Performance of Cemented Carbides in Cyclic Loading Wear Conditions

  • The present study describes the wear and mechanical behaviour of carbide composites in cyclic loading applications (blanking of sheet metal). Adhesive wear as well as fatigue endurance were tested, complemented by XRD studies. It was found that the blanking performance of a carbide composite is controlled by its resistance to adhesion wear and fatigue sensitivity. XRD studies revealed that fatigue damage is preceded by plastic strain in both phases of the composites

  • Using the Taguchi method, optimum process condition of lead frame blanking has been determined in the point of view of shape of blanked profile. As the main process parameters, clearance, strip holding pressure and bridge width are selected. According to the orthogonal array table, three levels of experiment have been carried out for each factors. The optimal blanking condition is analyzed with the SN ratio. It has been verified that the optimal process condition can be determined with a combination of basic blanking experiment and experiment design method. Both the effect of each factors and gain can be judged in the quantitative manners from the analysis of SN ratio.

  • Usually compound dies are used in clinch washer production. However, in this study, a fine blanking die is designed and manufactured, and clinch washers are produced by the die. Clinch washers are for electric exhaust gas recirculation (EEGR) and they recirculate some of exhaust gas to reduce harmful substances. Fine blanking automation production eliminates difficulties operators face on conventional press.

  • One characteristic of Fine-Blanking is that the size and the direction of stress and strain are very complex in the plastic flow according to the condition of blanking. Especially, they are affected by the clearance of punch and die, by the force of blanking holder and by the force of counter punch. The purpose of this research is to how the deformation behavior in shear zone more clearly, based on Green & Cauch's large deformation theory. The deformation behavior and cracks were investigated in each step of shear, according to punch penetration increase, the use of V-indenter ring and the hardness of materials. This research found that the transforming behavior was the same as pure discretion and the cracks could be prevented when hardness is low.

  • This paper describes a research work of developing a computer-aided design of blanking and piercing for stator and rotor parts. Based on knowledge-based rules, the die design system, STRTDES2, is designed by considering several factors, such as complexities of blank geometry and punch profile, and availability of press equipment and standard parts. Therefore this system can carry out a die design for each process which is obtained from the result of an automated process planning system, STRTDES1 and generate part drawing and the assembly drawing of die set in graphic forms. Knowledges for die layout are extracted from plasticity theories, relevant references and empirical know-hows of experts in blanking industries.

  • IC leadframe needs precision shape for good efficiency. Friction conditions also have a significant impact on blanking deformation. Therefore, studying the friction produced by the tribology between die and materials becomes necessary. In this study, in order to measure mechanical properties and frictions for leadframe materials such as Ni alloys and coppers, tensile test and straight pulling friction test are executed. In particular, the effect of clearance on the blanking characteristics depending on friction coefficient is examined by finite element simulation. From the finite element simulation, the metal flow, side pressure of punch and crack initiation are evaluated according to the leadframe materials.

  • This study is performed for investigating the effects of stripping and counter punching force on shearing characteristics in fine blanking, such as camber, burr-height and dimensional accuracy, etc by experiments. Conventional hydraulic press equipped with specially designed hydraulic unit is used for experiments so that both the stripping force and counter punching force are arbitrarily adjusted according to experimental conditions. Two kinds of materials, hot rolled steel sheet(1mm, 3mm) and pure aluminum(1mm, 3mm) are selected in order to examine the influence of strength and thickness of working materials in blanking of T-shaped products. Based on the experimental results of this study, it can be concluded that the finely cut surface of sheared blank can be obtained even in conventional hydraulic press if additional equipments and special dies are employed.

시간-주파수 분석에 의한 금형 마모 분석 (Stamping Tool Wearing Analysis by Time-Frequency Analysis)

  • This paper reports on the research which analyzes acoustic signals acquired in progressive compressing, hole blanking, and burr compacting process. An acoustic sensor was set on the bed of hydraulic press. Acoustic signal is generated from progressive stamping process. First the signal acquired from the unit process; compressing, blanking or compacting, is studied by Fourier Transform and Short Time Fourier Transform. The blanking process emitted ultrasonic signal with more than 20kHz, but the compressing and compacting processes emitted acoustic signals with lower than 10kHz. The combined signals periodically acquired right after the tool grinding were then analyzed. 70-80kHz signals appeared in time-frequency domain, but not in the frequency domain, the magnitude of which was related to the tool wear. Short Time Fourier Transform made up for the Fourier Transform in analyzing the emitted signal for stamping process in the ultrasonic domain.

  • The blanking interface between an ES system and a radar system on the same platform cause the unwanted radar signal separation in the process of the signal measurement of the ES system. In this paper, we propose the novel radar signal blanking method for ES. The proposed method extracts a standard of judgement which we can decide whether a radar signal is separated by the blanking interface and presents how to merge the separated signals. Test result is presented to show the performance of the proposed method.
