In this paper, frequency analysis of curved functionally graded (FG) nanobeam by consideration of deepness effect has been studied. Differential transform method (DTM) has been used to obtain frequency responses. The nonlocal theory of Eringen has been applied to consider nanoscales. Material properties are supposed to vary in radial direction according to power-law distribution. Differential equations and related boundary conditions have been derived using Hamilton's principle. Finally, by consideration of nonlocal theory, the governing equations have been derived. Natural frequencies have been obtained using semi analytical method (DTM) for different boundary conditions. In order to study the effect of deepness, the deepness term is considered in strain field. The effects of the gradient index, radius of curvature, the aspect ratio, the nonlocal parameter and interaction of aforementioned parameters on frequency value for different boundary conditions such as clamped-clamped (C-C), clamped-hinged (C-H), and clamped-free (C-F) have been investigated. In addition, the obtained results are compared with the results in previous literature in order to validate present study, a good agreement was observed in the present results.

In dynamic centrifuge tests, equivalent shear beam (ESB) container minimizes the boundary effect between the soil model and the wall of the container so as to effectively simulate the boundary conditions of real field state. The ESB container at KAIST was evaluated to be performing properly by Lee et al. (2013). However, it is necessary to re-evaluate the performance of ESB container since the ESB container may have deteriorated over time. Thus, the performance of eight-year-old ESB container was re-evaluated through dynamic centrifuge tests. Firstly, the natural period of the empty ESB container was compared with the results of Lee et al. (2013). Then the boundary effect of sand-filled ESB container was evaluated. Results show that the dynamic behavior of the sand-filled ESB container was similar to that of the ground, despite a decrease in the natural period of the empty ESB container over time. In addition, the dynamic response of the ground built in the ESB container and the same ground simulated through numerical analysis with free-field boundary conditions were similar. Therefore, it was found that the boundary effect of the ESB container due to the decrease in the natural period was not significant.
To achieve the noise reduction effect in boundary image matching, we use the moving average transform of time-series matching. Our motivation is based on an intuition that using the moving average transform we may exploit the noise reduction effect in boundary image matching as in time-series matching. To confirm this simple intuition, we first propose $\kappa$-order image matching, which applies the moving average transform to boundary image matching. A boundary image can be represented as a sequence in the time-series domain, and our $\kappa$-order image matching identifies similar images in this time-series domain by comparing the $\kappa$-moving average transformed sequences. Next, we propose an index-based matching method that efficiently performs $\kappa$-order image matching on a large volume of image databases, and formally prove the correctness of the index-based method. Moreover, we formally analyze the relationship between an order $\kappa$ and its matching result, and present a systematic way of controlling the noise reduction effect by changing the order $\kappa$. Experimental results show that our $\kappa$-order image matching exploits the noise reduction effect, and our index-based matching method outperforms the sequential scan by one or two orders of magnitude.
Purpose - The purpose of this study is to reveal the effect of a High Performance Work System(HWPS) on research performance. In addition, this study examines the mediation effect of Innovation Commitment(IC) and the moderated mediation effect of Perceived Organizational Support(POS), and seeks to reveal the antecedents and boundary variables that affect research performance. Design/methodology/approach - The level of analysis is at the individual level. A survey was collected from researchers at government-funded research institutes in the Daejeon and Sejong areas. 265 questionnaires were used in the final statistical analysis. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed using the AMOS 21. Correlation analysis, regression analysis, and bootstrapping by Process Macro were performed using the SPSS 19. Findings - As a result of the study, HWPS has a positive effect on IC, and IC has a positive effect on research performance. Through this results, it was found that IC mediates the relationship between the HPWS and research performance. In addition, POS positively moderated the mediating effect of HPWS on research performance through IC. Research implications or Originality - First, IC can be increased through a HPWS. Second, the effect of the HWPS on individual research performance through IC provides implications that the HWPS can be effectively applied not only to general companies but also to research organizations. Third, the boundary effect of POS was revealed. Fourth, research performance was measured through objective quantitative indicators rather than subjective.
The transition of serrated grain boundary and its effect on liquation behavior in the simulated weld heat-affected zone (HAZ) have been investigated in a wrought Ni-based superalloy Alloy 263. Recently, the present authors have found that grain boundary serration occurs in the absence of adjacent coarse ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ particles or $M_{23}C_6$ carbides when a specimen is direct-aged with a combination of slow cooling from solution treatment temperature to aging temperature. The present study was initiated to determine the interdependence of the serration and HAZ property with a consideration of this serration as a potential for the use of a hot-cracking resistant microstructure. A crystallographic study indicated that the serration led to a change in grain boundary character as special boundary with a lower interfacial energy as those terminated by low-index {111} boundary planes. It was found that the serrated grain boundaries are highly resistant to boron enrichment, and suppress effectively grain coarsening in HAZ. Furthermore, the serrated grain boundaries showed a higher resistance to susceptibility of liquation cracking. These results was discussed in terms of a significant decrease in interfacial energy of grain boundary by the serration.

In this paper, static and oscillatory instability of nanopipes conveying fluid and modelled as a thin-walled beam is investigated. Effects of boundary conditions and non-classical transverse shear and rotary inertia are incorporated in this study. The governing equations and the three different boundary conditions are derived through Hamilton's principle. Numerical analysis is performed by using extend Galerkin method which enables us to obtain more exact solutions compared with conventional Galerkin method. Variations of critical flow velocity for different boundary conditions of carbon nanopipes are investigated and pertinent conclusion is outlined.

Behavior of underground structural systems is usually complicated because of various unknown parameters. In order to construct those structural systems safely and economically, exact identification of the system parameters and accurate analysis of the system behaviors are essentially required. In this study, a forward analysis program, which is able to eliminate numerical errors due to far field boundary effect, is developed by coupling finite and boundary elements. In this coupled analysis, boundary elements are used in the semi-infinite domain where stress variation is small, and finite elements in the stress concentration region where material nonlinearity should be considered. Then, a back analysis program which can identify the system parameters is developed using the direct method to be combined with the forward analysis program. The elastic modulus and initial stress, which are most important in the description of the behavior of underground structures, are taken as the system parameters. A simple example is examined 0 show that the method can be used effectively.
In this study, vibration analysis of fluid conveying microbeams under non-ideal boundary conditions (BCs) is performed. The objective of the present paper is to describe the effects of non-ideal BCs on linear vibrations of fluid conveying microbeams. Non-ideal BCs are modeled as a linear combination of ideal clamped and ideal simply supported boundary conditions by using the weighting factor (k). Non-ideal clamped and non-ideal simply supported beams are both considered to show the effects of BCs. Equations of motion of the beam under the effect of moving fluid are obtained by using Hamilton principle. Method of multiple scales which is one of the perturbation techniques is applied to the governing linear equation of motion. Approximate solutions of the linear equation are obtained and the effects of system parameters and non-ideal BCs on natural frequencies are presented. Results indicate that, natural frequencies of fluid conveying microbeam changed significantly by varying the weighting factor k. This change is more remarkable for clamped microbeams rather than simply supported ones.

The current study analyzes Langmuir slip boundary condition theoretically and it is tested in practical numerical analysis for separation-associated flow. Slip phenomenon at the channel wall is properly implemented by various numerical slip boundary conditions including Langmuir slip model. Compressible backward-facing step flow is compared to other analysis results with the purpose of diatomic gas Langmuir slip model validation. The numerical solutions of pressure and velocity distributions where separation occurs are in good agreement with other numerical results. Numerical analysis is conducted for Reynolds number from 10 to 60 for a prediction of separation at T-shaped micro manifold. Reattachment length of flows shows nonlinear distribution at the wall of side branch. The Langmuir slip model predicts fairly the physics in terms of slip effect and separation.

This paper presents a new method with time-varying boundary layer and input gain, variated by Fuzzy Logic Control(FLC) by means of the system state in Sliding Mode Control (SMC). In addition to the time-varying boundary layer, the time-varying range of the fuzzy membership function has an effect on not only chattering reduction but also fast response characteristics. On the basis of SMC with time-varying boundary and FLC with time-varying input and output range, a computer simulation for inverted pendulum results in elimination of the chattering phenomenon and fast response.
