Epoxy-coated re-bar was partly used to the structures and put to practical use, but were not economical and appeared to have defects such as the diminishing of long term bond strength between concrete. The study of polymer cement slurry coated re-bar was started in order to complement the defect of epoxy coated re-bar, and ever since the basic properties appeared to be excellent. But, study of bond properties embedded in concrete specimens was insufficient until now. This study attempts to examine the possibility of improving the bond strength of polymer cement slurry coated re-bar between concrete specimens in accordance with ACI Code and KS Code through pull-out test of 150mm$\times$150mm$\times$150mm substrates with polymer cement slurry coated re-bar having polymer cement ratios of 50%, 75% and 100%, coating thickness 250${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 450 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and with curing ages of 3, 7 and 28 days. High strength concrete was designed having a compressive strength of 500kgf/cm2 as specified. Practical bond length ranges of 55 and 85mm were applied to each of specimen. The bond strength of polymer cement slurry coated re-bar using St/BA-1 and St/BA-2 was compared to that of plain re-bar. The results of this study showed that the bond strength of 55mm bond length was much higher than that of 85mm bond length.

Tensile strength of CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) is approximately 10 times higher than that steel reinforcement, but the design strength of CFRP is normally reduced by the bond failure between RC and CFRP. Many researches have been carried out, concerned with bond behavior between RC and CFRP to prevent the unpredicted bond failure of RC beam strengthened by CFRP, but the national design code for design bond strength of CFRP hasn't been constructed. In this study, 3 beams specimen strengthened by CFRP under the variable of bonded length were tested to derive the design bond strength of CFRP to the RC flexural members. Also 2 beams specimen strengthened by CFRP were tested to inspect the construction environment effects such as mixing error of epoxy resin and the amount of primer epoxy resin. From the test results, It is concluded that the maximum design bond strength of CFRP to RC flexural member is considered to be $\tau_{a}$=8kgf/$cm^{2}$.

The majority of published conclusions about structural configuration effects of bond strength were based on the observed performance of test specimens and their interpretations are mostly empirical and statistical. The empirical and statistical interpretation on bond strength have to be replaced by rational models based on simple, sound and verifiable mechanical principles. It is likely that such models also represent the key to a deeper understanding of some existing experimental data on bond strength. The presented truss model is capable of explaining failure modes involving bond slip that cannot be explained by current truss model.

In this study focuses on bond properties of hybrid FRP rebar after chemical environmental exposure. Hybrid FRP rebar bond specimens were subjected to four type of exposure conditions. Bond properties were investigated by direct bond test. Bond test results, hybrid FRP rebars were found to have better bond strength with concrete than currently using GFRP rebar. Also, hybrid FRP rebar had more than about $80\%$ in bond strength of steel rebar.
Objectives: Some antioxidants are believed to restore dentin bond strength after dental bleaching. This study was done to evaluate the influence of antioxidants on the bond strength of bleached bovine dentin. Materials and Methods: Thirty incisors were randomly assigned to 10 groups (two unbleached control and eight bleached groups:immediate bonding IB, 4 wk delayed bonding DB, 10% sodium ascorbate treated SA, 10% ${\alpha}$-tocopherol treated TP groups). Teeth in half of groups were subjected to thermal stress, whereas the remaining groups were not. Resin-dentin rods with a cross-sectional area of $2.25mm^2$ were obtained and microtensile bond strength was determined at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. Fifteen specimens were prepared for SEM to compare the surface characteristics of each group. The change in dentin bond strength from thermal stress and antioxidant treatment was evaluated using two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Sheffe's post hoc test at a significance level of 95%. Results: The control group exhibited the highest bond strength values, whereas IB group showed the lowest value before and after thermocycling. The DB group recovered its bond strength similar to that of the control group. The SA and TP groups exhibited similar bond strength values with those of the control and DB groups before thermocycling. However, The TP group did not maintain bond strength with thermal stress, whereas the SA group did. Conclusions: Applying a 10% sodium ascorbate solution rather than 10% ${\alpha}$-tocopherol solution for 60 sec is recommended to maintain dentin bond strength when restoring non-vitally bleached teeth.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of pre-treatment of core and hydrothermal treatment on the bond strength and flexural strength of ceramic veneered zirconia. Methods: 3Y-TZP specimens(KaVo Zr, $25mm{\times}3mm{\times}1mm$)were prepared by five pre-treatment methods and divided into seven groups including control two groups, subsequently the specimens veneered with the E-MAX ceram according to manufacturer's information(total specimen thickness 1.5mm). Two groups from ceramic-zirconia specimens(n=105, n=15 per group)were assigned into two experimental fatigue conditions, namely storage in an autoclave at $134^{\circ}C$ for 5h, thermo-cycling(3,000cycles, between 5 and $55^{\circ}C$, dwell time 45s, transfer time 2s). A flexural strength test was performed in a universal testing machine(crosshead speed: 0.5mm/min). Data were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey's test(${\alpha}$=0.05). Results: The ceramic-zirconia bond strength value for liner application group(LLW, $27.3{\pm}3.8$) were significantly lower than those of the pre-treatment groups($30.72{\pm}5.3$). The ceramic-zirconia bond strength and zirconia flexural strength was not affected by thermo-cycling(p>0.05), whereas it was affected by storage in an autoclave at $134^{\circ}C$ for 5h(p<0.05). Conclusion: The results indicated that the ceramic-zirconia bond strength and zirconia flexural strength was affected by low temperature degradation.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of different bases of ceramic brackets on shear bond strength and to observe failure patterns of bracket bondings. Lower bicuspid brackets whose bases designed for the macromechanical and silane treated chemical bonding those for silane treated chemical bonding, those for micromechanical bonding, and those for macromechanical bonding were tested as experimental groups, and foil mesh-backed metal brackets as a control group. All the brackets were bonded with $Mono-Lok\;2^{(TM)}$ on the labial surface of extracted human lower bicuspids after etching the enamel with $38\%$ phosphoric acid solution for 60 seconds. The shear bond strengths were measured on the universal test machine after 24 hours passed in the $37^{\circ}C$ water bath. The gathered data were evaluated and tested by ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test, and those results were as follows. The shear bond strengths of brackets for macromechanical and chemical bonding, those for chemical bonding, and those for micromechanical bonding were not different (p>0.05), but showed statistically higher than those of metal bracket and those of ceramic bracket for micromechanical bonding(p<0.05). The shear bond strengths of ceramic bracket for micromechanical bonding showed statistically lower than those of metal bracket(p<0.05). The enamel fractures and/or ceramic bracket fractures were observed in the cases of higher bond strength than that of metal bracket. These results supported that silane treated base of ceramic bracket show higher shear bond strength than that of metal bracket, and suggested that micromechanical form of ceramic bracket bases show higher shear bond strength than that of macromechanical form.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study is to evaluate if pre-treatment with desensitizers have a negative effect on microtensile bond strength before cementing a restoration using recently introduced self-adhesive resin cement to dentin. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Thirty-five human molars' occlusal surfaces were ground to expose dentin; and were randomly grouped as (n=5); 1) Gluma-(Glutaraldehyde/HEMA) 2) Aqua-Prep F-(Fluoride), 3) Bisblock-(Oxalate), 4) Cervitec Plus-(Clorhexidine), 5) Smart protect-(Triclosan), 6) Nd:YAG laser, 7) No treatment (control). After applying the selected agent, RelyX U200 self-adhesive resin cement was used to bond composite resin blocks to dentin. All groups were subjected to thermocycling for 1000 cycles between $5-55^{\circ}C$. Each bonded specimen was sectioned to microbars ($6mm{\times}1mm{\times}1mm$) (n=20). Specimens were submitted to microtensile bond strength test at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Levene's test, Kruskal-Wallis One-way Analysis of Variance, and Conover's nonparametric statistical analysis were used (P<.05). RESULTS. Gluma, Smart Protect and Nd:YAG laser treatments showed comparable microtensile bond strengths compared with the control group (P>.05). The microtensile bond strengths of Aqua-Prep F, and Cervitec Plus were similar to each other but significantly lower than the control group (P<.05). Bisblock showed the lowest microtensile bond strength among all groups (P<.001). Most groups showed adhesive failure. CONCLUSION. Within the limitation of this study, it is not recommended to use Aqua-prep F, Cervitec Plus and Bisblock on dentin when used with a self-adhesive resin cement due to the decrease they cause in bond strength. Beside, pre-treatment of dentin with Gluma, Smart protect, and Nd:YAG laser do not have a negative effect.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the effects of different surface pretreatment techniques on the surface roughness and shear bond strength of a new self-adhering flowable composite resin for use with lithium disilicate-reinforced CAD/CAM ceramic material. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A total of one hundred thirty lithium disilicate CAD/CAM ceramic plates with dimensions of $6mm{\times}4mm$ and 3 mm thick were prepared. Specimens were then assigned into five groups (n=26) as follows: untreated control, coating with $30{\mu}m$ silica oxide particles ($Cojet^{TM}$ Sand), 9.6% hydrofluoric acid etching, Er:YAG laser irradiation, and grinding with a high-speed fine diamond bur. A self-adhering flowable composite resin (Vertise Flow) was applied onto the pre-treated ceramic plates using the Ultradent shear bond Teflon mold system. Surface roughness was measured by atomic force microscopy. Shear bond strength test were performed using a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. Surface roughness data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and the Tukey HSD tests. Shear bond strength test values were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests at ${\alpha}=.05$. RESULTS. Hydrofluoric acid etching and grinding with high-speed fine diamond bur produced significantly higher surface roughness than the other pretreatment groups (P<.05). Hydrofluoric acid etching and silica coating yielded the highest shear bond strength values (P<.001). CONCLUSION. Self-adhering flowable composite resin used as repair composite resin exhibited very low bond strength irrespective of the surface pretreatments used.

For reinforced concrete members, bond strength is one of the important factors between the two materials: the concrete and the reinforcing element. The bond strength of Aramid Fiber Reinforced Polymer (AFRP) rebar was tested using the pull-out method. Presented were comparison results of the bond strength between AFRP rebar and deformed steel bars from the test. Embedded lengths and diameters of the rebar were taken into account as parameters. The bond stress-slip responses and failure modes of AFRP rebar were evaluated. It was found that the bond stress-slip responses of AFRP rebar were similar to those of deformed steel bars. As the diameter of rebar increased, the pull-out load increased. In addition, it was shown that the bond strength of an AFRP rebar was approximately 54% compared with that of a deformed steel bar.
