  • Donguibogam, Korea's cultural heritage and traditional Oriental medicine book listed in the World Heritage three years ago, is indeed great in its importance and value. Korea's posterity has sought treatment methods through the medical book and their researches on that book have continued. However, it is rare to make the concrete analysis on the medicines for prescriptions recorded in the book. In this study, we reviewed "Ears" in the Section "Bodily Appearance" among the five chapters of Donguibogam, and analyzed the 55 types of prescriptions for ear diseases, the medical characteristics, tastes, prime classification of medical herbs, and acupunctural effects, and the dosage forms depending on prescriptions. For insect-entering ear diseases and 20 kinds of a single-medicine prescription also, the treatments are presented in the book, but we presented the texts only and excluded them in the analysis. We also excluded overlapping prescriptions and adding and reducing prescriptions of the 55 prescriptions, and thus classified the left 42 proscriptions by dosage form. As a result: 1. With respect to medical characteristics, the medicine with warm characteristics reached 9 types(40.9%), the highest rate, followed by the medicine with cold characteristics 8 types (36.4%). 2. Concerning medical tastes, the medicine with bitter taste included 12 types (54.5%), the medicine with sour taste 10 types (45.5%), and the medicine with sweet taste 7 types (31.8%). It was unusual that of the 22 medicines used for multipurpose, no medicine with the taste was found. 3. For the acupunctural effects, the medicine with acupuncture effects for spleen medirian reached 12 types in total (54.5%). On the contrary, the medicine with the effects for pericardium meridian reached only one (4.5%) among the total of 22 medicines. 4. In the dosage form of 42 prescriptions, powder medicine was 15 types (35.7%), and decoction medicine was 14 (33.3%). Powder, dedoction, and pill medicines accounted for 90.4% of the total medicine type. It was found that in particular, for ear diseases powder medicine was used more frequently than decoction medicine.

  • This study aims to analyze and compare the difference of preference to realistic and fantastic expressions presented in the illustrations of children's picture books. The subject of this study is set for 52 seven-year-old kindergarten students, including 26 boys and 26 girls, in Cheonan. Two times of researches on their preferences were made on the basis of data collection through individual interviews and self-regulatory questionnaires. A children's picture book, which best demonstrates both realistic and fantastic expressions, was selected as a research tool for such questionnaire from the ones produced and printed within Korea, which either are listed in the Recommended Book List of Children's Book Research Association or received any international award. The result shows that both boys and girls prefer fantastic expressions to realistic ones. It was also found that girls tend to prefer realistic expressions that the boys do. Nevertheless, there definitely was a limitation in thorough analysis by region or age, as they tended to show different responses when they were provided with a picture book with similar theme and story, but different form of expression.

  • Through 1960 and 1970s, there had been constant endeavor in order to succeed the korean traditional architectural heritages. Among those efforts Ahn Yung Bae's book "Exterior Space in Traditional Korean Architecture"presented unique methodology utilizing abstraction of space and movement of subject. His method doesn't refer traditional form of architecture. He ignores formal elements. Instead, he reads space through subject's movement and this reading act creates meaning of space. So, he constructed knowledge not about the object of traditional architecture but the subject of today. Ahn's book opens new discourse based on traditional korean architecture. His analyses didn't deal with the form of traditional space, but the experiences of observer. However many historical documents related to architecture had not been interpreted until nineties and the succession of heritage became to be broken by modernity through 20th century. In this situation his book showed the unavoidable method, that is, the modernization of tradition.

  • This study is to survey the present book numbers used in Korean libraries. to analyze their problems. and to suggest improvement in the book numbers. As the results of the survey several suggestions are derived as follows. 1. The education to the librarians about the kinds and the application methods of the book numbers used in Korean libraries should be sufficiently offered. 2. The present book numbers used should be expanded in detail for avoiding the duplication of the call numbers. Also when book numbers are assigned. shelf list cards should be examined one by one not to give the same number. If the book numbers are overlapped in the state not to expand further. libraries should establish a detailed expansion rules according to their respective situation and maintain it consistently. However, it is impossible for libraries operating open stack systems to arrange books on the shelves in call number sequence, therefore libraries can solve the problems as they accept duplication cases. 3. Since the object word of main mark IS a heading In main entry, we must apply cataloging rules to it closely. 4. For expanding book numbers widely it is desirable that the subsidiary mark of the book numbers which is the most prevalent in general and will be the most preferable In the future through the survey should be added and be provided. 5. The book numbers used being changed, we are to assign new book number leaving former materials as they are at the point of adopting a new book number. So aged materials are stored in a repository or on a compact shelf in the stack, will be discarded or weeded according to subjects after a certain period of time. 6. With library automation bringing together all the books of an author in a particular subject or in a particular form and avoiding completely duplication in open stack systems are meaningless. Rather than chronological book numbers, distinguishing clearly new materials from aged materials and controlling the stack spaces mechanically and effectively, can be regarded as the most modern and future-oriented of all the book numbers.

  • The current paper examines the role of the identity of entrepreneurs in the emergence and evolution of a new organizational form by empirically analyzing the evolution of eBook publishers in Korea from 1996 to 2011. Drawing on the recently developed identity-based theory of organizational form in the organizational ecology literature, we test hypotheses on the effects of focused and diffused organizational identities on organizational founding in an emergent organizational population. The results of our empirical analysis that tested three hypotheses about a positive relationship between focused identity and form emergenceand negative relationships between diffused (horizontal and vertical) identity and form emergence largely supported the argument of identity-based entrepreneurship. General implications are discussed.

  • The illustrations of picture book for children transmit not only one image but also the summary and contents of the picture book by connecting images harmoniously. The images of picture book give children a variety of emotion and impression depending upon the location of image at various factors such as blank and form, texture and colors, and space feeling, etc. Therefore, the picture book for children has the continuity transmitting the flow of images by not only the contents of natural story but also uniform and rhythmical factors. The continuity of images can transmit images by visual ideas that are produced depending upon the connections of pictures between writings and picture, between images, and inside images. In such a way, children can understand the contents of story. The paper examines the continuity of the images of the picture book for children and describes correct expressions on harmonious connections of the images made based on children's individuality and ingenuity.

As conventional textbooks are now switched into eBooks, the effects of contextual factors including lecturer, student computer competency, content and design of the course, access ability, infrastructure, and university support on eBook acceptance and learning outcome needs to be evaluated. The sample of this study is represented by students at the Universiti Teknologi MARA, City Campus Melaka, undertaking 'strategic management course'. Non-probability random sampling was selected as the sampling technique and a purposive sampling method was chosen to select the samples. The samples comprised 171 students randomly selected through Google Form. The questionnaire data was analyzed by using PLS-SEM. The results indicated that these factors contributed 62.3% variations in the eBook acceptance and 67.1% variations in the learning outcomes. The strongest factor affecting both dependent variables was content and design of course. Managerial implication suggested that the content for all courses taught through the eBook platform needs to be revisited and improved in accordance with the mode of online deliverance. Tutorial on how to navigate the eBook platform is important to all users as this would enhance acceptance and produce better learning outcomes among students.

  • Objectives : This paper analyzes the new Majinhwiseong(麻疹彙成) manuscript discovered in Jeonju. The Majinhwiseong is a medical book specializing in measles co-authored in 1798 by Lee, Won-pung and three doctors from a middle class family. Until recently, the Handok (Korean-German) Medicine Museum copy was known to be the only existing version, but a new manuscript was recently discovered. Methods : The author, bibliography, organization, cited literature, and content of the book were studied. The contents of the Handok Museum of Medicine copy and other manuscripts were compared then reviewed. Results : 1. The book shows that middle class workers in the late 19th century were able to collaborate based on the results of their craft and form strong bonds. 2. The book was being prepared for publication in Pyeongan Gamyeong in December 1798, but failed to be published due to the sudden death of the Pyeongan-do governor. 3. For a correct understanding of this book, it is necessary to study the Handok Medicine Museum edition and the newly discovered manuscript (Jeonju edition) together. Conclusions : The two editions are of a different lineage. The Jeonju edition is overall more specific, while some parts are more detailed in the Handok edition. In conclusion, the Majinhwiseong is a book that was written by middle class doctors of late 18th century whose clinical experience was combined with Chinese medical theories. The book was specifically targeted to professional medical audiences.
