiple range test with the $95\%$ confidence level. The results and conclusion of the study were as follows; 1. The results of shear bond strength for the given experimental etching times were not statistically different, but showed the tendency of decreasing shear bone strength after over 60 seconds etching times. 2. On the scanning election microscopic examination, it was observed that the morphological patterns of etched enamel surface for 5 to 20 seconds were similar and consitent, and those for 30 to 120 seconds showed increasing over-etched patterns depending on the length of etching times. 3. The depth of etch was increased almost proportionally by the length of etching times, but it was not associated with the shear bond strength. 4. The surface roughness increased depending on the length of etching times, but it was not associated with the shear bond strength. 5. This experiment indicated that proper etching time with $38\%$ phosphoric acid solution is in the range of 5 to 30 seconds.

The aim of this study is to compare the differences of the demineralization resistance of resin infiltration and 1.23% acidulated phosphate fluoride in bovine teeth with artificial caries. We applied 1.23% Acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF) gel and $Icon^{(R)}$ caries infiltrant on the artificial bovine enamel carious lesion and then demineralized all samples. The depth of demineralization was measured by using Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope (CLSM) and observed the roughness and irregularity of the enamel was observed by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). In this experiment with demineralization resistance on smooth artificial carious lesion, less depth of demineralization, roughness, and irregularity of enamel was observed in APF gel and $Icon^{(R)}$ group than in the control group. There was no significant difference between the depth of demineralization of 1.23% APF gel and $Icon^{(R)}$ caries infiltrant group. However, resin infiltration is beneficial as less roughness and irregularity was observed on the enamel surface than when 1.23% APF gel is applied.
This study was designed to determine the most effective concentration of fluoride and energy density of laser irradiation for the anticarious effect. For this study surface hardness in enamel was measured before and after irradiation with pulsed Nd;YAG laser and the topical application of fluoride. Of the permanent mandibular anterior hovine teeth, healthy, carious free ones were used. Three hundred specimens were made. Specimens within 25~45 Vickers hardness numbers were assigned to 20 control and experimental stoops ; each containing 15 specimens. After forming artificial carious lesions, 10 J/$\textrm{cm}^2$, 20 J/$\textrm{cm}^2$, and 30 J/$\textrm{cm}^2$ energies were irradiated on the enamel surface of each experimental group. Also NaF, NH4F, Elmex gel(amine fluoride) and APF gel fluoride compounds were applied topically. Next, all the specimens were placed into the pH circulatory procedures for eight days. Vickers hardness numbers were measured using a microhardness tester. Surface changes of the enamel were observed using an scanning electron microscope. The comparative ana1ysis yielded the following results : 1. The reduction of surface hardness of the enamel surface was less in all groups with fluoride application than in the group without fluoride application. 2. The APF gel croup with 10 J/$\textrm{cm}^2$ irradiation showed the lowest reduction of surface hardness. 3. The reduction of surface hardness of the enamel surface in the group of laser irradiation without fluoride application not showed any significant difference according to the energy density of the laser. 4. Under the scanning electron microscope, in enamel irradiated with 10J/$\textrm{cm}^2$ showed appearance similar to acid etching surface. In enamel irradiated with 20 J/$\textrm{cm}^2$, line enamel crack was detected. In enamel irradiated with 30j/$\textrm{cm}^2$, severe enamel crack and fusion of enamel were detected. These results suggest that one could obtain the best anticariogenic effects without damage to teeth in the group of application of APF gel after laser irradiation with 10 J/$\textrm{cm}^2$.

Regenerative therapy in an interproximal intrabony defect is a challenge due to unaesthetic appearance after surgery. In this article, we introduce a case series of additional use of autogenous periosteal barrier membrane combined with bovine bone mineral and enamel matrix derivative (EMD) in interproximal periodontal intrabony defects to overcome an aforementioned shortcoming. During the periodontal regenerative surgery, autogenous periosteal membrane was additionally adopted besides xenograft material and EMD. Clinical and radiographic examinations were performed before surgery and 6 months after surgical treatment. All clinical parameters were improved and the intrabony defects were resolved on the radiography 6 months after surgery. Moreover, soft tissue esthetics such as the contour of interdental papilla was better than that of conventional regenerative therapy. Periodontal regenerative therapy using several graft materials and bioactive materials was effective in the treatment of periodontal intrabony defect. Moreover, using of autogenous periosteal barrier membrane combined with xenograft and EMD has additional effect for the treatment of an interproximal intrabony defect in terms of augmentation of interdental soft tissue volume.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to compare HEMA and TEGDMA as diluents for the composite resin. Material and methods : Eight kinds of experimental light curable composite resins were prepared and used. Concentrations of monomer and filler were same for all experimental composites, except, the diluent's ratios to the monomer. The ratio of diluents to Bis-GMA were 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30%, and two kinds of diluents were used, so total experimental groups were eight including one control group of 25% TEGDMA. Results : Depth of cure, flexural strength, shear bond strength to bovine enamel, shear bond strength to bovine dentin, water absorption and solubility of composites in water were measured. Sample size for each groups were 10. Arithmetic means were used as each groups representative values, and regression test for two diluents and low concentrations, Duncan's multiple range test, and Two-way ANOVA test were done for kinds of diluents and its concentrations at level of 0.05. Conclusion : Following results were obtained ; 1. There were not significant differences in effects of HEMA and TEGDMA to depth of cure, flexural strength of composites and shear bond strength to bovine enamel (p>0.05). 2. Increase of the concentrations of the diluents made the depth of cure (p<0.001) and flexural strength (p<0.05) a little higher. 3. Shear bond strength to dentin was higher on HEMA containing composites than TEGDMA containing composites (p<0.001). 4. Water absorption was higher on HEMA containing composites than TEGDMA containing composites (p<0.01).
