Results from multiple high profile experiments on the parameters influencing the impacts that cause skull fractures to the frontal, temporal, and parietal bones were gathered and analyzed. The location of the impact as a binary function of frontal or lateral strike, the velocity, the striking area of the impactor, and the force needed to cause skull fracture in each experiment were subjected to statistical analysis using the JMP statistical software pack. A novel neural network model predicting skull fracture threshold was developed with a high statistical correlation ($R^2=0.978$) and presented in this text. Despite variation within individual studies, the equation herein proposes a 3 kN greater resistance to fracture for the frontal bone when compared to the temporoparietal bones. Additionally, impacts with low velocities (<4.1 m/s) were more prone to cause fracture in the lateral regions of the skull when compared to similar velocity frontal impacts. Conversely, higher velocity impacts (>4.1 m/s) showed a greater frontal sensitivity.
Purpose: The purpose of a role model is to find a master or expert who conduct their business effectively and work as a model that helps staff in charge to conduct their works effectively. This process is an effort to find out the deviation of work performance capability among staffs in charge and settle the work process to be optimized to practical business, the standardization of protocol. Materials and Methods: Seoul Asan medical center nuclear department developed 6~7 role modeling items and has applied it to work. I report two operation improvement cases we had applied a role model to Seoul ASAN medical center. Result: By comparison with none application of a role model, we could improve operation efficiency. Conclusion: The main purpose of role modeling is to make the employees who do the business in their charge effectively as a role model and contribute to work performance of employees who are lack of work performance although they performed their works hard. Our team is going to develop role model items continuously and to make a use of it to practical work then improve work performance. We regard it as a useful tool to performance improvement. The performance improvement by using a role model was very useful instrument.
Purpose: Adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction (ASIR) technique is a reconstruction method of CT image using statistical noise modeling which is known to reduce image noise and to preserve image quality despite reducing radiation dose. The aim of this study is to evaluate images using ASIR on bone SPECT/CT which is primarily performed in our hospital. Materials and Methods: We compared the images of applied ASIR (ASIR level: 20-80%) and none ASIR by changing the mA based on 120 kVp, 100 mA using Discovery NM/CT 670 (GE, U.S.A). First, we evaluated attenuation correction in SPECT image by changing the ASIR level using Anthropomorphic phantom. Second, we compared the contrast to noise ratio (CNR), image noise and spatial resolution in CT image using ACR phantom. Third, after selecting the ASIR level applicable patient using lower torso phantom, we examined 2 patients who followed up bone SPECT/CT and we performed blind test. Results: The degree of attenuation correction in SPECT image showed no significant difference between applied ASIR and none ASIR (P>0.05). When applied ASIR, the noise of CT image were reduced at least 17 up to 52% by changing the mA. The CNR of image with ASIR was maintained more than 0.8 at 40 mA (ASIR 60%) while those without ASIR showed 0.42 at standard 40 mA. In comparison of the high contrast object, we distinguished 12 line pairs/cm at 40 mA regardless of appling ASIR. Comparison of the patients image applied ASIR level 60% (40 mA) which found out by spine image of lower torso phantom showed no signigicant difference between applied ASIR and none ASIR in blind test. The CTDIvol and DLP for applied ASIR 60% showed decreased by 60%, 60% on average than using standard mA. Conclusion: The study show that the radiation dose in SPECT/CT using ASIR can be reduced despite degradation of SPECT and CT images. In addition, higher ASIR level could be possibly applied characteristics of SPECT/CT that region of interest is limited to bone.

This paper describes a novel experiment that measures the skin movement of a hand based on MR (magnetic resonance) images in conjunction with surface modeling techniques. The proposed approach consists of 3 phases: (1) MR scanning of a hand with surface makers, (2) 3D reconstruction from the MR images. and (3) registration of the 3D models. The results of registration are used to trace the skin movement with respect to underlying bone motions by measuring the positions of the surface markers.
Distraction osteogenesis is applied to correct mandible or maxilla deformities. Owing to the distractor being away from the skin, it is not aesthetic. Infection can arise due to manual part. And therefore, it is necessary to make the distractor using a new mechanism. 3D software was used for the intraoral distractor modeling. 3D meshes were used to analyze the stress distribution of the distractor was analyzed using Finite element analysis software. This research developed a intraoral distractor for continuous mandible distraction through convergence study. Base on the results, it provide helpful data for future version of the wireless intraoral distractor in other fields of bio and medical engineering.

Statement of problem: The screws of dental implant, having various thread types, can be categorized into different classes by their geometrical form, and each type transmits dissimilar amount and form of stress to alveolar bone. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to find an inclination angle of the screw thread that is favorable in distributing the stresses to alveolar bone. Material and methods: In this study, We used three dimensional finite element analysis with modeling having three types of thread inclination angles and fixed pitch-0.8 mm (single thread type with $3.8^{\circ}$ inclination, double thread type with $7.7^{\circ}$ inclination, triple thread type with $11.5^{\circ}$ inclination). Results: The results obtained from this study were as follows; 1. When the number of thread increased, the amount of Von-Mises stress was reduced since the generated stress was effectively distributed. 2. Since the maximum principal stress affects on the alveolar bone can influence deeply on the longevity of the implants when comparing the magnitude of the maximum principal stress double thread had least amount of stress. This shows that the double thread screw gave best result. Conclusion: In conclusion, double, and triple thread screws were found to be more effective on distribution of the stress than the single thread screws. But, increasing in the thread inclination angle such as triple thread screw relate on the magnitude of the maximum principal stress affecting on the alveolar bone can become problematic. Thus, effective combination of thread number and thread inclination angle can help prolonging the longevity of implant.
The dental osseointegration implant should be enough to endure occlusion load and it's required to have efficient design and use of implant to disperse the stress into bones properly. Solidworks as a finite element analysis program for modeling and analysis of stress distribution was used for the research. The simple crown model was designed on applying conjoined condition with tightening torque of 20 Ncm of a abutment screw between a cement retained implant abutment and a fixture. A $45^{\circ}$ oblique loading from lingual to buccal side on buccal cusps of crown and performed finite element analysis by 100 N of external load. The results by a analysis for stress distribution of supporting bones of fixture were as below. The von Mises stress was concentrated on the upper side of supporting compact bone regardless of the diameters and lengths of fixture, and the efficiency result of stress reduction was increase of fixture's diameter than it's length. Therefore, it's effective to use wider fixture as possible to the conditions of supporting jaw bone.
Osteoclasts, derived from multipotent myeloid progenitor cells, play homeostatic roles in skeletal modeling and remodeling, but may also destroy bone in pathological conditions such as osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoclast development depends critically on a differentiation factor, the receptor activator of NF-${\kappa}B$ ligand (RANKL). In this study, we found that the hexane soluble fraction of the common fig Ficus carica (HF6-FC) is a potent inhibitor of osteoclastogenesis in RANKL-stimulated RAW264.7 cells and in bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMMs). HF6-FC exerts its inhibitory effects by suppression of p38 and NF-${\kappa}B$ but activation of ERK. In addition, HF6-FC significantly decreased the expression of NFATc1 and c-Fos, the master regulator of osteoclast differentiation. The data indicate that components of HF6-FC may have therapeutic effects on bone-destructive processes such as osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and periodontal bone resorption.

Purpose: The reconstruction of mandibular defects poses many difficulties due to the unique, complex shape of the mandible and the temporomandibular joints. With development of microvascular anastomosis, free tissue transplantation techniques, such as deep circumflex iliac artery (DCIA) flap and fibular free flap (FFF), were developed. The DCIA offers good quality and quantity of bone tissue for mandibular segmental defect and implant for dental rehabilitation. Virtual surgical planning (VSP) and stereolithography-guided osteotomy are currently successfully applied in three-dimensional mandibular reconstruction, but most use FFF. There are only a few articles on reconstruction with the DCIA that assess the postoperative results. Methods: Three patients admitted during a five month period (April of 2013 to August of 2013) underwent resection of mandible and DCIA musculo-osseous reconstruction using a VSP and stereolithographic modeling and assessment of outcomes included technical accuracy, esthetic contour, and functional outcomes. Results: This technique yielded iliac bone segment with excellent apposition and duplication of the preoperative plan. Flap survival was 100 percent and all patients maintained preoperative occlusion and contour. Conclusion: Based on our experience, we offer considerations and logically consistent protocols by classification of mandibular defects, and demonstrate the benefits in VSP and stereolithographic modeling of mandibular reconstructive surgery with DCIA flap.
Recent 3D printing technology has been grafting onto various medical practices. In light of this trend, this research is intended to examine the figuration surface's accuracy of 3D images made by using DICOM images after printing by 3D printing. The medical images were obtained from animal bone objects, while the objects were printed after undergoing STL file conversion for 3D printing purposes. Ultimately, after the 3D figuration, which was obtained by the original animal bones and 3D printing, was scanned by 3D scanner, 3D modeling was merged each other and the differences were compared. The result analysis was conducted by visual figuration comparison, color comparison of modeling's scale value, and numerical figuration comparison. The shape surface was not visually distinguished; the numerical figuration comparison was made from the values measured from the four different points on the X, Y and Z coordinates. The shape surface of the merged modeling was smaller than the original object (the animal bone) by average of -0.49 mm in the 3D printed figuration. However, not all of the shape surface was uniformly reduced in size and the differences was within range of -0.83 mm on the experiment.
