  • The purpose of this study was to identify preteen girls and their mothers' apparel image preference and apparel purchase behavior. This study was particularly interested in verifying the influencing factors of plus size preteen girls' apparel choice by investigating the correlations between preteens' physical characteristic and their apparel related variables. Data were obtained from the questionnaire by 190 preteen girls and 120 mothers. The influential power of preteens on apparel purchase decision was greater than that of their mothers, and their preferred apparel images were comfortable/neat, cute/girlish, and mature/chic. Comparing to preteen girls, their mothers preferred comfortable/neat and cute/girlish images to mature/chic apparel image. Their physical maturity levels were significantly correlated with apparel image preference. Moreover, plus size preteen girls' interests in appearance and clothing was higher than that of normal weight preteen girls, this implied potentiality in apparel market for plus size preteen.

  • The images signifying flight in modern costumes are not made of one characteristic but the combination of complex meanings. Among the distinctive features some of them are as follows. First, the flying styles found in the costumes showed the birds as agents which sent human spirit to the celestial body. By simplifying the images of the wings connecting the present age with the heavenly body, the transforming emotions towards rhythm, direction, and organic curves transcending the real objectively constitutes a new space for expression. Second, colors appeal directly to man's emotions and incites emotional responses. The flying was shown in lines and colors. By using horizontal , vertical, oblique, and spiral lines and contrasted and paralleled colors, man's desire to fly dwells in newly colored space by reflecting speculative emotion through uniting surface. Third, the flying except for the costumes can be found in the advertisement through model's pose and camera technique, the flying itself is described through model's pose, the materials of the costumes, details, and sustaining stuffs. This symbolizes man's wish towards the unknown world vividly and dynamically. As discussed above the spirit of flying was, when expressed distinctively , in accordance with the varying cultural traits and transitions. The shape made by the vitality of symbolizing flying birds and animals along with the flying in the natural aspects such as wind and cloud were reappeared, simplified and symbolized , in modern costumes as consituting a new modeling space.

DETERMINATION OF LONGISSIMUS MUSCLE AREA IN PIG WITH ULTRASONIC LINEAR ELECTRONIC SCANNER

  • The usefulness of a portable linear electronic scanner. B-mode ultrasonic machine, was evaluated for estimating the longissimus muscle area from ultrasonic measurement of the muscle depth in 22 live pigs. The electronic scanner was easy to operate for muscle measurements in live pigs, which did not have to be held but were caged. The cross-sectional images of longissimus muscle and covering muscles and fat appeared on the monitor with grey scale in real time. It was easy to identify the ultrasonograms of fat and muscular tissues because the images differed in the degree of the grey scale. The longissimus muscle had less echogenic image than the other muscles. The boundary lines between first, second or third layers of backfat and the longissimus muscle were distinct on the ultrasonogram. The ultrasonic measurement at the shoulder was not acceptable because of the unstable measurements and the complex tissue structure. The repeatabilities for the measurements of longissimus muscle depth at one-half body length and last rib were acceptable. The simple correlation coefficients between ultrasonic estimates of the muscle depth in live pigs and the actual areas in the carcass, were 0.50 and 0.55 at the last rib and the one-half body length, respectively. Therefore, those positions were similarly suitable to measure. The method of electronic scanner for determining longissimus muscle area from the muscle depth was suitable for practical use in the field because of the simple and inexpensive technique.

인플래터블 패션의 조형적 특성 연구 (A study on the formative features of the inflatable fashion)

  • This study aims to identify the formative features of inflatable fashion that has changed its form or fulfilled specific functions by inserting air between fabrics or between clothes and the human body. Images of inflatable fashion images after the 1990s were collected from the literature and internet data and were analyzed based on the formative features of inflatable design. Through this analysis, it was determined that there were four formative features of inflatable fashion: First, inflatable fashion has functionality. General fashion also has functionality, but inflatable fashion has expanded functionalities such as an air bag effect or insulation due to injected air. Second, the formative potential. Inflatable fashion can be changed into different forms depending on the amount of air injected. Light-weighted air holds up the material of the clothes. So new forms that are different from conventional fashion, which gives inflatable fashion its formative potential, can be suggested. Third, aesthetic expansion. Inflatable fashion when its volume is expanded expresses the beauty of scale, or expresses a voluptuous beauty when part of human body is exaggerated. Fourth, it has an unconstructive characteristic. Space that is visible due to the transparent material of inflatable fashion expresses the intention of the designer to fulfill an unconstructive concept. In conclusion, the formative features of inflatable design have formative significances : practicality, aesthetic significance, semantics and technical significance.

Semiautomatic 3D Virtual Fish Modeling based on 2D Texture

  • In the field of Virtual Reality, many studies have been reported. Especially, there are many studies on generating virtual creatures on computer systems. In this paper we propose an algorithm to automatically generate 3D fish models from 2D images which are printed in illustrated books, pictures or handwritings. At first, 2D fish images are captured by means of image scanner. Next, the fish image is separated from background and segmented to several parts such as body, anal fin, dorsal fin, ectoral fin and ventral fin using the proposed method“Active Balloon model”. After that, users choose front view model and top view model among six samples, respectively. 3D model is automatically generated from separated body, fins and the above two view models. The number of patches is decreased without any influence on the accuracy of the generated 3D model to reduce the time cost when texture mapping is applied. Finally, we can get any kinds of 3D fish models.

현대패션에 나타난 레드의상의 미적특성에 관한 연구 (The Aesthetic Characteristics of a Red Costumes in Contemporary Fashion)

  • This study examines the unique characteristics of the color red in relation to images used in areas other than fashion, such as the film or advertising industries. Based on analysed results, the aim was to identify red-colored costume's images expressed in contemporary fashion. Analysis of collected data has lead to four main findings. First, the fashion in which the red color is used delivers a voluptuous image when combined with a skinny silhouette or glossy and transparent dress material, arousing a strong sexual desire in a direct or indirect manner when exposing the body in public. Second, the fashion emphasizes a simplified appearance by minimizing the steps of the production process such as cutting, sewing, and decoration without artificial structural lines and creates an image of simplicity through a single red color or tone-in-tone colorations. Third, the red color, which carries a simultaneous negative and pleasure image represents grotesque playfulness by distorting or exaggerating clothes, transforming the body in disregard of clothing construction, or introducing unnatural makeup. Fourth, in combination of simple and clinging shapes, a material feeling tough like leather and an intensely noticeable red tone, promotes the feminine rather than masculine quality in a splendid, aggressive sporty and active "alpha girl" image.

갑상선 암 환장서 기관지 편이 정도를 평가하는 방법의 연구 (Evaluation of Tracheal Deviation in Patients with Thyroid Cancer)

  • Background: Tracheal deviations are encountered frequently in head and neck tumors especially in thyroid cancer. Dyspnea and stridor are symptom calling for surgery. The method of evaluation in tracheal deviation is not well established yet. This paper is aimed to suggest objective tools to evaluate tracheal deviation in relation to cervical vertebra. Material and Method: Ten cases of thyroid cancers were recruited retrospectively. Tracheal inner shadow and shape of cervical vertebra were reconstructed three dimensionally using 3D-doctor to compare position of trachea in relation to vertebral body. Extent of deviation was scored in relation to both lateral borders of vertebral body. Angles between trachea and spinous process were measured in axial CT and compared between study group and control group. Results: Deviation scores were statistically significant between study group (mean=1.1) and control group (mean=0) (p=0.0008). Deviation angles at maximal tumor size in study group (mean=160.3 Degrees) and deviation angles of control group (mean=177.1 Degrees) were statistically significant (p=0.0007). Angles at maximal deviation of three dimensional images ages in study group (mean=162.6 Degrees) and deviation angles of control group (mean=177.1 Degrees) were statistically significant (p=0.0089). Conclusion: Tracheal deviation can be evaluated using scoring of three dimensional images and measuring angle between trachea and vertebral spine.

Magnetic Resonance Findings of a Canine Benign Uveal Melanocytoma

  • A 13-year-old spayed female Beagle dog was referred with high intraocular pressure, hyperemia, and exophthalmos of the left eye and underwent ultrasound, which revealed a mass in the ciliary body of the left eye. Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging was ordered to evaluate invasion of surrounding structures and metastasis to the brain via the optic nerve. On MR imaging, a single, well-defined, smoothly marginated, triangular-to-oval-shaped mass was found. The mass was hyperintense on T1-weighted images and hypointense on T2-weighted images, similar to a previous case of ocular melanoma. The mass originated from the ciliary body and extended from the anterior chamber to the posterior chamber. Slight enhancement was observed in the mass. There was no evidence of invasion into surrounding structures or the optic nerve, and no sign of metastasis to the brain. The mass was histopathologically diagnosed as benign uveal melanocytoma.

디지털 게임에 나타난 포스트휴먼 캐릭터 분석 (An Analysis of Posthuman Characters in Digital Games)

  • 본 연구는 디지털 게임에 나타난 포스트휴먼 캐릭터의 신체 이미지와 게임 플레이를 통해 형성되는 유목적 주체를 분석했다. 유목적 주체란 복합적이고 단일하지 않은 정체성을 지닌 주체로 포스트휴먼 정체성으로 나타난다. 최근 디지털 게임에서 포스트휴먼 신체를 가진 캐릭터가 나타나고 있으며, 플레이어가 캐릭터를 직접 조작하는 과정에서 포스트휴먼을 직접적으로 경험하게 된다. 포스트휴먼 캐릭터의 신체 이미지는 이상화된 신체를 모방하는 유형, 절합을 통해서 신체를 변형하는 유형, 장비를 통해서 신체를 확장하는 유형으로 구분된다. 플레이어는 게임의 제약 아래 선택을 통해서 분기형 서사를 진행해 나가면서 윤리적 정체성을 구축하게 된다.

실루엣 기반 걸음걸이 인식 방법에서 동적 단서의 중요성 (Importance of Dynamic Cue in Silhouette-Based Gait Recognition)

  • 최근 생체 인식 기술의 하나로, 걸음걸이 인식에 대한 관심이 크게 증가하고 있다. 실루엣기반 걸음걸이 인식은 걸음걸이 인식을 위한 가장 보편적인 방법으로, 본 논문에서는 실루엣 기반 걸음걸이 인식에서 걸음걸이의 특성을 결정하는 정보에 대해 분석한다. 걸음걸이는 크게, 정적인 신체 모양(static body shape)과 동적인 신체 운동(dynamic body motion), 두 가지 단서(cue)에 의해 표현될 수 있다. 최근, 걸음걸이의 특성은 신체 모양과 관련된 정적인 단서에 의해 주로 결정되며 신체 운동과 관련된 동적인 단서는 걸음걸이의 특성에 거의 영향을 주지 않는다는 연구들이 보고되고 있다. 이와 달리, 본 논문에서는 신체운동과 관련된 동적인 단서 역시 걸음걸이의 특성을 결정짓는 중요한 요소라고 판단하여 이를 실험적으로 검증하고자 한다. 이를 위해, 크게 두 개의 걸음걸이 데이터베이스(UBC DB, Southampton Small DB)를 이용하여 실험을 수행하였다. UBC DB는 보편적인 걸음걸이를 저장한 것이고, Southampton DB는 다른 종류의 옷이나 신발, 가방을 착용하거나, 걸음걸이의 속도를 바꾸는 등 보편적인 걸음걸이와 다른 특성을 가지는 걸음걸이를 저장한 것이다. 실험 결과, 인식률은 UBC DB에서 신체 모양을 이용할 경우 $100\%$, 신체 운동을 이용할 경우 $95.2\%$이고, Southampton DB에서는 신체 모양을 이용할 경우 $50.0\%$, 신체 운동을 이용할 경우 $55.8\%$이다. 잘못된 인식을 할 위험도(risk)는 UBC DB에서는 신체 모양을 이용할 경우 0.91, 신체 운동을 이용할 경우 0.97, Southampton DB에서는 신체 모양을 이용할 경우 0.98, 신체 운동을 이용할 경우 0.98이다. 결과적으로, 보편적인 걸음걸이의 특성은 신체 모양과 관련된 정적인 단서에 의해 주로 결정되지만, 옷이나 가방 등에 의해 가장된(disguised) 걸음걸이에서는 신체 운동과 관련된 동적인 단서에 의해 주로 결정된다.
