An Experimental Study on Improved Fuel Economy and Lower Exhaust Emissions of New Automotive Engine adopting Split Cooling System

  • This paper presents a split cooling system for a new inline 4-cylinder automotive engine. The split cooling system circulates coolant to the cylinder head and cylinder block separately. The coolant flow in the cylinder block is controlled by a $2^{nd}$ Thermostat installed at the outlet of cylinder block. The $2^{nd}$ thermostat closes when the coolant temperature is low. And this makes the coolant flow in cylinder block nearly stagnant, thereby reducing the coolant-side heat transfer coefficient and raising cylinder bore temperature. The $2^{nd}$ thermostat starts to open when the coolant temperature reaches a specified temperature. The test results on engine dynamometer show improved fuel economy and lower exhaust emission which result from the decrease in friction works and cooling loss. Also, several vehicle tests, with application of the new engine have been performed. Fuel economy improvement of 0.5{\sim}2.0%$ yields from different test modes and details are discussed in this paper.

즉시 탈회 치아이식재를 사용한 치조골 재건술 (Immediate Autogenous Fresh Demineralized Tooth (Auto-FDT) Graft for Alveolar Bone Reconstruction)

  • Ideal autogenous or allogenic bone graft materials should provide 1) stabilization of blood clot, 2) scaffolds for cellular proliferation and differentiation, 3) release of osteogenic growth factors, 4) appropriate resorption profile for remodeling of new bone. Teeth, especially dentin, mostly contain hydroxyapatite and type I collagen which are similar to bone, and could be valuable graft material. Clinically teeth are used as calcined or demineralized forms. Demineralized form of dentin can be more effective as a graft material. But a conventional decalcification method takes time and long treatment time may give negative effects to various osteogenic proteins in dentin. Author used a new clinical method to prepare autogenous teeth, which could be grafted into the removal defects immediately after extraction using vacuum ultrasonic system. The process could be finished within two hours regardless of the form (powder, chip or block). Teeth were processed to graft materials in block, chip, or powder types immediately after extraction. It took 120 minutes to prepare block types and 40 minutes to prepare powder. Clinical cases did not show any adverse response and the healing was favorable. Rapid preparation of autogenous teeth with the vacuum ultrasonic system could make the immediate one-day extraction and graft possible.

유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 영상개선 필터 시스템 구현 (Implementation of Image Enhancement Filter System Using Genetic Algorithm)

  • In this paper, genetic algorithm based adaptive image enhancement filtering scheme is proposed and Implemented on FPGA board. Conventional filtering methods require a priori noise information for image enhancement. In general, if a priori information of noise is not available, heuristic intuition or time consuming recursive calculations are required for image enhancement. Contrary to the conventional filtering methods, the proposed filter system can find optimal combination of filters as well as their sequent order and parameter values adaptively to unknown noise types using structured genetic algorithms. The proposed image enhancement filter system is mainly composed of two blocks. The first block consists of genetic algorithm part and fitness evaluation part. And the second block consists of four types of filters. The first block (genetic algorithms and fitness evaluation blocks) is implemented on host computer using C code, and the second block is implemented on re-configurabe FPGA board. For gray scale control, smoothing and deblurring, four types of filters(median filter, histogram equalization filter, local enhancement filter, and 2D FIR filter) are implemented on FPGA. For evaluation, three types of noises are used and experimental results show that the Proposed scheme can generate optimal set of filters adaptively without a pioi noise information.

Chaotic Behavior on Rocking Vibration of Rigid Body Block Structure under Two-dimensional Sinusoidal Excitation (In the Case of No Sliding)

  • This present work focuses on the influence of nonlinearities associated with impact on the rocking behavior of a rigid body block subjected to a two-dimensional excitation in the horizontal and vertical directions. The nonlinearities in rocking system are found to be strongly dependent on the impact between the block and the base that abruptly reduces the kinetic energy. In this study, the rocking systems of the two types are considered : The first is an undamped rocking system model that disregards the energy dissipation during the impact and the second is a damped rocking system, which incorporates energy dissipation during the impact. The response analysis is carried out by a numerical method using a non-dimensional rocking equation in which the variations in the excitation levels are considered. Chaos responses are observed over a wide range of parameter values, and particularly in the case of large vertical displacements, the chaotic characteristics are observed in the time histories, Poincare sections, the power spectral density and the largest Lyapunov exponents of the rocking responses. Complex behavior characteristics of rocking responses are illustrated by the Poincare sections.

평문과 키의 종속관계를 이용한 혼합형 블록 암호시스템 설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the design of mixed block crypto-system using subordinate relationship of plaintext and key)

  • 기존 블록 암호알고리즘은 평문과 키가 독립적이다. 또한 구조적인 특징을 이용하여 암/복호화를 수행한다. 이러한 특징은 해킹의 근거자료로 활용된다. 그러므로 제안된 혼합형 암호알고리즘은 외부환경은 기존과 동일하지만 내부적으로 평문과 키를 종속함수로 만들어 기존 블록암호알고리즘의 특징을 없애고자 하였다. 또한 인증처리에 대한 부하를 줄이기 위하여, 종속특징을 가진 인증 부가기능을 포함시켜 대칭형 암호알고리즘 활용을 증대시키고자 하였다. 제안된 혼합형 암호시스템을 칩 레벨로 구현하여 모의실험을 수행한 결과, 기존 시스템에 비하여 키 길이는 평문보다 작지만, 처리속도는 2배 높은 특징을 확인하였다.

  • For efficient transmission and storage of digital images, the requirements of image compression is incresing. Because the medical images contain diagnostic information small distortion has been more important factor than the low rate in such images. Generally the distortion in image is the difference of pixel values. However the image is percieved by human visual systems. So it is reasonable that human visual system characteristics be used as criteria of the image compression. In this paper, the Just Noticeable Difference curve is used as criteria of determining the homogeniety of a block and acceptibility of distortions. And Block Truncation Coding using spatial masking effect of eyes is adopted to code the blocks which contain line components. And small blocks which varies slowly can be approximated to polynomial functions successfully. We proposed the hybrid block coding scheme based on the block characteristics and human visual system characteristics. Simulation to several kinds of the medical images using this method showed that medical images can be compressed 5:1 - 10:1 without noticeable distortion.

An Efficient Block Cipher Implementation on Many-Core Graphics Processing Units

  • This paper presents a study on a high-performance design for a block cipher algorithm implemented on modern many-core graphics processing units (GPUs). The recent emergence of VLSI technology makes it feasible to fabricate multiple processing cores on a single chip and enables general-purpose computation on a GPU (GPGPU). The GPU strategy offers significant performance improvements for all-purpose computation and can be used to support a broad variety of applications, including cryptography. We have proposed an efficient implementation of the encryption/decryption operations of a block cipher algorithm, SEED, on off-the-shelf NVIDIA many-core graphics processors. In a thorough experiment, we achieved high performance that is capable of supporting a high network speed of up to 9.5 Gbps on an NVIDIA GTX285 system (which has 240 processing cores). Our implementation provides up to 4.75 times higher performance in terms of encoding and decoding throughput as compared to the Intel 8-core system.

Twofish 암호알고리즘의 처리속도 향상을 위한 MDS 성능개선에 관한 연구 (A Study on the MDS performance improvement for Twofish cryptographic algorithm speed-up)

  • 본 논문은 Rijndael 암호알고리즘에 비하여 알고리즘 자체가 간결하며 구현의 용이성이 좋지만 처리속도가 느린 단점을 가진 Twofish 암호알고리즘의 속도를 향상시키기 위하여 MDS 블록을 새롭게 설계하였다. 설계된 MDS 블록은 Twofish 암호 시스템의 critical path를 점유하게 되는 블록으로서 처리과정중의 병목현상으로 인한 속도저하의 문제점이 존재하였다. 이러한 MDS 블록에서 연산자로 사용되는 곱셈연산을 LUT 연산과 modulo-2 연산을 사용하여 MDS 자체에 대한 속도저하 및 병목현상을 제거하였다. 이러한 결과로 새롭게 설계된 MDS 블록을 포함하는 Twofish 암호시스템은 기존 Twofish 암호시스템에 비하여 $10\%$정도 처리속도의 향상을 가져옴을 확인하였다.

경량식생블럭을 이용한 옥상녹화 공법의 토심계획에 관한 실험적연구 (Experimental Study on Planning Soil Depth of Green Roof System using Light-Weight Greening Block)

  • Green roof system is classified as intensive greening, extensive greening or mix of intensive-extensive greening. Recently, light-weigh green roof has been performed actively, because buildings have been considered loads, design and maintenance. This study was conducted to design soil depth for light-vegetation block with using bottom-ash. As a result, it was found that growth of plant had no direct effect on soil depth even it was less than 10cm. Soil depth having under 5cm could be integration of plant roots and vegetation blocks. It was also possible to grow organic vegetables through the experiment of planting. According to this experiment, as light-vegetation block with bottom-ash was used for planting, it makes design shallow soil depth. The results will help install green roof system conveniently not only new buildings but also used buildings.

  • 높은 신뢰도를 요구하는 비행제어 시스템은 복잡한 중복구조로 구성된다. 이러한 중복 구조는 시스템의 내고장성(fault tolerant)을 향상시킬 수 있다. 따라서 시스템 설계자는 다양하게 구성될 수 있는 중복구조의 정량적 데이터를 바탕으로 적절한 구조를 선택할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 중복구조의 특징을 분석하고 신뢰도 해석을 위해 필요한 수학적 모델을 정의하였다. 이렇게 정의된 해석 모델을 적용하여 Simulink 블록 기반의 Reliability Block Diagram 해석 도구를 구성하고, 상용으로 사용되고 있는 도구를 이용하여 분석도구의 타당성을 검증하였다.
