The purpose of this study was to compare the comfort sensation depending on four different kinds of denim blue jeans: cotton, cotton/tencel, tencel, cotton/pp. The objective and subjective experiments were conducted to measure the comfort of blue jeans. To investigate the objective comfort, physical properties related to thermal insulation, moisture properties and hand were measured. For subjective comfort measurement, 5 healthy female college students were taken as subjects. The outcomes of the experiments are as follows: The higher the air permeability and bulk density of the denim, the lower the thermal insulation, the thicker the denim, the higher the thermal insulation. Tencel blending denim showed the higher bulk density, the lower air contents, and consequently the lower thermal insulation than the other denims. Tencel showed the highest moisture regain, and cotton/tencel blend showed the highest water vapor permeability. Tencel denim had relatively better flexibility, shape stability and elastic recovery than the other denims. The total hand values of the denims by KES-FB system were not significantly different. Cotton and cotton/pp denims raised the subjects body temperature after excercise more than tencel or cotton/tencel denims. Average skin temperature was found to have a correlation with micro climate temperature and micro climate humidity. The correlation coefficients were 0.749 and 0.767, respectively. However, average skin temperatures were not significantly different among the materials. Pulse rate was found to be the highest when wearing cotton/pp and the lowest in case of cotton/tencel denim. The energy was consumed in order of cotton>cotton/pp>tencel>cotton/tencel. There was no significant difference in preference before excercise, but, after the excercise, the order of preference changed as the following; cotton/tencel>tencel>cotton/pp>cotton.
The purpose of this study was to investigate thermal environmental factors, thermal clothing properties, and thermal sensation of the office workers in four selected office buildings in Seoul, and to determine the effect of thermal environmental factors and clothing insulation to the thermal sensation of the subjects. The subjects selected from each office were 5 males and 5 females at a time. Thermal environmental factors(DBT, GT, RH, MRT, $ET^{\ast}$) and clothing variables such as clothing weight per body surface $area(g/m^2)$ and estimated clothing insulation values(clo) were significantly different among each seasons(p<0,001). Means of $ET^{\ast}$ and estimated clothing insulation values of each season were as follows; Winter; $20.84^{\circ}C$$ET^{\ast}$ with 0.72 clo for male and 0.79 clo for female Spring and fall; $23.65^{\circ}C$$ET^{\ast}$ with 0.59 clo for male and 0.68 clo for female Summer; $26.00^{\circ}C$$ET^{\ast}$ with 0.47 clo for male and 0.53 clo for female. In comparison these data with ASHRAE Standard, the subjects were predicted to feel comfort-able in spring and fall, and slightly hot in summer and slightly cold in winter because of high and low clo respectively. But the result of this survey showed more than $80\%$ of the occupants were thermally comfortable at a given environmental temperature and clo.
This study examined personal protective clothing, specifically the D (M, L, XL) and C (L, XL, 2XL) levels with high sales rates. The goal was to collect essential data for developing Korean personal protective clothing. There were eight and twelve patterns for the D-level and C-level, respectively. While the pattern dimensions were similar, the chest and waist circumferences (relaxed) were larger in the C-level, and the waist (extended), hip, upper arm circumference, and total lengths were larger in the D-level. The D-level wear sensation worked well for average-sized Koreans in their twenties, but the C-level caused discomfort in multiple areas, such as the face, arms, armpits, hips, crotch, thighs, and knee during movement. Consequently, this region required pattern adjustments and resetting for improved comfort. The grading rules were 10 cm in the chest, waist, and hip circumference, regardless of the level, with slight differences in other parts depending on the levels. Thus, manufacturers should establish new grading rules to suit the Korean body shape.
First I chose a patient group and a comparative group composed of 23 members each. Then the body temperature differences in these groups was taken with D.I.T.I. The results are as follows. 1. Average body temperature of the Hwa-Byung patient group is $36.6^{\circ}C$ and that of the comparative group is $36.4^{\circ}C$. So there is no meaningful body temperature difference. 2. The hwa-Byung patient group has higher temperature than the comparative group by ${\triangle}T>1.0^{\circ}C$ at the following acupunture points in these body parts upper and lower, left and right, anterior and posterior, trunk and limb. Especially, the body temperature difference was clear in the CV-17 (jun-Joong) and the GV-4(Myung-moon). 3. When the body temperature was compared in the upper and lower part of the back, it had meaningful differences at the upper and lower acupunture points of the back in the Hwa-Byung patient group but not in the comparative group. 4. When the body temperature was compared in the left and right part of the body, its average difference was ${\triangle}T>1.0^{\circ}C$ in the two groups and the result were meaningless. 5. When body temperature was compared in the anterior and posterior part of the body, its average difference was ${\triangle}T>1.0^{\circ}C$ in the two groups and the result were meaningless. 6. When body temperature was compared in the trunk and limb part of the body, its difference in the patient group was meaningful compared with the non-patient group. From the above results, I think that D.I.T.I. could be used to objectively visualize heat sensation of the Hwa-Byung patients and make an objective concept of Han Yul in oriental medicine.
This study developed smart vests with heat and massage functions that changed patterns, designs, materials, etc., and evaluated their functions and satisfaction. A knitted fabric with good elasticity and a heating lining were used, and in consideration of this, the final vest pattern fitted to the upper body was completed. A heat pad was attached to the back, and 6 vibration motors were attached to the trapezius muscle. The controller was placed on the left chest for easy operation, and the battery was stored in an inner pocket under the controller. The heating effect of the smart vest, the location of the devices, and the ease of operation were excellent. When the massage function was operated, the thermal comfort was increased compared to when the massage function was not operated, and the high thermal comfort was perceived by the operation of heat and heat+massage function. Due to the battery, the weight, irritating contact of devices and wearing sensation decreased, but there was no reduction in wearing sensation due to heat and vibration devices. The greater the satisfaction with the massage function, thermal comfort, fit, appearance and weight, the greater the product satisfaction.
The purpose of this study is to establish the suitable wearing standard under environmental thermal conditions in Pusan. The data is obtained from 50 girl students from April, 1984 to March, 1985. Items of the research are as follows : Environmental conditioni, clothing weight, contents of wearing, clothing climate, wearing order etc. RESULTS : 1. The upper clothing wights are varied considerably with temperature, while the lower are not. 2. The outdoor temperature and the total clothing weights show the high negative correlation of r=-.97 wth regression equation of Y=-37.64X+1692.66. 3. The clothing weight per clo is 390g/$m^2$. 4. Mostly, subjects were 2~7kinds of the upper and 3~5kinds of the lower clothing. 5. The clothing weights on the upper part of the body are heavier than those on the lower part of it. 6. The standard deviation of the obver clothing is larger than that of the under clothing. 7. The clothing shape of comfort-sensation reporter changes with variation of temperature. 8. The clothing climate of the inner layer is 32.26$\pm$$0.5^{\circ}C$ in temperature, 43.6$\pm$7% in humidity at four seasons. 9. It is represented that total subjects and comfort-sensation reporter control the wearing contents suitably for temperature. 10. The standard of wearing in Pusan is established as Fig. 6.
Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate haptic perception related researches into three perspectives: cutaneous & proprioceptive sensations, active & passive touch, and cognition & emotion, then to identify issues for implementing haptic interactions. Objective : The purpose of this study was to explore the correlation between efficacy and various factors of the acne patients. Method : We reviewed 30 acne patients who visited Allergy/Derma-cosmetic Clinic at Kyung Hee Neo Medical Center from June, 2006 to December, 2007 and were treated with herbal medicine and acupuncture for 4 weeks. We investigated premenstrual aggravation of acne, facial burning sensation, constipation, Heart Rate Variability(HRV) results and regional distribution of acne. And we evaluated inflammatory acnes according to the Korean Acne Grading System(KAGS). Results & Conclusions : 1. The average age of total patients was 23.0 years old. The most frequent age group was 21-25 years old. Patients evaluated as KAGS Grade 2 were most common. 2. In total patients, inflammatory acne were reduced significantly after 4 weeks of treatment. 3. The result of analysis on premenstrual aggravation of acne, facial burning sensation and constipation, there weren't any difference of treatment results on statistical meaning. 4. The results show that there were significant correlations between the Low Frequency at HRV and the rate of acne reduction. (Pearson correlation = -0.565) 5. If the distribution of acne did not involve the T-zone of the face, chest, or back of the body, inflammatory acne were significantly decreased after 4 weeks of treatment.
This study performed the evaluation of skin temperature, heart rate, humidity and temperature inside clothing, and subjective sensation to estimate the physiological responses of the human body and its feeling of comfort for developing value-added dox fabric. Experiments were performed on five healthy adult women whose average age was 21, at climate chamber in which temperature, relative humidity and air current were set up below $28{\pm}5^{\circ}C$, $50{\pm}10%$, 0.2m/s, respectively. Two kinds of clothes were used for the experiments: 100% cotton and dox clothes. The clothes were identical in size and form, and the attire consisted of long-sleeved shirts, long trousers, and socks. The experiment was performed for 30 minutes using ergometer. The results are as follows. 1) It showed low skin temperature of forearm, breast, back, forehead and lower leg in exercise, but high skin temperature of them in recovery. However skin temperature of thigh and foot increased from rest to recovery. 2) It showed significant difference (p<0.001, p<0.01) in average skin temperature between cotton and dox clothes. Cotton clothes had a higher average skin temperature compared to dox. Not only was there a significant difference in temperature inside clothing (p<0.001), this was also the case with humidity inside the clothing (p<0.001).
Paraplegia complicating a block of the celiac plexus with alcohol for recurrent stomach cancer is described. A 33 year old male patient was admitted to control for severe epigastric pain. With the patient in prone position, the needle was advanced further than 2 cm on the anterior margin of $L_1$ vertebral body under fluoroscopy. 3 ml of 1% lidocaine and 5 ml of conray were injected through each needle, and the diffusion of the contrast medium was checked, This was followed by 7 ml of pure alcohol and 8 ml of 50% alcohol for each needle. At that time, the patient was very satisfied with loss of abdominal pain. About 30 minutes after injection of alcohol, suddenly patient complained of severe burning pain on back and both extremities. Thereafter, loss of sensation and paralysis in both extremities were developed slowly. The senstivity to cold recovered 3 days after block. By the 33rd day after the block, sensation had recovered in both extremities, the bladder and rectum. Movement of the right ankle joint and left great toe was also possible.
