  • With the proliferation of the e-Book industry, people are increasingly interacting with e-Book as information systems. While e-Book contains the components regarded as an information system(IS), few studies have been conducted to assess the success of e-Book from IS perspective. This study proposed and empirically evaluated an e-Book success model. Structural equation modeling techniques were applied to the data collected by questionnaire from 241 users of e-Book. Every relationship among constructs was significantly supported by the data. This finding provided theoretical implications to extend existing e-Book research into the broader IS research area. Furthermore, this study illustrated the use of multi-group structural analysis to test the differences in structural weights between high e-Book and high paper book utility groups. The managerial implications of the results in setting different relationships and allocating appropriate paths to vitalize the e-Book market were discussed.

  • The content curation service through big data analysis is receiving great attention in various content fields, such as film, game, music, and book. This service recommends personalized contents to the corresponding user based on user's preferences. The existing book curation systems recommended books to users by using bibliographic citation, user profile or user log data. However, these systems are difficult to recommend books related to character names or spatio-temporal information in text contents. Therefore, in this paper, we suggest a personalized book curation system based on integrated mining of a book. The proposed system consists of mining system, recommendation system, and visualization system. The mining system analyzes book text, user information or profile, and SNS data. The recommendation system recommends personalized books for users based on the analysed data in the mining system. This system can recommend related books using based on book keywords even if there is no user information like new customer. The visualization system visualizes book bibliographic information, mining data such as keyword, characters, character relations, and book recommendation results. In addition, this paper also includes the design and implementation of the proposed mining and recommendation module in the system. The proposed system is expected to broaden users' selection of books and encourage balanced consumption of book contents.

  • Recently, electronic-book (e-book) market is growing rapidly due to the evolution of information technology and e-book standard EPUB. Users can search e-book on-line and download easily to their e-book readers such as amazon's kindle or smartphones. On the other hand, there is lack of e-book contents for the reading disabled people because of high cost of making e-book accessibility for the reading disabled people. If we can translate EPUB specified e-book contents to the alternative e-book contents suitable for the reading disabled people, then there are many advantages to acquire various types and large volumes of e-book contents for the reading disabled people. This paper suggests a new electronic publishing ecosystem for the reading disabled people using e-book translation method. It also suggests a promotion strategy of e-book market for the reading disabled people.

  • Back-of-book-style indexes have a similar function as back-of-book indexes. The best advantage o4 back-of-book-style indexes for Information access on the web is to give direct access to specific subjects of interest. Though back-of-book-style indexes are alphabetically arranged as back-of-book indexes, they have linked index entries to contents on the site by using a anchor tag of HTML. In this research, I have created back-of-book-style indexes in two separated ways, by hand-crafted and semi-automatic Indexing. We have utilized back-of-book-style indexes, that is similar to back-of-book index of traditional information organization method of library and information science, in library circumstances.

  • In this paper, we propose a mobile book management application using the camera of a smart phone and the open API book information provided online. The camera automatically scans the bar-code or QR-code of a particular book. The code of that book is used to transmit detailed information to the open API. Then the proposed application records this information for use in an "Scan list" or an "My book list". This application notes the page of the book that the user is currently reading and, if the user has read the entire book, he or she can comment about it. Therefore, the proposed application provides useful functions so that the users can manage their books effectively.

  • As a public institution, it is the duty and responsibility of a library to provide readers with information about books. To provide such information to readers, a librarian should have the ability to provide satisfactory consultation and advice. As interest in picture books grows, there is an increasing need for libraries and librarians to produce and release picture book reviews on a regular basis to inform readers of what makes a good picture book, and which among similar books should they choose. Other than summarizing the content of a picture book, a good picture book review should also provide additional information that will help readers understand the reviewed book such as the literary symbolism of a book's visual texts. To this end, a librarian is required to develop visual literacy, which would enable him/her to read into the deeper meaning of the images imbued with the writer's ideas and philosophy. In light of the above discussion, this study compares and analyzes two picture book versions of the story Little Red Riding Hood, with the purpose of helping librarians understand the visual texts that they need to refer to when writing picture book reviews.
