Analysis of body shape and anthropometric measurements of US middle-aged women using 3D body scan data

  • The apparel industry has recently been recognizing the important target market of middle-aged women. The aim of this study was to examine the anthropometric characteristics of US women of 46 to 65 years of age and identify distinctive body shape characteristics of US middle-aged women. A total of 1915 middle-aged women whose ages ranged from 46 to 65 were selected from the SizeUSA database. The age range was divided into two groups: 46-55 and 56-65. Twenty-four body measurements important for apparel development were chosen. Four factors-Girth Factor, Height Factor, Hip Drop Factor, and Bust Drop Factor-accounted for the US middle-aged women's body measurements. The body shapes were classified into four body shapes, which were Y-Shape in the overweight range, S-Shape in the overweight range, H-Shape in the overweight range, and the A-Shape in obese range. H-Shape, which was the least-defined waist in relation to the bust and hips with a short height, existed more in older middle-aged women than in younger middle-aged women. Y-Shape, S-Shape, and A-Shape existed more in the group of younger middle-aged women than in the group of older middle-aged women. In addition, compared with the younger middle-aged women, older middle-aged women had narrower shoulders, a larger waist, thinner legs, and a longer distance between side neck to bust point. The findings from the current study may be applied in the apparel industry for developing clothing sizing systems for US middle-aged women.

  • 전신성 림프관종증은 림프관의 드문 선천성 기형이다. CT와 MR 영상은 림프관종 진단에 이용되고 있고 액체로 가득찬 다낭성의 큰 종괴로 보이고 이러한 영상 소견으로 림프관종과 다양한 혈관 질환을 감별하는 데 도움이 된다. 저자는 전신성 림프관종증 환자의 CT, MR영상과 방사선 동위원소 영상소견을 보고한다. STIR 영상 연쇄 기법을 이용한 전신 3.0-T MR 영상은 고해상도 다른 영상 장비에서 진단하지 못한 부가적인 병변을 발견할 수 있었다. 저자는 전신 3.0T MR 영상이 전신성 림프관종증 환자의 침범정도 평가나 추적관찰에 유용한 진단 장비라고 생각한다.

Comparison of accuracy between digital and conventional implant impressions: two and three dimensional evaluations

  • PURPOSE. The present study compared the accuracy between digital and conventional implant impressions. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The experimental models were divided into six groups depending on the implant location and the scanning span. Digital impressions were captured using the intraoral optical scanner TRIOS (3Shape, Copenhagen, Denmark). Conventional impressions were taken with the monophase impression material based on addition-cured silicones, Honigum-Mono (DMG, Hamburg, Germany). A high-precision laboratory scanner D900 (3Shape, Copenhagen, Denmark) was used to obtain digital data of resin models and stone casts. Surface tessellation language (STL) datasets from scanner were imported into the analysis software Geomagic Qualify 14 (3D Systems, Rock Hill, SC, USA), and scan body deviations were determined through two-dimensional and three-dimensional analyses. Each scan body was measured five times. The Sidak t test was used to analyze the experimental data. RESULTS. Implant position and scanning distance affected the impression accuracy. For a unilateral arch implant and the mandible models with two implants, no significant difference was observed in the accuracy between the digital and conventional implant impressions on scan bodies; however, the corresponding differences for trans-arch implants and mandible with six implants were extremely significant (P<.001). CONCLUSION. For short-span scanning, the accuracy of digital and conventional implant impressions did not differ significantly. For long-span scanning, the precision of digital impressions was significantly inferior to that of the traditional impressions.

  • In this paper, an interleaved spiral scan imaging is investigated for an ultra fast MR imaging. The interleaved spiral technique has relative advantage over single shot spiral imaging with improved resolution and less inhomogeneity-related artifact. An improved reconstruction algorithm is devised with DC-offset correction. Some preliminary experimental results are shown at 1.0 Tesla and 3.0 Tesla whole body MRI system.

  • The early stage of 3D anthropometry data has been used to obtain qualitative rather than quantitative information. However recent 3D body scanners as a common research tool for anthropormatric measurments have made it possible to obtain body surface data of sufficient resolution and accuracy. The purpose of this study is finally to develop motorcycle jacket for enhanced comfort and fit, to test the accuracy and reliability of 3D measurments of motorcycle riding posture, and to analyze the change in 20's adult male's body surface measurements between the standard anthropometric position and motorcycle riding posture. The results of this study were as follows: There were no significant differences between the study and Size Korea measurments in total traditional measuring items and most of measuring items, such as length, circumference antropometric items and interscye items though not waist back length and upper arm circumference. A comparison of 3D body surface measurments in the two different measuring postures, the bodysurface measurments such as waist front length, biacromion length, front interscye, arm length, underarm length in the motorcycle riding posture decreased than that in basic posture, whereas waist back length, back interscye, C.T.W length increased. The body surface measurments such as chest, bust, upper circumference in the motorcycle riding posture decreased than that in basic posture, whereas neck, waist, hip, elbow circumference increased.

3차원 바디 스캐너를 활용한 가상착의에 관한 인식 조사 - 업체 실무자 및 소비자를 대상으로 - (A Study of Applications of 3D Body Scanning Technology - Focused on Apparel Industry -)

  • The ultimate success of commercial applications of body scan data in the apparel industry will be consumers' substantial applications such as automated custom fit, size prediction, virtual try-on, personal shopper services (Loker, S. et al., 2004). In this study, we surveyed fifty consumers and forty-seven apparel industry workers about their recognition and interest in 3D body scanning and virtual try-on. The results are as follows: 55% of the apparel industry workers has recognized 3D body scanning as a convenient technology, but do not know how to use it. To the questions regarding virtual try-on, 53% of the workers give positive answers. The consumers have a more positive view on virtual try-on than the workers do. The workers predict that the application of 3D body scan technology to the apparel industry could offer customers helpful information in their clothing selection by using virtual images of various size and style, and increase mass production of MTM(Made-To-Measure). The answers from the male consumers in their twenties indicate that virtual try-on is useful by 88% on offline shopping and by 100% on online shopping. 53% of the workers and 68% of the consumers gave answers that just by virtual try-on they could judge the quality of the apparel products and purchase them. Absolutely 3D virtual try-on is an effective tool for online shoppers. 85% of the workers anticipate applications of the 3D body scanning also in 'body measurement', 'custom pattern development' as well as 'virtual try-on' in the near future. With the positive reactions and the stimulating interests in virtual try-on, the conditions of contemporary world encourage more active researches and wide usages of the technology in apparel industry.

속립성 결핵의 $^{67}Gallium$ Scan 소견 ($^{67}Gallium$ Scan Findings in Miliary Tuberculosis)

  • Miliary Tuberculosis is an illness produced by acute dissemination of tubercle bacilli via the blood stream. In chest roentgenogram, a diffuse "miliary" infiltrates are usually seen, but normal or suspicious ground glass pattern also can be seen in early manifestation. Ten patients of miliary tuberculosis who underwent whole-body $^{67}Ga-citrate$ scintigraphy were evaluated retrospectively to study usefulness of Ga-scan for early diagnosis of miliary Tbc and evaluation of disease activity. All of ten patients demonstrated significantly diffuse bilateral pulmonary uptakes on 48 hours image. All of three patients of ground-glass pattern in chest roentgemogram also demonstrated increased uptakes. In the statistical analysis, the severity of chest roentgenographic findings showed positive correlation with the activity on Ga?scan. These results suggest that Gallium scan is useful for diagnosis of early miliary tuberculosis and for evaluation of disease activity on follow-up examination of miliary tuberculosis of lung.

골주사를 이용한 사교상(Snake bite) 환자의 경과 관찰 2예 보고 (Two Cases of Bone Scan in Snake Bite)

  • It is very difficult to check the severity and clinical course of the toxicity in snake bite patients by virtes of clinical manifestation and laboratory tests. And we observed the. findings of bone scan with 99mTc-MDP in two snake bite patients. First patient was bitten in the right ankle with local pain and swelling. The finding of bone scan of him was increased uptake of radionuclide in the soft tissue of right leg and thigh. Others were normal findings. Second patient was bitten in the right hand. But his symptom was severe and he complained local pain and swelling, nausea, blurred vision, and oliguria. The bone scan findings of second patient was; Increased uptake of radionuclide in the soft tissue of whole body. Decreased uptake in the bone tissue. Renal outline was not delineated. Follow up study 10 days after, revealed more improved findings in the scan.

Lower-body figure analysis of Chinese adult women

  • To determine the parameters to be considered when designing lower-body apparel, we analyzed the lower-body figures of adult women in their early 20s from Shanghai, China, using 3-dimensional whole body scanner. Thirty-nine lower-body-related measurements were used to analyze the figures of 210 Chinese women. Obesity and height of the lower body, length from waist to crotch, shape of abdomen, and leg bone length were analyzed. Factor analysis was performed and the results were classified into three clusters. The first cluster describes the obesity of the lower body, the second denotes small hip measurement, and the third describes slim and long legs. This is the first study to quantify figure analysis of the lower body of Chinese women using 3-dimensional body measurements. The findings of this study will provide concrete information regarding crotch width, crotch length, inseam, outseam, waist slope, etc., for designing trouser patterns for Chinese adult women.

유방암 환자에서 전신 뼈 검사 후 감시림프절 위치 파악 검사의 유용성 (Usefulness of Breast Lymphoscintigraphy after Whole Body Bone Scan)

  • 유방암은 다른 장기에 비하여 뼈 전이와 임파절 전이가 잘 일어나는 질환으로 알려져 있으며, 유방암 수술 전, 후로 핵의학 검사인 전신 뼈 검사와 감시림프절 검사가 많이 시행되고 있다. 감시림프절 위치 파악 검사는 감시림프절에 정확 위치를 파악을 위해 시행되며, 유방암 수술 시 감시림프절을 파악 하는데 중요한 정보를 제공해 주게 된다. 본 연구에서는 감시림프절 위치 파악 검사 시 해부학적인 위치정보를 좀 더 명확하게 하기 위해 감시림프절 위치 파악 검사 전날 전신 뼈 검사를 시행하여 기존에 Flood 선원을 이용한 방법과 비교 평가하여 영상의 유용성에대해 알아보고자 하였다. 2009년 1월부터 12월까지 본원에서 전신 뼈 검사와 감시 림프절 검사를 2일에 걸쳐 시행한 환자 22명(평균나이 $52{\pm}7.2$세)을 대상으로 하였고, 대조군으로는 $^{57}Co$ flood phantom을 이용하여 감시림프절에 위치를 파악한 환자 22명(평균나이 $57{\pm}6.5$세)을 대상으로 하였다. 정량적인 분석 방법으로 전신 뼈 검사 후에 감시림프절 검사를 시행한 영상에 감시림프절과 배후방사능에 관심영역을 그려 상대적 비율을 측정하였으며, 육안적인 분석 방법으로 전신 뼈 검사 후 감시림프절 검사를 진행한 영상과 $^{57}Co$ flood phantom을 이용한 영상을 핵의학과 전문의와 5년 이상의 실무경험을 가진 방사선사가 각각 5점 척도로 하여, Blind test하였다. 정량적인 분석 결과 감시림프절에 대해 배후방사능이 미치는 영향은 전면상에서 최대 14.2:1, 평균 8:1(SD${\pm}$3.48), 측면상에서 최대 14.7:1, 평균 8.5:1(SD${\pm}$3.42)값으로 감시림프절에 대해 배후방사능에 차이가 크게 나타났고, 전면상과 측면상에서도 큰 차이가 없었다. 육안적인 분석 결과 $^{57}Co$ flood phantom 영상과 뼈가 포함된 영상을 비교한 결과 $^{57}Co$ flood phantom 영상 $3.86{\pm}0.35$점, 뼈 영상이 $4.09{\pm}0.42$점으로 $^{57}Co$ flood phantom 영상 보다 높은 점수를 나타내었다. 감시림프절 위치 파악 검사에 경우 검사 전날 전신 뼈 검사를 진행하였을 때에 뼈의 배후방사능과 감시 림프절에 비율차이가 평균 8:1 이상으로 림프절에 위치를 파악 하는데 문제가 없었다. 또한 전신 뼈 영상을 체표윤곽도로 이용하게 되면, 다른 선원을 이용하지 않고도 감시림프절에 위치정보를 나타낼 수 있어서 술자와 환자의 불필요한 피폭을 방지하며, 영상의 질적 향상을 기대할 수 있을 것으로 사료 된다.
