We fabricated acrylamie photopolymer holographic recording materials by photopolymerization of acrylamide, and described hologram formation process. Light absorption and phtobleaching process by MB(methylene blue) dye and radical polymerization process due to TEA(triethanolamind) are explained in detail. We adopted the Beer-lambert law in order to explain the photobleaching kinetics. Dependencies of diffraction efficiency of the hologram on monomer amout and the exposure are investigated. The scattering effect caused by grain of polymer crystal, and fixing method are also illustrated.

We present test results of time-series CCD photometry to investigate the photometric precision of the BOAO (Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory) 1.8m telescope. A well-known field of the old open cluster M67, which includes two pulsating blue stragglers and two W UMa type binaries, was monitored for 3.5 hours on February 22, 1996. We have collected 148 V frames and 3 B frames. Photometric noises which consist mainly of photon noise and scintillation noise, were lowered down to about 1.9 mmag for stars of $10.\;^m5$ in M67 with exposure time of 20 seconds. From the C-M diagram for M67, a number of observational properties were derived; E(B-V) = 0.03, (V-Mv)o = 9.6, Age = 4 Gyr. We obtained light curves for four known variable stars and confirmed their variational characteristics. The pulsating blue stragglers show a low amplitude (about 0.01 mag) of light variation.

Blue light of Cherenkov radiation generated by electrons in transparent substances such as water and acrylic resin is well known generally. If students can easily observe the blue light at school, they may be impressed by the fascinating radiation. Four years ago, management of the Co-60 unit for radiotherapy was transferred to Nagoya University School of Health Sciences from a related hospital. We have examined whether or not the Cherenkov radiation in water from secondary electrons generated by Co-60 gamma-rays can be safely observed by eyes and photographs. First, the Cherenkov radiation in the water tank was led to the corridor outside the irradiation room by a mirror, and observed directly without any effect of the radiation exposure. Second, photographs of the Cherenkov radiation were taken under the conditions consisted of several irradiation fields and pass lengths of gamma-rays in water.
To investigate the deterioration of textiles with metal thread, I surveyed 40 textile objects, dating from the 11th to the 19th century from Korea, China, Japan, and Central Asia at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. This survey included various types, widths, and thicknesses of metal thread. In addition, deterioration was examined under the microscope and color information was collected using the spectrophotometer. While investigating metal thread in the collections, I fabricated 12 different types of metal samples with metal leaf(24K gold, silver, and copper leaf), adhesive (hide animal glue and a mixture of hide animal glue and iron oxide red), and paper substrate(Korean mulberry and Taiwanese kozo paper). The accelerated deterioration process of those fabricated samples was carried out using a light box(UV and daylight), and a humidity cabinet. In the light experiment with blue scales textile fading card(aka, blue wool standard), the metal leaf began to peel off during the deterioration process with 756,000 lux-hours UV and daylight. In the temperature and humidity experiment, I could observe the reddish tarnish on copper, and some part of it began to peel off. Color reading on the light exposed samples showed that the degree of color change on the surface follows the amount of exposure as it increased over time. On the other hand, color change on the samples after artificial deterioration using temperature and humidity factors showed random change of color with occasional spikes. Distortion of original shape worsened in the samples exposed to temperature and humidity.
This study was designed to elucidate the distribution of the immunoglobulins in the experimentally induced rat periapical lesions. The pulp exposure was performed in 80 molars from 40 rats and the animals were sacrificed at 15, 30, 60 and 90 days after the operation and examined and radiographed. Of the 80 samples, 56 samples were routinely sectioned ($4-6{\mu}$ in thickness) and stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin for the light microscopic examination and 50 samples were stained with toluidin blue for mast cells and 50 samples were stained using the Avidin-Biotin horseradish peroxidase for detecting the presence of Ig A, Ig E, Ig M and Ig G containing cells. The following results were obtained : 1. The periapical lesions could be observed in all of 80 teeth by radiogragh (100%) and the periapical lesions were detected in 50 samples of 51 samples by light microscopy (98%). The size of lesions increased with time lapse both by radiograph and by light microscopy(p<0.05). 2. Of the 50 samples, 19 samples were diagnosed as periapical abscesses, 18 as periapical granulomas, 10 as fibrous scar tissues and 3 cysts. 3. After pulp exposure, periapical granulomas were developed mostly in the 15 day group, with time lapse periapical abscesses and fibrous scar tissues increased. 4. In the 50 periapical lesions, the numbers of Ig G containing cell (57.2%) were prominent and the percentage of Ig A, Ig E and Ig M containing cells were 16.4%, 14.7% and 11.8% respectively. The numbers of all classes of immunoglobulin containing cell were highest in the periapical granulomas and lowest in the cysts(p<0.05). 5. The number of the mast cell and immunoglobulin containing cells decreased generally with time lapse after the pulp exposure and Ig A, Ig E, Ig M and Ig G containing cells and mast cells had the high correlation one another(>0.6).
For a long time Rhus vemiciflua Stokes (RVS) has been traditionally used as a herbal plant in Asia. In this study, we have investigated the effect of acetone extract of Rhus verniciflua Stokes (RVSE) and fisetin, a component of RVSE, on DNA damage response in NIH3T3 cells. Exposure of cells to DVB light $(200 J/m^2)$ and postincubation in growth medium for 48 hr resulted in a decrease of cell viability to about $10-20\%$ of nontreated control. Addition of various concentrations of RVSE in the postincubation medium, however, significantly increased the cell viability as compared with the values expected. The genotoxicity-decreasing effect was also demonstrated in cells exposed to UVB light and incubated in medium containing fisetin. The genotoxicity-decreasing effect of RVSE and fisetin was further demonstrated by various analyses including cell morphology studies, trypan blue exclusion assay and DAPI staining. By Annexin V binding analysis, RVSE and fisetin were shown to decrease the early apoptosis induced by UVB exposure. These results suggest the RVSE contain components that either increase the DNA repair or decrease the apoptosis in UVB-exposed cells.
To prevent the food poisoning originated by consumption of shellfish contaminated with domoic acid, the quantitative analysis of domoic acid is to be very important. The stability of domoic acid at different temperature, pH and light was investigated using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The mean recoveries of domoic acid in the methanol extracts from oyster (Crassostrea gigas), blue mussel (Mytilus edulis), short neck clam (Ruditapes philippinarum) and ark shell (Scapharca broughtonii) were 85.4-104.5%, 94.8-101.2%, 91.0-104.6%, and 95.7-109.6%, respectively. The working solutions of domoic acid standard were very stable for one month at $-18^{\circ}C$, $4^{\circ}C$, and room temperature. And domoic acid in the methanol extract from oyster was stable for a day at $4^{\circ}C$ and room temperature, and for a week at $-18^{\circ}C$. Therefore, this implies that quantitative analysis for domoic acid must consider the storage conditions of the standard solutions and the methanol extracts from shellfish. The standard solutions adjusted to pH 3-9 were also stable after heating at $121^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. The effect of light exposure on domoic acid was tested by exposing the methanol extracts to light. Domoic acid degraded slowly when the samples were kept in the dark (brown vial). However, following the light exposure the photodegradation became more rapid; no detectable domoic acid remained in $1.0{\mu}g/mL$ of methanol extract after 5 hours.

The objective of this study was to analyze the pattern recognition of volatile compounds from different types of milk under LED (Light Emitting Dioxide) irradiation for 6 d. Yellow, red, blue, dark, and fluorescent light were produced using LED equipment. A mass spectrometry-based electronic nose and DFA (discriminant function analysis) were used to determine the change in volatiles from different types of milk under LED irradiation. As the LED exposure time was increased, DF1 of whole milk changed considerably under blue light, while that of skim milk changed significantly under red and yellow light irradiation. Among the types of milk tested, the most light-induced oxidation sample was LTLT milk under blue light. The volatile compounds that were shown to increase due to LED treatment in the electronic nose analysis, which was based on MS, were mainly acetaldehyde, propanal, pentanal, hexanal, heptanal, nonanal, 3-methyl butanal, 2-methyl propanal, 2-butanone, 2-pentanone, 2-hexanone, and 2-heptanaone and 2-nonanone.
In an attempt to find a satisfactory environmental factors which facilitate abundant conidial production of Piriculariaoryzae Cav. on tomato juice media, various environmental factors were studied for their effect on sporulation and mycelial growth of the fungus. Those factors were conditions of irradiation, color of light, age of culture and pH of the media. l) Continuous exposure to fluorescent light (Mitsubish FL-20-35 W) produced more conidia and much mycelial growth than did intermittent photoperiods and darkness. 2) Of 3 cellophane filters and direct exposure to fluorescent light used, conidia were produced best under the direct exposure to the light. Conidial production in color filter conditions sequently decreased with red, yellow and blue. Growth of mycelium was not significantly different within colors. 3) Periodic irradiation of 12-hour unit brought about zones on mycelial growth no matter what the color filter was used. 4) Older cultures responding to the light were more stimulated by light than were the younger one in the conidia production, but maximum production of conidia was 48 hours of age in this case. 5) Color of the mycelial mat and the aerial mycelium seemed to have a close relation to the production of conidia. The more darkness of the mycelial mat was produced the more conidia and the much aerial mycelium was produced the least conidia. The color of mycelium was more dark under the continuous irradiation than continuous darkness, while the periodic irradiation showed intermediate effect. 6) The concentration of hydrogen ion for growth and sporulation of the fungus was investigated the ranges between 5 and 9. The best pH for the fungus was also noted at 7. whereas the below of pH 4 was not occurred any mycelial growth and sporulation.
The olfactory organs of two African lungfishes, Protopterus amphibius and P. dolloi, were investigated using a stereo microscope and a compound light microscope and were described anatomically, histologically, and histochemically. Like other lungfishes, these species present the following general features: i) elongated olfactory chamber (OC), ii) anterior nostril at the ventral tip of the upper lip, iii) posterior nostril on the palate of the oral cavity, iv) lamellae with multiple cell types such as olfactory receptor neurons, supporting cells, basal cells, lymphatic cells, and mucous cells (MC), and vi) vomero-like epithelial crypt (VEC) made of glandular epithelium (GE) and crypt sensory epithelium. Some of these features exhibit differences between species: MCs are abundant in both the lamellar and inner walls of the OC in P. amphibius but occur only in lamellae in P. dolloi. On the other hand, some between feature differences are consistent across species: the GE of both P. amphibius and P. dolloi is strongly positive for Alcian blue (pH 2.5)-periodic acid Schiff (deep violet coloration), and positive with hematoxylin and eosin and with Masson's trichrome (reddish-brown staining), unlike the MCs of the two species which stain dark red with both Alcian blue (pH 2.5)-periodic acid Schiff and Masson's trichrome but respond faintly to hematoxylin and eosin. The differing abundance of MCs in the two lungfishes might reflect different degrees in aerial exposure of the olfactory organ, while the neutral and acid mucopolysaccharide-containing VEC, as indicated by staining properties of the MCs, is evolutionary evidence that P. amphibius and P. dolloi are the closest living relatives to tetrapods, at least in the order Dipnoi.
