Crystallization of Borosilicate Glass with the Addition of $ZrO_2$ (지르코니아 첨가된 보로실리케이트 유리의 결정화)

  • Borosilicate glass was prepared in the composition of 81% $SiO_2$, 4% $Na_2O$, 2% $Al_2O_3$, 13% $B_2O_3$. The albite phase($NaAlSi_3O_8$) increased with the $ZrO_2$(0~10wt.%) addition. For measurement of glass transition temperature($T_g$), crystallization temperature($T_{c,max}$) measured by differential thermal analysis. The $T_g$ and $T_{c,max}$ were $510{\sim}530^{\circ}C$ $650{\sim}670^{\circ}C$, respectively. The crystallized glass was heated at various conditions(temperature, time). After nucleation at $550^{\circ}C$ for 2hours prior to crystal growth at $650^{\circ}C$ for 4hours, the resulting Vickers hardness, fracture toughness and bending strength were about $736H_v$, $1.0779MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$, and 493MPa, which were 17%, 45% and 149% higher than parent borosilicate glass, respectively. Crystal size and transmittance of crystallized borosilicate glass were analyzed by FE-SEM, EDX and UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometer. Transmittance of crystallized borosilicate glass was decreased with increasing $ZrO_2$(wt%) at visible-range. The results prove that light-weight bulletproof can be fabricated by the crystallization of borosilicate glass.

Long-term leach rates of simulated borosilicate waste glasses under a repository condition (처분환경조건에서 모의 방사성폐기물 붕규산유리고화체의 장기침출률)

  • To understand the long-term leach behavior of a borosilicate Waste glass in a repository, the leaching experiment with three kinds of simulated borosilicate waste glasses has been carried out since the middle of 1997. The five years results indicate that a boron would be applied as an indicator of a long-term leaching of their borosilicate waste glasses and that their long-term leach rates have a tendency to be close to about 0.03g/$m^2$-day even though their compositions and their ratios of the surface area to the volume of leachate are different.

  • 저유전 상수와 저온 소성이 가능한 기판 재료의 제조를 위해 sol-gel법으로 borosilicate/Si3N4 Microcomposite 분말을 합성하였다. Microcomposite 분말의 조성은 borosilicate/Si3N4의 부피비로 50/50, 60/40 및 70/30을 선택하였다. Microcomposite의 성형 체는 건식가압법으로 성형하여 700~100$0^{\circ}C$에서 2시간 동안 소결하였다. Microcomposite 의 미세구조는 SEM과 TEM으로 관찰하였고 소결체의 유전 상수와 밀도를 측정하였다. Microcomposite은 85$0^{\circ}C$ 근처에서 치밀화가 일어나고 유전상수는 약 4.2였다.

  • Depending on host environments, $Eu^{2+}$ emission can be spectrally tuned by manipulating the energy levels between allowed $4f{\leftrightarrow}5d$ transition. Spectral variations of $Eu^{2+}$ emission from narrow green emission to broad yellow emission band were achieved by varying the host lattices such as Sr- or Ba-silicate, borate, and borosilicate.

  • Effects of chemical compositions on the sintering behavior of the lead borosilicate glass developed for barrier ribs of plasma display panels were investigated in this study. Formation of pores during sintering of the glass was noted and their formation mechanism was investigated using XPS, TG/DTA, and XRD. The results indicated that pores are formed by the oxygen released from Pb-oxides during sintering.

  • Borosilicate, $B_2O_3$ and BN derived from liquid precursors have been tested as shielding materials for the long period of oxidation resistance of C/BN composites at $650^{\circ}C$. Borosilicate coating displayed excellent oxidation resistance and low moisture absorbance, while $B_2O_3$ and BN were less effective in elevating the oxidation resistance. The enhancement of the oxidation resistance was explained as self-healing effect by viscous flow of the borosilicate glass over Tg, resulting in the reduction of the exposed carbon fibers in a BN matrix.

  • The etching characteristics of Er-doped sodium borosilicate glass film for the planar optical waveguides were investigated using reactive ion etching. The etch rate decreased as the pressure in creased but increased as the RF power increased. The etch rate increased as the flow rate C2F gas and the amount of O2 addition increased but decreased over critical point (C2F6 7,5 accm O2 20%) The etch rate was 180${\AA}$/min under C2F6 7.5 sccm O2 20% RF power 270 W, pressure 150 mTorr. With this optimum etching condition and subsequent heat treatment at 975$^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes planar optical waveguides having improved sidewall roughness were fabricated successfully.

  • ZnS doped borosilicate glass for nonlinear optical application was prepared by melting and precipitation process. The optical band gap of the precipitated ZnS particles ranged from 3.83 to 3.96 eV compared with the bulk ZnS energy gap of 3.53 eV. This result was interpreted in terms of a quantum confinement effect due to small crystal size. ZnS partilcle size estimated by effective mass approximation ranged from about 39 to 83 $\AA$ It increased wtih the increase of heat tratment time and temperature.

  • Er-doped sodiumborosilicate glass films for waveguides amplifier were fabricated by Aerosol Flame Deposition(AFD) method. Al2O3 was added to sodium borosilicate glass films to suppress the formation of crystalline phase and control the refractive index. the formation of crystalline phase was suppressed above Al2O3 of 6 wt%. As the amount of Al2O3 increased from 2 to 12 wt% the refractive index of glass films increased lineary from 1.4595 up to 1.4710. After the core of 77SiO2-15B2O3-8Na2O+6 wt%Al2O3+8wt%Er2O3 was coated on the buffer layer of 77SiO2-15B2O3-8Na2O+6 wt%Al2O3, the core was etched by reactive ion etching. The absorption spectrum of 3 cm waveguide amplifier showed two peaks of 1530 and 1550 nm.
