The Development of 12.1' SVGA Reflective Color Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display with The New Structured Reflector and Optimized Optical Films

  • We have developed the 12.1" SVGA reflective type color TFT-LCD(Thin Film Transistor - Liquid Crystal Display) with the high aperture ratio and well designed reflector for the applications such as mini note PC, Note PC and electronic book. The panel shows the high reflectance(30%) and contrast ratio(20:1) resulted from optimizing the optical films and designing the embossing shaped reflector. By improving the chromacity, the color reproducibility was increased up to 20%. As removing the backlight unit, we reduced the power consumption, thickness and weight of the panel to 0.8W, 2.2mm, and 250gram, respectively. According to the above performances, we have obtained fabrication process for mass production, and furthermore, could have access to fast market launching.

전자책 표준간의 컨텐츠 변환에 관한 연구 (A Study of Standard eBook Contents Conversion)

  • 전자책은 디지털화의 여러 장점으로 인해 향후 급성장할 것으로 예측되고 있으며, 세계 각 국에서는 이런 전자책 시장을 선점하기 위하여 각 국의 환경에 적합한 전자책 표준을 발표하고 있다. 미국에서는 전자책 포럼(OEBF)에서 전자책 분배와 출력을 위한 OEB PS를 발표하였고, 일본에서는 일본전자책출판협의회(Jepa)에서 전자책 저장과 교환을 목적으로 JepaX를 발표하였다. 국내에서도 지난 2001년에 한국 전자책 컨소시엄(EBK)에서 전자책의 명확한 교환을 위해서 EBKS를 발표하였다. 발표된 세 전자책 표준은 전부 XML에 기반하고 있으며, 각 국의 전자책 환경에 적합한 나름대로의 문서구조를 정의하고 있다. 그런데 이러한 문서구조의 상이성은 각 표준을 따르는 전자책 교환시 명확한 교환을 어렵게 한다. 그러므로 명확하게 전자책 컨텐츠를 교환하기 위해서는 각 표준에서 정의하고 있는 문서의 논리적인 구조를 고려한 변환이 필요하다. 이에 본 논문에서는 한국의 전자책 표준을 중심으로 전자책 컨텐츠 표준간의 변환에 관해 연구하였다. 본 논문에서는 전자책 컨텐츠 변환을 위해서 각 표준의 논리적인 구조와 특징을 분석하여 각 표준에 적합한 대응관계를 정의하였다. 또한 명확한 변환을 위해서 기존의 XML 변환과 달리 대응관계 정의시 경로와 네임스페이스(namespace)를 이용하였다. 따라서 세밀하게 구조 정보를 지정할 수 있고, 각 구조의 출처를 밝힘으로써 컨텐츠에 대한 일관성 있는 해석이 가능하다. 또한 본 논문에서는 정의된 대응관계를 이용하여 변환 스크립트를 정의하고 실제 전자책 컨텐츠에 적용하였다. 그리고 전자책 표준간의 변환을 구조 정보 측면에서 자동, 반자동, 수동으로 분류하였다. 제안된 분류는 전자책 컨텐츠 뿐 아니라 일반 XML 문서간의 변환에도 적용 가능하다.

Photo Spacer Induced Bistable Mode Plastic PSFLCDs for High Mechanical Stability

  • We report new polymer stabilized ferroelectric liquid crystal (PSFLC) cells with mechanical stability which is achievable by introducing photospacers in the cells. It was found that the mechanical st ability of the PSFLC cell was effected by introduction of photo spacers. We analyzed the dependence of mechanical stability and memory property on the density of photospacers in the PSFLC cell. The stability and memory properties of PSFLC Cells depending on photospacer density are discussed. 1. Introduction Recently, flexible displays have attracted much attention because they have remarkable advantages: thinner, lighter, non-breakable and conformable features. Flexible displays have various potential applications such as e-book and e-paper displays utilizing the distinct features. E-book and E-paper displays demand very low power consumption, so that bistable memory liquid crystal modes are required in case of flexible plastic LCDs for those application. Three kinds of memory LC modes have been developed; bistable nematic, bistable cholesteric and bistable FLC. Among them SSFLC as one of bistable FLC has big advantages such as low driving voltage, wide view angle and fast response time, SSFLC cells are, however, very weak against mechanical shock. Polymer stabilized FLC (PSFLC) has been developed to overcome the poor mechanical stability of SSFLC. PSFLC was known to have network structure that FLCs are oriented with smectic layer ordering in polymer network. The polymer network stabilizes the FLC orientation, which leads to improvement of mechanical stability of PSFLCD. A lot of studies have been done for the application of PSFLC to flexible $LCDs.^{[1{\sim}12]}$ However, it should be noted that PSFLC does not have sufficient mechanical stability for the particular applications such as smart card LCD, where LCD is highly bendable.Bead spacer was mainly used to maintain cell gap of conventional PSFLCDs. But the spacer density of it is not locally uniform in the cell, so that it is generally difficult that the PSFLCDs with bead spacers show sufficient mechanical stability. In order to more improve the mechanical stability of PSFLCDs, we introduced photospacers into PSFLCDs. In this paper, we describe the improvement of mechanical stability by introducing photospacers into PSFLCDs.

슈퍼모던 환경에서 나타나는 패션디자이너의 작품 특성 (The Characteristics of Fashion Designer's Work Shown in Supermodern Environment)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of supermodern fashion designer's work, which is shown by responding to supermodern environment where non-spaces such as road, railroad and airport are surplus in modern city environment. For the study, the researcher used existing study and specialized book basically and analyzed photograph materials by selecting them in specialized fashion book, internet site and designer's homepage. The results of this study showed that supermodern fashion design is the functional fashion responding to the change of time and space concept of supermodern society directly. As the common points of supermodern designer's works, first, they try to create private space enabling wearer to cope with risk caused by the environmental change and transitional space by adding architectural factor to fashion. Second, they display the design with protective function and metaphorical expression of concealment and deception in the supermodern environment where nonspace is increasing. Third, designers search the functional design from the aspect of fabric and detail while intending the technology in order to cope with supermodern environment.

커뮤니케이션을 지원하는 도서관가구에 관한 연구 (A Study on Library Furniture to support Communication Channel)

  • Library is a communication channel between book and human. Specially public library furniture plays an important role from every aspect in information materials and users, among users and in relationship between library managers and users. This study defined library furniture as a communication channel which connects library materials and users and was based on 35 local libraries and 12 overseas libraries. The author studied major elements and characteristics which constitute communication types among storage furniture, furniture in reading areas and furniture in digital reading area. The followings are the results from the study. First, storage furniture should be designed by reflecting characteristics of library materials and for effective delivering to the users. Therefore utmost communication can be made by searching for various designs in book-shelves and effective manner of display. Secondly, furniture in reading areas should support various users' needs from customized browsing to long hour studying and there should be properly supported for private space and correspondent reading postures. The third, there are needs for design conditions to support privacy and for comfort from long hour reading and mobility out of posture change in digital reading areas. The fourth, there should be ergonomically designed furniture plan and surroundings in public library which can boost various reading postures. Also furniture plan should be done by considering users' bodies and eyes orientations which can result in improved power of concentration.

  • 최근 정부의 창조과학의 일환으로 과학교육의 활성화를 위한 정책을 추진하고 있지만 과학전시는 인프라의 부족과 예산 및 인력의 부족으로 많은 어려움을 겪고 있는 현실이다. 과거의 과학관은 현장학습 체험의 대표적인 장소이자 유청소년들의 호기심의 장소였다. 그러나 현대에는 과학관의 경쟁상대는 테마파크나 온라인 게임들이 경쟁의 대상으로 부각되어지면서 체험과 교육이라는 두 가지 목표를 달성하기 위한 과학체험 전시기기의 변화가 요구되어진다. 해외 선진 과학관의 사례를 살펴보면 과학관이 단순한 과학교육 체험의 장이 아닌 하나의 문화공간으로서 휴식과 엔터테인먼트를 제공하고 있으며, 과학이외에도 주변 생활을 다양한 장르의 예술이나 패션 등과 결합하여 전시를 기획하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 현재의 획일화 되어진 전시기기의 설명 패널을 디지로그 북을 이용한 설명 패널로 교체하여 관람객의 연령과 학년에 맞춘 서비스를 제공함으로서 과학지식에 대한 지적 호기심 유발과 관람객의 만족도를 높일 수 있는 방안을 제시 하고자 한다.

이용자-OPACs접속의 정보 흐름과 표현의 분석 (Analysis on the Information Flows and Representations of User-OPACs Interfaces.)

  • The main objective of this study is to analyse the information flows and representations which is shown at the displays of the user-OPACs interfaces in the 5 academic library automation systems. The findings made in the study are summarized as follows: 1) The interactive styles of that displays are based on the menu selection style. 2) The structures of information flow on that displays are the compound structure which is basically made of the network, the binary, and the pop-up structures. 3) The elements of the displays are consisted with the fields concerning the database name, the current working area, the indicator, the menu, the exit, the prompt and the system message. 4) The essential entries of the main menus are Book, Periodical. and Thesis. 5) The important languages of the command language styles are Search, Display, Print, Help, and End. 6) The elements of the display structures for the retrieval are the retrieving key, the Boolean operators, and the exit. 7) The major retrieving keys are Title, Author, Subject name, Call Number, and Publisher. 8) The marks of Boolean operators on the retrieval displays is different among the systems each other.

  • Terahertz waves are superior to conventional X-ray or Magnetic Resonance Tomography(MRI), and the amount of information that can be transmitted is as large as thousands of times that conventional X-ray or MRI. In addition, Terahertz waves have great performance in analyzing an object which have some layered structure. By using this advantage, we can extract the letters of a page by analyzing information such as absorption amount and reflection amount by irradiating a closed book with pulses of various frequencies within gap of a terahertz wave. However, in the image of each page using the Terahertz wave might be obtained various kinds of noise and the different character occlusion region. So, to extract letters from the terahertz image, we must take the noise and occlusion region away. We have been working to enhancement the image quality in various ways, and keep on studying de-noising processing for enhancement about the image quality and high resolution. Finally, we also keep on studying about OCR(Optical Character Recognition) technology, which based on pattern matching technique, to read letters.

The effectiveness of HMD-based virtual environments through 3D camera for hotel room tour

  • Many of hotel customers obtain information from hotel websites to find the best alternative. One of the crucial information for the choice is spatial/visual information of hotel rooms. However, hotel website provides photographs only showing representative room features that may not be sufficient to give a full understanding of hotel room to customers. HMD-based 3D virtual environments (HVE) created by 3D camera could improve customers' experiences of hotel rooms by providing full virtual tours of hotel rooms. However, to the best of our knowledge, whether HVE can adequately provide similar customers' perception on spatial/visual information remains unproven as physical hotel rooms. The present study thus aims to verify how similar and reliable information on physical hotel room HVE provides to hotel customers in comparison with hotel website with 2D photograph and display-based 3D virtual environment. For this purpose, this study conducted a comparative experiment to investigate perception of three environments. As a result, the study found that HVE is more effective to provide spatial/visual information as similar as an actual hotel room. In addition, HVE increases customers' perceptions towards the reliability of information, the quality of hotel room and intention to book.

  • In the commercial trains, there are monitors hung on the ceiling which simply display broadcasted contents so a passenger in a cabin has only one choice of passively watching them or not. To lead the application of IT in railway, keep a passenger from tedious journey, or help a passenger having a productive time, an MCS(Multimedia Contents System) was analyzed, designed, and implemented. A passenger can select and use a content from a smart terminal that is attached at the passenger's seat. A smart terminal is one that has its own memory and processor to handle informations and interact with a user. In this paper, the contents, such as train schedule, transfer information, traveling information, e-book, TV, music, and game, that the MCS can provide were introduced. To validate the applicability of the MCS on a next generation high-speed train, a testing environment will be set on a pre-production car and tested. The successful installation of the MCS will boost up the competitive power of the next generation train in the world market.
