  • Argo drifters provide information of the vertical structure in the water column and have a potential for the improvement of understanding phytoplankton primary production and biogeochemical cycles in combination with ocean color satellite data, which can obtain the horizontal distribution of phytoplankton biomass in the surface layer. Our examples show that using Argo drifters with satellite-measured horizontal distribution of phytoplankton biomass at the sea surface allow an improved understanding of the development of the spring bloom. The other possible uses of Argo drifter are discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze informal learning cases including learning work and being skillful of social workers in the workplace. In addition, it is to examine the promotion plan of informal learning to reinforce competences of social workers in the development of human resources and managemental way. This is a qualitative case study that was involved 20 social workers working in social welfare centers in Jeju. Face to face in-depth interviews were used for collected data. Nvivo10, qualitative data analysis program, was used for analyzing data. According to the findings, the most normal informal learning method in their workplace was to get feedback from the boss including adapting the system of a workplace senior, participating in the meetings, reviewing various media and etc. In addition, feedback from the boss and contacting with acquaintances were used the most as the informal learning method in the learning work and being skillful process of social workers and focused on communication with human resources. Therefore, social welfare centers need to create working environments to promote informal activities such as supporting individual learning, informal meetings, mentoring, supervision, interacting with colleagues and etc as well as supporting institutional formal learning including refresher training to reinforce the capabilities for social workers.

  • This study highlights the theme of human error emerging as a critical issue in the railroad industry, conducting exploratory research on the effects of health, cognition, and safety climates on safety behavior and accidents using an empirical method. The statistical results based on questionnaires received from 204 train drivers indicate that psychological fatigue, cognitive failure, and internal locus of control as individual variables and CEO philosophy and behavior of immediate boss as organizational variables have significant relationships with safety behavior, while cognitive failure, CEO philosophy, behavior of immediate boss, and education were found to be significant variables with respect to accidents. Furthermore, unsafe behavior such as mistakes and violations showed negative effects on near misses and responsibility accidents, respectively. Based on these results, effective alternatives and countermeasures needed to mitigate human error were posited.

  • Dome shape design method of filament wound (FW) composite pressure vessel, which can create various dome shape with fixed boss opening, was suggested. And, the performance indices (PV/W) for composite pressure vessel with same boss opening but different dome shape were investigated by finite element analysis (FEA) and hydro-test. The FEA showed good agreement with test results for burst pressure. Generally, as the dome shape of pressure vessel was changed to flat dome, the inner volume is increased and the burst pressure is decreased. In the case of above ${\rho}_o$=0.54, the performance index showed decreased value due to the low burst pressure. However, at ${\rho}_o$=0.35, the dome shape change brings not significant reduction of burst pressure and performance index.

  • This study examined the relation between anger-coping types and hypertension in employed men aged $40\sim60$ who consented to participate during the biannual physical checkup in the department of health management in 1988. The subjects analyzed were five hundred thirteen excluding those having hypertension history and/or current antihypertensive medications. Anger-coping types were constructed from the Harburg's model with two hypothetical anger-provoking situations involving wife and boss. Hypertensives were defined more than 140mmHg systolic blood pressure and/or 90mmHg diastolic blood pressure. Hypertensives were one hundred fifty two(29.6%) and those who suppressed their anger were 61.6% and 62.8% in wife and boss situations respectively. Items of anger, guilt, protest, and suppressed anger in wife situation showed odds ratios of 0.78-0.94 without statistical significance. But four items in boss situation showed odds ratios more than 1, especially anger-in types of anger item had 1.58 times the prevalence of hypertension of anger-out types(95% confidence intervals(CI) $1.06\sim2.35$) and subjects who indicated that suppressed their anger had 1.55 times the prevalence of hypertension of those who expressed their anger(95% CI $1.03\sim2.32$). For anger suppressed vs. expressed types of total suppressed anger index, prevalence of hypertension was 1.31 (95% CI $0.83\sim2.08$). After adjusting for age, body mass index, smoking and drinking, the odds ratios were slightly increased in both situations except guilt items compared with univariate analysis. These results suggest that the relation between Harburg's anger-coping model and hypertension is replicated partially in this subjects.

  • This study was carried out to grasp the job stress and intention to change their jobs of nurses at general hospitals by their socio-demographic, job-related and health-related behavior characteristics and especially to investigate their relationship to the job stress and intention to change their jobs. The subjects were 355 nurses working at three university hospitals located in Daejeon City, and data were collected by a survey using self-administered questionnaires structured from April 1 to May 31, 2012. As a results, the average point of the nurses' intention to change jobs by the causes for job stress was significantly higher in the boss group with low support than in that with high support while it was higher in colleague group with low support than in that with high support. To look into the correlation between the points of intention to change their jobs and the causes for job stress, their intention to change their jobs showed a significant negative correlation to the boss's support and colleagues' support while there was no significant relationship with job demands and job autonomy. As a result of hierarchical multiple regression, age, drinking coffee, department, job satisfaction, the boss's support and colleagues' support were selected as significant related variables affecting the nurses' intention to change their jobs and these variables' descriptive power was 29.4%. Viewed from the above results, it is suggested that the nurses' job stress and intention to change their jobs has a significant relationship with various variables such as socio-demographic, health-related behavior and job-related characteristics. In addition, there were a significant positive correlation between the causes for the job stress cause and intention to change their jobs, and among the causes for the job stress, support by their boss or colleagues turned out to be those affecting their intention to change their jobs. Thus, it is considered that it is necessary to minimize the nurses' job stress and at the same time to seek for specific measures for preventing their turnover.

  • An analytical study was performed to have temperature and thermal stress distribution on a piston with the change of the 2nd land length of a piston and the existence of knocking in a cylinder. The result showed that the temperature on the skirt region was about $4\sim10^{\circ}C$ higher than that on the pin region. However the thermal stress on the skirt region was about 4MPa lower than on the pin region. It may be due to the higher heat release rate on the pin boss than on the skirt. The result regarding the variation of the 2nd land length of the piston showed that the temperature distribution on the piston was getting lower and the thermal stress distribution was getting higher as the 2nd land length of the piston was shorter.

  • We study the three-dimensional genus topology of large-scale structure using the CMASS Data Release 11 sample of the SDSS-III Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS). The CMASS sample yields a genus curve that is characteristic of one produced by Gaussian random-phase initial conditions. The data thus supports the standard model of inflation where random quantum fluctuations in the early universe produced Gaussian random-phase initial conditions. Modest deviations in the observed genus from random phase are as expected from the nonlinear evolution of structure. We construct mock SDSS CMASS surveys along the past light cone from the Horizon Run 3 (HR3) N-body simulations, where gravitationally bound dark matter subhalos are identified as the sites of galaxy formation. We study the genus topology of the HR3 mock surveys with the same geometry and sampling density as the observational sample, and the observed genus topology to be consistent with LCDM as simulated by the HR3 mock samples.
