  • In this paper, a problem of mechanical resonance between traction motor's rigid body mode and traction motor's excitation force is introduced, and a bogie design variable affecting the control of resonance response is reviewed numerically. To solve the resonance problem in rotating machinery with variable rotational speeds, resonance frequency should be out of rotational machine's operation range or dynamic stiffness of structures should be increased for resonance response enough to be low. In general, operation range of a traction motor is from 0 r/min to 4800 r/min. It is not possible that all bogie modes are more than 80 Hz. Therefore, it is very important to find design factor affecting resonance response of traction motor's rigid body modes. It is found that key design variable is the gab between transom pipes from finite element analysis. The larger gab is, the higher resonance response when resonance between traction motor's excitation force and traction motor's rigid body mode is happened.

  • Simple spring-damper-mass models have been widely used to investigate whole-body vortical biodynamic response characteristics of the seated vehicle driver. Most previous models have not considered the effect of wobbling masses; i.e. heart, lungs, liver, intestine, etc. In this study, 4 -DOF seated driver model including one non-rigid mass representing wobbling visceral mass, 5-DOF model including intestine, and 10-DOF model including five lumbar vertebral masses were proposed. The model parameters were identified by a combinatorial optimization technique. simulated annealing method. The objective function was chosen as the sum of error between model response of seat-to-head transmissibility and driving point mechanical impedance and those of experimental data for subjects seated erect without backrest support. The model response showed a good agreement with the experimental response characteristics. Using a 10-DOF model, calculated resonance frequency of lumbar spine at 4Hz was matched well with experimental results of Panjabi et al.

  • Objectives: To determine whether the body weight, body mass index (BMI), and basal serum level of LH, FSH, testosterone (T), dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S) are related to the ovarian response to clomiphene citrate (CC) in patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Materials and Method: From January 1996 to June 1997, total 57 patients with PCOS were enrolled in the present study. Women who had other infertility factors were excluded from our study. The ovulation induction using CC was used in all patients. The patients were grouped into 50 mg group, 100 mg group, and 150 mg group according to their daily CC dose. The patients were also grouped to ovulatory and non-ovulatory group. The body weight, BMI, and basal serum level of LH, FSH, T, DHEA-S were measured in all patients on the 2nd or 3rd day of the menstrual cycle. Results were analysed with Student's t-test and Fisher's exact test. Results: The body weight and BMI of the nonovulating group were significantly higher than those of the ovulating group in all groups (50, 100, 150 mg of CC). However, there were no significant differences of the level of LH and FSH between ovulating and nonovulating groups in all CC groups (50, 100, 150 mg). The level of T of nonovulating group was significantly higher in 50 and 100 mg of CC groups, but not in 150 mg group. The level of DHEA-S of the non-ovulating group is significantly higher in 50 mg group, but not in 100 and 150 mg groups. Conclusion: The body weight and BMI could be useful predictors of ovarian response to CC in patients with PCOS, and basal T and DHEA-S also might be useful in cases of low-dose CC treatment.

  • This paper experimentally deals with the excitation by functional electrical stimulus(FES) and the response of electromyo-potential at the muscles of antebrachial joint in a human body. The excitation of FES, which results in the contraction of the muscles and thus the flection of the joint, shows that the flection angle of the joint is proportional to the magnitude of the stimulus current. The response of electromyo-potential measured according to the FES shows the linearly-proportional relation between the joint torque and the electromyo-potential. The results can be used for active motion of joint rehabilitation.

  • Targeting a floating wave and offshore wind hybrid power generation system (FWWHybrid) designed in the Republic of Korea, this study examines the impact of the interaction, with multiple wave energy converters (WECs) placed on the platform, on platform motion. To investigate how the motion of WECs affects the behavior of the FWWHybrid platform, it was numerically compared with a scenario involving a 'single-body' system, where multiple WECs are constrained to the platform. In the case of FWWHybrid, because the platform and multiple WECs move in response to waves simultaneously as a 'multi-body' system, hydrodynamic interactions between these entities come into play. Additionally, the power take-off (PTO) mechanism between the platform and individual WECs is introduced for power production. First, the hydrostatic/dynamic coefficients required for numerical analysis were calculated in the frequency domain and then used in the time domain analysis. These simulations are performed using the extended HARP/CHARM3D code developed from previous studies. By conducting regular wave simulations, the response amplitude operator (RAO) for the platform of both single-body and multi-body scenarios was derived and subsequently compared. Next, to ascertain the difference in response in the real sea environment, this study also includes an analysis of irregular waves. As the floating body maintains its position through connection to a catenary mooring line, the impact of the slowly varying wave drift load cannot be disregarded. To assess the influence of the 2nd-order wave exciting load, irregular wave simulations were conducted, dividing them into cases where it was not considered and cases where it was included. The analysis of multi-degree-of-freedom behavior confirmed that the action of multiple WECs had a substantial impact on the platform's response.

  • The effects of perilla oil diet on the immune response in mice have been studied. ICR male mice were divided into 4 groups and were fed on the experimental diet for 4 weeks. Mice were sensitized and challenged with sheep red blood cell (S-RBC). Immune response were evaluated by antibody production, Arthus reaction, delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH), Rosette forming cell (RFC) and macrophage activity. The weight of body, liver, thymus and spleen were measured. The body weight was increased but thymus weight was not altered by them. The perilla oil diet decreased the weight of liver and spleen in mice. It reduced antibody production, Arthus reaction, DTH and RFC, macrophage activity. These results showed that the high perilla oil diet decresed more humoral and celluar immune response than the low perilla oil diet. It decreased the phagocytic activity on the reticuloendothelial system in mice.

  • In order to investigate experimentally the effects of $So{\breve{u}}m$-In Bojungikit'ang and Dong-Won Bojungikit'ang on Yang-Insufficient syndrome(陽虛證) induced by Hydrocortisone acetate(HA) in experimental animals(Mice and Rats), the author experimented with various activities. Body temperature(BT), Body weight(BW), Exercise time, Cyclic-AMP, the Ra's Hair condition was measured. The results obtained are as follows : 1. In body temperature, the Dong-Won Bojungiki'ang treated group was increased significantly and the $So{\breve{u}}m$-In Bojungikit'ang treated group showed no significance. 2. In body weight, the $So{\breve{u}}m$-In Bojungikit'ang treated group had increased significantly and the Dong-Won Bojungikit'ang treated group showed no significance and there was a significant difference between the $So{\breve{u}}m$-In Bojungikit'ang and the Dong-Won Bojungikit'ang. 3. In exercise time. the $So{\breve{u}}m$-In Bojungikit'ang and the Dong-Won Bojungikit'ang treated groups were significantly increased. 4. In cyclic AMP, both experimental groups showed increasing tendancy, but showed no significance. 5. In the Rat' s hair condition. the $So{\breve{u}}m$-In Bojungikit'ang showed significance. 6. There was no significant difference between the $So{\breve{u}}m$-In Bojungikit'ang and the Dong-Won Bojungikitang except the body weight. from the above findings. (1) it has been demonstrated thet the $So{\breve{u}}m$-In Bojungikit'ang and Dong-Won Bojungikit'ang groups seem to produce the effecticeness on the recovery from depression of metabolism induced by Bydrocortisone acetate. (2) In body temperature response the Dong-Won Bojungikit'ang had effectiveness during recovery. (3) In body weight response the $So{\breve{u}}m$-In Bojungikit'ang had the effecticeness during recovery. (4) In exercise time. Both experimental group had the effectiveness during recovery. (5) In cyclic AMP response. both experimental group had no effectiveness during recovery. (6) In the Rat's hair condition response the $So{\breve{u}}m$-In Bojungikit'ang group had the effectiveness during recovery. Therefore in is suggested theat the $So{\breve{u}}m$-In Bojungikit'ang and Dong-Won Bojungikit'ang groups had effecticeness during recovery from Yang-Insufficient syndrome more of less.

  • Anti-aging is one of the key words to have characterized Korean society, and Korean adults in their 40s and 50s are very interested in this word. In this study, their cognitive ages and body images which are expected to have been influenced by anti-ageing were determined and correlation between them was examined. A survey was conducted and 368 of 500 questionnaires were used in data analysis. Data were analyzed by descriptives, factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple response analysis through SPSS 12.0. The results are as follows. First, the cognitive ages of Korean adults in their 40s and 50s showed to be 37.5 years old which are 9.1 years old younger than their average actual ages. Second, their attitudinal body images appeared to be composed of appearance orientation and appearance evaluation, and appearance orientation represented to be a little higher than appearance evaluation. In addition, it showed that the correlation between cognitive ages and the attitudinal body images was low and negative. Third, people in their 40s and 50s revealed to think good health and impression as ideal body images. It was found that they regarded a face as the most important body part for ideal body images and were sensitive of their weight. Forth, correlation between cognitive ages and variables of ideal body images was identified to be significant in 4 variables which are slender, shapely and slim figure and good body proportions. In conclusion, it was shown that Korean adults in their 40s and 50s recognized themselves to be 9.1 years old younger and, the younger they perceive themselves, the younger body images they want. Also, it could be confirmed that anti-ageing is a megatrend in Korean society.
