Since the research of Black and Scholes (1973), modeling methods using diffusion processes have performed principal roles in financial engineering. In modern financial theories, various types of diffusion processes were suggested and applied in real situations. An estimation of the model parameters is an indispensible step to analyze financial data using diffusion process models. Many estimation methods were suggested and their properties were investigated. This paper reviews the statistical properties of the, Euler approximation method, New Local Linearization(NLL) method, and Generalized Methods of Moment(GMM) that are known as the most practical methods. From the simulation study, we found the NLL and Euler methods performed better than GMM. GMM is frequently used to estimate the parameters because of its simplicity; however this paper shows the performance of GMM is poorer than the Euler approximation method or the NLL method that are even simpler than GMM. This paper shows the performance of the GMM is extremely poor especially when the parameters in diffusion coefficient are to be estimated.
This study estimates the value of photovoltaic core material technology, which is getting attention as a clean energy source. The estimation is based on the real option pricing model (ROPM). This study has two main contributions. The first is in the methodology. The process of modeling volatility, which is the most complicated stage in ROPM, is greatly simplified by using the stock price as a covariate representing the volatility of the real option's basic asset. The second contribution is the application of technology. In this study, the economic value of poly-silicon, a core material in the photovoltaic industry and recently surging in demand, is evaluated as a manufacturing technology. In a case study of a company in the photovoltaic industry, the stochastic process of a basic asset follows geometric Brownian motion (GBM), and the option value of firm A's poly-silicon manufacturing technology is estimated at 3.4 trillion won.

Using the assumption that the price of a stock follows a geometric Brownian motion with constant volatility, Black and Scholes (BS) derived a formula that gives the price of a European call option on the stock as a function of the stock price, the strike price, the time to maturity, the risk-free interest rate, the dividend rate paid by the stock, and the volatility of the stock's return. However, implied volatilities of BS method tend to depend on the stock prices and the time to maturity in practice. To address this shortcoming, we estimate the implied volatility function as a function of the strike priceand the time to maturity for data consisting of the daily prices for KOSPI200 call options from January 2007 to May 2009 using support vector regression (SVR), the multiple additive regression trees (MART) algorithm, and ordinary least squaress (OLS) regression. In conclusion, use of MART or SVR in the BS pricing model reduced both RMSE and MAE, compared to the OLS-based BS pricing model.

Generation of Corporate risk Contents using Financial Data The purpose of this paper is to capture risk profiles of smaller-sized Korean firms vis-$\grave{a}$-vis larger-sized firms during the Asian financial crisis. For this purpose, risk profiles are provided by estimating expected default risks and by tracking how these have changed during this period with respect to their magnitude, volatility, and sensitivity measures. Methodology used in this study employs the Black-Scholes-Merton model for producing estimates of default risks. And the conventional trans-log function is utilized for obtaining sensitivity measures of the estimated default risks. According to empirical evidence obtained here, it is revealed that contractions of corporate loans associated with IMF austerity policy was the main factor responsible for the drastic change in the default risk profile of Korean firms after occurrence of the Asian financial crisis.

We consider several methods to approximate option prices with correction terms to the Black-Scholes option price. These methods are able to compute option prices from various risk-neutral distributions using relatively small data and simple computation. In this paper, we compare the performance of Edgeworth expansion, A-type and C-type Gram-Charlier expansions, a method of using Normal inverse gaussian distribution, and an asymptotic method of using nonlinear regression through simulation experiments and real KOSPI200 option data. We assume the variance gamma model in the simulation experiment, which has a closed-form solution for the option price among the pure jump $L{\acute{e}}vy$ processes. As a result, we found that methods to approximate an option price directly from the approximate price formula are better than methods to approximate option prices through the approximate risk-neutral density function. The method to approximate option prices by nonlinear regression showed relatively better performance among those compared.
The investment in Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects is increasing rapidly as the first implementation period began in 2008. This paper examines on the optimal level of primary Certified Emission Reduction (CER) price, subsidiary original projects investment cost and expected issues CER per year, using UNFCCC CDM Project Design Document (PDD) data. Real option model is developed to incorporate a case where the investment is irreversible and underlying asset price is uncertainty. This study employs Real option approach which allow the optimal level regard as economic feasibility of CER price has analyzed with NPV (Net Present Value) and Black-Scholes call option(Real option) value. Finally, CER supply curve and price elasticity of supply are estimated.
Recently the role of ports has been changed to satisfy flexibly needs of demands in global economy. A new concept for ports is not just a place for international trade but an important nodal point in logistics chain. The changing environment like this trend creates a high degree of uncertainty and leaves port managers confused with the question how to respond effectively to dynamic market. The latest studies provide that the port must have a good hinterland to achieve competitive advantages in a logistics chain. Korean Government announced "The Master Development Plan for Port Logistics Parks in Korea" in 2006. This contains the plan of hinterland construction of Busan New Port to achieve the status of logistics hub in Asian market. Previous studies rely solely on traditional DCF(discounted cash flow) analysis for investment of hinterland. However DCF method does not include irreversibility, uncertainty and the choice of timing for investment project. This thesis introduces a ROPM(real options pricing model) which overcomes the limitations of traditional valuation methods. The option valuations in this study utilize the Black-Scholes model, the binomial model and the MonteCarlo simulation to value investment opportunity of a port hinterland. In this thesis, an attempt is made to modify the NPV criterion by incorporating the real options approach, and its application is demonstrated in a hinterland construction investment plan. This research has conducted an empirical analysis by calculating economic value of the investment for a hinterland of Busan New Port.

The past IMF foreign exchange crisis and subprime financial crisis had a big influence on variability of macroeconomics, even if the origin of its occurrence might be different. This not only had a significant infrequence on the overall industries, but also produced many insolvent companies by being closely linked with a management environment of an individual construction company leading the construction industry. The purpose of this research is to investigate characteristics of management condition of construction company according to the size of construction company using KMV model developed on the basis of the Black & Scholes option pricing theory. This research has set 28 construction companies listed to KOSPI/KOSDAQ for applying the KMV model and measuring the level of the default risk of construction companies. The data was retrieved from TS2000 established by Korea Listed Companies Association (KLCA), Statistics Korea. The analysis period is between first quarter of 2004 and fourth quarter of 2010. This research examine characteristics of the level and fluctuation process of the management condition of construction company according to the size of construction company.

This paper is to understand the impact of systematic risk on capitalization rate at office building market and retail real estate market in Seoul and to see if CAPM(Capital Asset Pricing Model) is applicable. For this, this paper considers eight different office building and retail real estate markets in Seoul city area, called GBD, YBD, CBD, and Other Business District, and GBD, SBD, CBD, and Other Business District, to find out if there is any positive-linearity between systematic risk and capitalization rate for each business district not. Then, this paper tries to verify applicability of CAPM to four office building markets and four retail real estate markets with Black, Jensen, and Scholes(1972)'s statistical methodology. At last, the result shows that there is positive linearity between systematic risk and capitalization rate only GBD except Others(YBD, CBD, and other business district) in office building market. In addtion, SBD and CBD, they could be figured out that it is not efficient market because increasing systematic risk declines capitalization rate in retail real estate market. However, CAPM is not applicable in all office building(GBD, YBD, CBD, and other business district) and retail real estate markets(GBD, SBD, CBD, and other business district) in Seoul.
