  • Incurable disease such as palsy and imbecility results from bolld pressure and bloodstream hitch. These diseases result in high blood pressure and brain bloodstream obstacle. So, we developed bloodstream improvement system that can improve bloodstream state using physical stimulation. It controls inflow and outflow of air to press and oppress human body sequentially. We can select stimulation region, pattern, pressure and time. Also, it can improve brain bloodstream state, because it can treat stress or headache putting pressure band on head. It can be used as breathing assistance system which has function for breath synchronization.

  • Hickman catheters are tunneled central venous catheters used for long-term venous access in children with malignancies. The appropriate management for various kinds of catheter related complications has become a major issue. We retrospectively analyzed the clinical, demographic, and surgical characteristics in 154 pediatric hemato-oncology patients who underwent Hickman catheter insertion between January 2005 and December 2009. There were 92 boys and 62 girls. The mean age at surgery was $7.6{\pm}5.1$ years old. The mean operation time was $67.4{\pm}21.3$ minutes and C-arm fluoroscopy was used in 47(30.5 %). The causes of Hickman catheter removal were termination of use in 82 (57.3 %), catheter related bloodstream infection in 44(30.8 %), mechanical malfunction in 11(7.7 %), and accidents in 6(4.2 %). Univariate and multivariate analysis for associated factors with catheter related bloodstream infection showed that there were no statistically significant associated factors with catheter related infection complications. All cases except two showed clinical improvement with catheter removal and relevant antibiotics treatment. The mean catheter maintenance period in patients of catheter removal without complications was $214.9{\pm}140.2$ days. And, The mean catheter maintenance period in patients of late catheter related bloodstream infection was $198.0{\pm}116.0$ days. These data suggest that it is important to remove Hickman catheter as soon as possible after the termination of use. When symptoms and signs of complications were noticed, prompt diagnostic approach and management can lead to clinical improvements.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to estimate the effect of targeting risk factors for the control of central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) among high-risk infants in a tertiary neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Methods: Infants admitted to the NICU and diagnosed with CLABSI from January to December 2013 were eligible for inclusion to the study. The CLABSI group (n=47) was matched in a 1:2 ratio to the control group (n=94) based on gestational age, birth weight, and Score for Neonatal Acute Physiology-II. Risk factors for CLABSI were identified using the Cox proportional hazard model, and analysis of the effect of these risk factors targeting infection control was performed. Results: The risk factors associated with CLABSI were prolonged central line dwell days (adjusted hazard ratio [HR], 1.028; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.011 to 1.045; P=0.001), use of a silicone catheter (adjusted HR, 5.895; 95% CI, 1.893 to 18.355; P=0.002), surgical treatment (adjusted HR, 3.793; 95% CI, 1.467 to 9.805; P=0.006), and less probiotic supplementation (adjusted HR, 0.254; 95% CI, 0.068 to 0.949; P=0.042). By targeting these risk factors with a quality improvement initiative, the mean CLABSI incidence rate per 1,000 catheter-days decreased from 6.6 to 3.1 (P=0.004). Conclusion: Targeting risk factors for infection control significantly reduced the rate of CLABSI among high-risk infants in the NICU.

  • This study investigated applicable values and developments of 5 different kinds of oriental medicine materials as functional supplements or medicinal uses, known to improve blood circulation by means of analyzing nutritional compositions and antioxidant activities. Among general nutritional compositions, protein, iron and copper contents in Polygini Multiflori Radix (20.28%, $132.22{\mu}g$/100 g, $26.54{\mu}g$/100 g), Angelica Gigantis Radix (16.54%, $98.20{\mu}g$/100 g, $32.15{\mu}g$/100 g) and Paeoniae Radix(18.67%, $62.10{\mu}g$/100 g, $20.32{\mu}g$/100 g) were significantly higher than other materials. Angelica Gigantis Radix had the highest of total polyphenols and flavonoid contents, Polygini Multiflori Radix (middle), Paeoniae Radix (the lowest). Antioxidant activities by using DPPH radicals removal showed the highest in Polygini Multiflori Radix, Angelica Gigantis Radix (middle), Paeoniae Radix (the lowest). This study tried to use integrated approaches, including Western and Oriental medicine to improve blood circulation and to set up base to develop products originated from natural compositions.

  • This research has been conducted to determine the effect that the visually handicapped's participation in an aerobic exercise program has on cardiorespiratory function and arterial pulse wave. The subjects of this research were 20 people who have a 1st degree visual impairment. They recognized the purpose of this research and agreed to take part in it. After receiving agreements from their guardians, we divided them into an exercise group of 10 and a comparison group of 10 at random. The exercise group conducted a 50-70%HRmax treadmill exercise for 60 minutes a day, five times a week, for 12 weeks, including warm up and warm down exercises. We then conducted a two-way repeated ANOVA, which regards the period of exercise and the two groups as independent variables. The follow-up verification for exercise periods according to each group was carried out with a paired t-test. The statistical significance level was p<.05. The following are the results of this research. First, the weight and body fat of the experiment group after exercise show a meaningful reduction compared to before the exercise program (p<.05).Second, the VO2max, HRmax, and VEmax of the experiment group after exercise show a meaningful increase compared to before the exercise program (p<.05). Third, the arterial pulse wave of the experiment group after exercise display a meaningful increase compared to before the exercise program (p<.05). Fourth, the systolic blood pressure of the experiment group after exercise does not show a meaningful reduction compared to before the exercise program (p>.05). These results prove that the visually handicapped's participation in an aerobic exercise program is effective in the improvement of their cardiorespiratory function, bloodstream circulation function and blood vessel function.
