Experimental results are presented, which describe the effect of blowing ratio on film cooling from two rows of holes with opposite orientation angles. The inclination angle is fixed at 35°, and the orientation angles are set to be 45°for the downstream row, and -45°for the upstream row. The studied blowing ratios are 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0. The boundary layer temperature distributions are measured using thermocouple at two downstream locations. Detailed adiabatic film cooling effectiveness and heat transfer coefficient distributions are measured with TLC(Thermochromic Liquid Crystal). The adiabatic film cooling effectiveness and heat transfer coefficient distributions are discussed in connection with the injectant behaviors inferred from the boundary layer temperature distributions. Film cooling performance, represented by heat flux is evaluated from the adiabatic film cooling effectiveness and heat transfer coefficient data. The results show that the investigated geometry provides improved film cooling performance at the high blowing ratios of 1.0 and 2.0.
Buildings in the city acts as a cause of distorted wind direction, wind speed, causing the stagnation of the air flow. In the recent trend of climate change can not but consider the temperature rise of the urbanization. This study was aimed to analyze the thermal comfort of planetary boundary layer in different artificial constructions areas which has a direct impact on urban climate, and estimating the warming phenomena. Envi-met model was used to consider the urban structure associated with urban growth in order to precisely determine the impact of the building on the city weather condition. The analyzed values of thermal comfort index were temperature, wind speed, horizontal and vertical turbulent diffusivity. In particular, analysis of the PPD(Predicted Percentage of Dissatisfied) represents the human thermal comfort. In this study, by adjusting the arrangement and proportion of the top floor building in the urban it was found that the inflow of the fresh air and cooling can be derived low PPD. Vertical heat flux amount of the city caused by climate change was a factor to form a high potential temperature in the city and the accumulation of cold air does not appear near the surface. Based on this, to make the city effectively respond to climate change may require a long-term restructuring of urban spatial structure and density management.

Missile operating at supersonic conditions experiences considerable high temperature environments that is caused by aerodynamic heating as a result of the temperature gradient through boundary layer that surrounds it. This is one of important problems to the designer due to temperature limitation of structural materials. Because prediction of aerodynamic heating on missile needs unsteady calculation according to a flight trajectory, approximate method approach is efficient at design stage. In this paper, improved aerodynamic heating analysis scheme is introduced, which calculates heat flow and temperature by simple pressure field prediction on a missile body and fin. The prediction results are compared with measured data and MINIVER codes results.

The objective of this study is theoretically to suggest the effective heat exchanger design method using boundary layer analysis. The boundary layer formation and interruption on rectangular plate and round plate fins are explained and the heat transfer coefficients showed with the variation of the velocity and temperature boundary layer. In addition, the flow pattern on one plate fin surface considered as external flow and flow pattern between fins considered as internal flow. As a result, theoretical method for the boundary layer interruption avoidance is suggested and the heat transfer coefficient of the round plate fin was higher than that of the rectangular plate fin because of the less thermal and velocity boundary layer thickness except the centerline.
The analysis of characteristics of turbulent flow and thermal boundary layer for natural convection caused by fire along vertical wall is performed. The 4m-high vertical copper plate is heated and kept at a uniform surface temperature of $60^{\circ}C$ and the surrounding fluid (air) is kept at $16.5^{\circ}C$. The flow and temperature is solved by large eddy simulation(LES) of FDS code(Ver.6), in which the viscous-sublayer flow is calculated by Werner-Wengle wall function. The whole analyzed domain is assumed as turbulent region to apply wall function even through the laminar flow is transient to the turbulent flow between $10^9$<$Gr_z$<$10^{10}$ in experiments. The various grids from $7{\times}7{\times}128$ to $18{\times}18{\times}128$ are applied to investigate the sensitivity of wall function to $x^+$ value in LES simulation. The mean velocity and temperature profiles in the turbulent boundary layer are compared with experimental data by Tsuji & Nagano and the results from other LES simulation in which the viscous-sublayer flow is directly solved with many grids. The relationship between heat transfer rate($Nu_z$) and $Gr_zPr$ is investigated and calculated heat transfer rates are compared with theoretical equation and experimental data.

This study represents the numerical analysis of natural convection of a microenvironments with a air permeability in the clothing air-layer. The clothing air layer of shoulder and arm was used for numerical analysis model. As a numerical analysis method, we adopted a finite volume method for two-dimensional laminar flow, and analyzed the flow and thermal characteristics of velocity, temperature and concentration in the air layer between body and clothing. As a temperature boundary conditions, we considered that a body skin has a high temperature with $34^{\circ}C$ the environmental temperatures are $5,\;15\;and\;25^{\circ}C$ for various permeability coefficients. The distributions of concentration, temperature and velocity were showed that two large cells were. formed at horizontal and vertical air layer, respectively. As the temperature difference between body skin and environment decrease, the heat transfer was decreased rapidly.

In recent studies, it was reported that there existed the temperature discontinuity at a liquid-vapor interface in an equilibrium state. However, from the viewpoint of the classical thermodynamics, it is highly questionable result although considering that the experiments related with a boundary layer is very difficult due to the extremely thin thickness of it. To clarify whether the temperature discontinuity over a liquid-vapor interface really exists, the computer simulations were performed. From the simulation results, it could be concluded that the misconception in a temperature calculation might result in non-uniform temperature distributions over an interface under an equilibrium state.

The setting and hardening of concrete is accompanied with nonlinear temperature distribution caused by development of hydration heat of cement. In order to predict the exact temperature history in concrete structures it is required to examine thermal properties of concrete. In this study, the coefficient of air convection, which presents thermal transfer between surface of concrete and air, was experimentally investigated with variables such as velocity of wind, boiling and layer effects. Finally, the prediction model for equivalent coefficient of air convection was theoretically proposed. The coefficient of air convection in the proposed model increases with velocity of wind, and its dependance on wind velocity is varied with types of form. For determining the initial coefficient of air convection, boiling effects must be considered. The coefficient of air convection is affected by boundary layer with respect to the distance from the surface.

In this study, stability analysis of boundary layers on airfoils is performed by using parabolized stability equations(PSE). Boundary layer edge conditions are obtained by compressible inviscid flow calculations. Mean velocity and temperature profiles of the laminar boundary layer are obtained by solving compressible boundary layer equations in generalized curvilinear coordinates with fourth order accuracy in the wall normal direction. Laminar mean flow profiles are used as input data for PSE to investigate growth rates of disturbances and stability characteristics. For the cases of boundary layer on NACA0012 and HSNLF(1)-0213 airfoils at Mach number 0.5, growth rates with respect to disturbance frequencies and profiles of disturbance amplitude are investigated. The effect of angle of attack on stability characteristics are examined at both upper and lower surfaces. The neutral stability curves, effect of Mach number and effect of airfoil section shapes are also analyzed.
