  • This paper introduces the downlink Eigen-beamformer with Space-Time Block Code (STBC) 〔1,2〕employed on the MISO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) systems. The proposed scheme is acquired both transmit diversity gain from STBC and beamforming gain from Eigen-beamformer. In general, it is well described that the diversity gain be maximized when channel parameters associated to fingers are mutually independent. Major role f utilizing Eigen-beamformer is to enforce channel parameters being uncorrelated. According to this, the proposed STBC combined with Eigen-beamformer on the downlink significantly improves its performance under the spatially correlated channel. Simulation results are accomplished under three distinct channel conditioned with varying the degree of their correlations. The result indicates hat our proposed scheme is good performance in spatially correlated channel.

  • In this paper, by considering the real UWA channel environments, the measured channel data is used to generate the UWA channel model and calculate the relative parameters for underwater OFDM systems. Practical least square (LS) based channel estimation with linear interpolation are adopted to obtain the channel state information (CSI) at receiver side. As multi-input multi-output (MIMO) processing techniques, Alamouti code is implemented and evaluated to perform for space time block coding (STBC) and space frequency block coding (SFBC) for UWA OFDM systems with the MIMO configuration of $2{\times}1$, at the same time, $1{\times}2$ maximum ratio combining (MRC) is performed for the purpose of comparison. The simulation results show that, with perfect channel estimation, SFBC failed to work duo to the serious frequency selectivity of UWA channel environments. When the practical channel estimation is applied, in the case of STBC, the proposed 4-column pilot pattern gives better performance about 7dB than SISO system.

  • The interaction of cyclosporine A (CsA), an immunosuppressant, with rat brain Kv1.5 (Kv1.5) channels, which were stably expressed in Chinese hamster ovary cells, was investigated using the whole-cell patch-clamp technique. CsA reversibly blocked Kv1.5 currents at +50 mV in a reversible concentrationdependent manner with an apparent $IC_{50}$ of 1.0μM. Other calcineurin inhibitors (cypermethrin, autoinhibitory peptide) had no effect on Kv1.5 and did not prevent the inhibitory effect of CsA. Fast application of CsA led to a rapid and reversible block of Kv1.5, and the onset time constants of the CsA-induced block were decreased in a concentration-dependent manner. The CsA-induced block of Kv1.5 channels was voltage-dependent, with a steep increase over the voltage range of channel opening. However, the block exhibited voltage independence over the voltage range in which channels were fully activated. The rate constants for association and dissociation of CsA were $7.0{\mu}M{-1}s^{-1}$ and $8.1s^{-1}$, respectively. CsA slowed the deactivation time course, resulting in a tail crossover phenomenon. Block of Kv1.5 by CsA was use-dependent. CsA also blocked Kv1.3 currents at +50 mV in a reversible concentration-dependent manner with an apparent $IC_{50}$ of $1.1{\mu}M$. The same effects of CsA on Kv1.3 were also observed in excised inside-out patches when applied to the internal surface of the membrane. The present results suggest that CsA acts directly on Kv1.5 currents as an open-channel blocker, independently of the effects of CsA on calcineurin activity.

  • A Block-Time-Bounded Time Division Multiple Access (BTB-TDMA) medium access control protocol, which estimates the propagation delay of nodes according to their location and moving velocity information, has been proposed for underwater acoustic networks. BTB-TDMA provides nodes with their transmission schedules by a time block that is a time unit, newly designed for BTB-TDMA. In this paper, we investigate how the receiver collision, that is induced by the asymmetry between node's uplink and downlink propagation delay due to its mobility, affects the performance of BTB-TDMA. To do this, we analytically obtain the collision rate, the channel access delay, and the channel utilization by considering the asymmetry of propagation delay. Then, simulations are extensively performed with respect to the length of a time block by varying the number of nodes, the network range, and the node's velocity. Thus, the simulation results can suggest performance criteria to determine the optimal length of a time block which minimizes the collision rate and concurrently maximizes the channel access delay and the channel utilization.

  • Chlorpheniramine is a potent first-generation histamine $H_1$ receptor antagonist that can increase action potential duration and induce QT prolongation in several animal models. Since block of cardiac human ether-a-go-go-related gene (hERG) channels is one of leading causes of acquired long QT syndrome, we investigated the acute effects of chlorpheniramine on hERG channels to determine the electrophysiological basis for its proarrhythmic potential. We examined the effects of chlorpheniramine on the hERG channels expressed in Xenopus oocytes using two-microelectrode voltage-clamp techniques. Chlorpheniramine induced a concentration-dependent decrease of the current amplitude at the end of the voltage steps and hERG tail currents. The $IC_{50}$ of chlorpheniramine-dependent hERG block in Xenopus oocytes decreased progressively relative to the degree of depolarization. Chlorpheniramine affected the channels in the activated and inactivated states but not in the closed states. The S6 domain mutations Y652A and F656A partially attenuated (Y652A) or abolished (F656A) the hERG current block. These results suggest that the $H_1$ antihistamine, chlorpheniramine is a blocker of the hERG channels, providing a molecular mechanism for the drug-induced arrhythmogenic side effects.

  • For orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), cyclic prefix (CP) should be longer than the length of channel impulse response. In order to prevent a loss of bandwidth efficiency due to the use of a CP, residual intersymbol interference cancellation (RISIC) method has recently been developed. In this paper, we first apply the RISIC algorithm to the space-time block coded (STBC) OFDM and the space-frequency block coded (SFBC) OFDM with insufficient CP. It is shown that in the STBC OFDM, tail cancellation as well as cyclic restoration of the RISIC should be repeated. Second, we propose iterative channel estimation method for the RISIC in the STBC OFDM system with insufficient CP. Based on the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm, the proposed estimation method exploits the extrinsic probabilities of the channel decoder iteratively. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by computer simulation in a multipath fading environment.

  • In this paper, we propose a new CL-OSTBC (Closed Loop Orthogonal Space-Time Block Code) scheme for four transmit antennas and compare the scheme with existing closed loop schemes on the performance of BER (Bit Error Rate). In the proposed scheme, a transmitter receives channel feedback information and combines modulated symbols by the symbol combiner, and transmits the symbols encoded by the space-time block encoder. As a result, the proposed scheme achieves full-rate and maximal channel gains by more efficient utilization of the channel feedback information. Moreover, the scheme can reduce computation complexity by using a linear detector. Simulation results on the BER performance show that the proposed CL-OSTBC scheme outperforms existing CL-OSTBC schemes.

  • In this paper, an efficient pre-processing in space tine block coded-spatial multiplexing systems is presented. The pre-processing scheme is designed empirically with extending the diagonally weighted orthogonal space time-block coded diversity system to spatial multiplexing system. Simulation results show the proposed scheme outperforms both the precoder using the predefued codebooks and typical antenna selection scheme over moderate doppler frequency in limited feedback channel.

  • Space-Time Block Code (STBC) is a simple transmit diversity scheme mitigating detrimental effects of fading channel. However, STBC receivers require channel knowledge and suffer from inaccurate channel estimation. Differential Space-Time Modulation (DSTM) renders the receiver a choice of coherent detection or non-coherent detection, depending on the availability of the channel information. Based on the simulated BER performances of these two schemes over various normalized Doppler frequency scenarios using LTE-like parameters, a benefit of adaptively switching the receiver type is investigated.
