  • Lightweight Encryption Algorithm (LEA) that was standardized as a lightweight block cipher was implemented with 8-bit data path, and the vulnerability of LEA encryption processor to correlation power analysis (CPA) attack was analyzed. The CPA used in this paper detects correct round keys by analyzing correlation coefficient between the Hamming distance of the computed data by applying hypothesized keys and the power dissipated in LEA crypto-processor. As a result of CPA attack, correct round keys were detected, which have maximum correlation coefficients of 0.6937, 0.5507, and this experimental result shows that block cipher LEA is vulnerable to power analysis attacks. A masking method based on TRNG was proposed as a countermeasure to CPA attack. By applying masking method that adds random values obtained from TRNG to the intermediate data of encryption, incorrect round keys having maximum correlation coefficients of 0.1293, 0.1190 were analyzed. It means that the proposed masking method is an effective countermeasure to CPA attack.

  • Lightweight ciphers are increasingly employed in cryptography because of the high demand for secure data transmission in wireless sensor network, embedded devices, and Internet of Things. The PRESENT algorithm as an ultralightweight block cipher provides better solution for secure hardware cryptography with low power consumption and minimum resource. This study generates the key using key rotation and substitution method, which contains key rotation, key switching, and binary-coded decimal-based key generation used in image encryption. The key rotation and substitution-based PRESENT architecture is proposed to increase security level for data stream and randomness in cipher through providing high resistance to attacks. Lookup table is used to design the key scheduling module, thus reducing the area of architecture. Field-programmable gate array (FPGA) performances are evaluated for the proposed and conventional methods. In Virtex 6 device, the proposed key rotation and substitution PRESENT architecture occupied 72 lookup tables, 65 flip flops, and 35 slices which are comparably less to the existing architecture.

  • In order to provide confidential services between two communicating parties, block data encryption using a symmetric secret key is applied. A power analysis attack on a cryptosystem is a side channel-analysis method that can extract a secret key by measuring the power consumption traces of the crypto device. In this paper, we propose an attack model that can recover the secret key using a power analysis attack based on a deep learning convolutional neural network (CNN) algorithm. Considering that the CNN algorithm is suitable for image analysis, we particularly adopt the recurrence plot (RP) signal processing method, which transforms the one-dimensional power trace into two-dimensional data. As a result of executing the proposed CNN attack model on an XMEGA128 experimental board that implemented the AES-128 encryption algorithm, we recovered the secret key with 22.23% accuracy using raw power consumption traces, and obtained 97.93% accuracy using power traces on which we applied the RP processing method.

  • This paper describes an efficient implementation of KS(Korea Standards) block cipher algorithm ARIA. The ARIA crypto-processor supports three master key lengths of 128/192/256-bit and four modes of operation including ECB, CBC, OFB and CTR. A hardware sharing technique, which shares round function in encryption/decryption with key initialization, is employed to reduce hardware complexity. It reduces about 20% of gate counts when compared with straightforward implementation. The ARIA crypto-processor is verified by FPGA implementation, and synthesized with a $0.13-{\mu}m$ CMOS cell library. It has 46,100 gates on an area of $684-{\mu}m{\times}684-{\mu}m$ and the estimated throughput is about 1.28 Gbps at 200 MHz@1.2V.

  • EC(Electronic Commerce) which is done on the virtual space through Internet has strong point like independence from time and space. On the contrary, it also has weak point like security problem because anybody can access easily to the system due to open network attribute of Internet, Therefore, we need the solutions that protect the EC security problem for safe and useful EC activity. One of these solutions is the implementation of strong cipher system. YK2(Young Ku King) cipher system proposed in this paper is good solution for the EC security and it overcome the limit of current block cipher system using 128 bits key length for input, output, encryption key and 32 rounds. Moreover, it is designed for the increase of time complexity by adapting more complex design for key scheduling algorithm regarded as one of important element effected to encryption.

  • Plaintext and key are independent in the existing block cipher. Also, encryption/decryption is performed by using structural features. Therefore, the external environment of suggested mixed cryptographic algorithm is identical with the existing ones, but internally, features of the existing block cipher were meant to be removed by making plaintext and key into dependent functions. Also, to decrease the loads on the authentication process, authentication add-on with dependent characteristic was included to increase the use of symmetric cryptographic algorithm. Through the simulation where the proposed cryptosystem was implemented in the chip level, we show that our system using the shorter key length than the length of the plaintext is two times faster than the existing systems.

  • This paper describes a design of area-efficient/low-power cryptographic processor for lightweight block cipher algorithm HIGHT which was approved as a cryptographic standard by KATS and ISO/IEC. The HIGHT algorithm which is suitable for the security of IoT(Internet of Things), encrypts a 64-bit plain text with a 128-bit cipher key to make a 64-bit cipher text, and vice versa. For area-efficient and low-power implementation, we adopt 32-bit data path and optimize round transform block and key scheduler to share hardware resources for encryption and decryption.

  • This paper describes ATM cell encipherment method using Rijndael Algorithm adopted as an AES(Advanced Encryption Standard) by NIST in 2001. ISO 9160 describes the requirement of physical layer data processing in encryption/decryption. For the description of ATM cell encipherment method, we implemented ATM data encipherment equipment which satisfies the requirements of ISO 9160, and verified the encipherment/decipherment processing at ATM STM-1 rate(155.52Mbps). The DES algorithm can process data in the block size of 64 bits and its key length is 64 bits, but the Rijndael algorithm can process data in the block size of 128 bits and the key length of 128, 192, or 256 bits selectively. So it is more flexible in high bit rate data processing and stronger in encription strength than DES. For tile real time encryption of high bit rate data stream. Rijndael algorithm was implemented in FPGA in this experiment. The boundary of serial UNI cell was detected by the CRC method, and in the case of user data cell the payload of 48 octets (384 bits) is converted in parallel and transferred to 3 Rijndael encipherment module in the block size of 128 bits individually. After completion of encryption, the header stored in buffer is attached to the enciphered payload and retransmitted in the format of cell. At the receiving end, the boundary of ceil is detected by the CRC method and the payload type is decided. n the payload type is the user data cell, the payload of the cell is transferred to the 3-Rijndael decryption module in the block sire of 128 bits for decryption of data. And in the case of maintenance cell, the payload is extracted without decryption processing.

  • Internet-of-Things (IoT) is an emerging technology that interconnects millions of small devices to enable communication between the devices. It is heavily deployed across small scale to large scale industries because of its wide range of applications. These devices are very capable of transferring data over the internet including critical data in few applications. Such data is exposed to various security threats and thereby raises privacy-related concerns. Even devices can be compromised by the attacker. Modern cryptographic algorithms running on traditional machines provide authentication, confidentiality, integrity, and non-repudiation in an easy manner. IoT devices have numerous constraints related to memory, storage, processors, operating systems and power. Researchers have proposed several hardware and software implementations for addressing security attacks in lightweight encryption mechanism. Several works have made on lightweight block ciphers for improving the confidentiality by means of providing security level against cryptanalysis techniques. With the advances in the cipher breaking techniques, it is important to increase the security level to much higher. This paper, focuses on securing the critical data that is being transmitted over the internet by PRESENT using key-based dynamic S-Box. Security analysis of the proposed algorithm against other lightweight block cipher shows a significant improvement against linear and differential attacks, biclique attack and avalanche effect. A novel key-based dynamic S-Box approach for PRESENT strongly withstands cryptanalytic attacks in the IoT Network.
