  • About 50% of Active Galactic Nuclei(AGNs) are found to be red and dust-obscured. They are believed to be in an early dusty stage of AGNs evolution or affected by dust torus in the direction of line of sight. However, optical spectrum is affected by dust extinction, making it difficult to study their properties, such as FWHM and luminosity. In order to reveal the mass of central Black Hole(BH) in red AGN, we establish a new BH mass estimator for typical type1 AGNs using Near InfraRed(NIR) hydrogen line($P_{\alpha}$ and $P_{\beta}$), since these lines are at longer wavelength, less affected by dust extinction than optical hydrogen lines, such as $H_{\alpha}$ and $H_{\alpha}$. To derive the new empirical formula, we use a sample of well-known 36 AGN with a wide BH mass range of $10^6-10^9\;M_{\odot}$, where $M_{BH}s$ are estimated by reverberation mapping method and single epoch method. The $P_{\alpha}/P_{\beta}$ luminosities and FWHMs are derived by analyzing IRTF NIR spectra or taken from literature values. We show that luminosities and FWHMs of these lines correlate well with those of Balmer lines. Suggesting that Paschen and Balmer broad lines are originated from same region. Finally, we present the new $M_{BH}$ formula that are based on $P_{\alpha}/P_{\beta}$ luminosity and FWHM. We hope that our result will be used for investigating red AGNs.

  • The black soldier fly is economically important because its prepupae are used as feed for many animals, including fish and swine. In Korea, black-soldier-fly farms have attempted to increase annual breeding and mass egg production for use in animal feed, as well as the decomposition of organic waste. Such efforts require an understanding of optimal mating and oviposition techniques. Specifically, adult densities and cage size may both improve the efficiency of mass egg production. Our study used four sizes of nylon cages ($1.0{\times}1.0{\times}2.5m$, $1.5{\times}1.5{\times}2.5m$, $2.0{\times}2.0{\times}2.5m$, $2.5{\times}2.5{\times}2.5m$) and three density treatments (4 kg, 8 kg, and 10 kg of pupae) to investigate optimal habitat size and adult density. We found that cage size (independent of density) did not significantly influence female fecundity (number of egg clutches and egg weight), whereas higher densities increased egg number and weight regardless of cage size. Thus, we recommend manipulating adult density to enhance productivity in commercial black-soldier-fly farming. However, we also propose further detailed research to develop methods that account for seasonal changes and environmental conditions, as climatic variables (temperature, sunlight) likely influence female fecundity as well.

  • Under natural conditions, black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens (L.) (Diptera: Stratiomyidae), colonizes in warm temperate regions, and is active in Korea from May through October. Information on black soldier fly rearing, which is affected by seasonal factors in Korea, is limited. Oviposition by black soldier flies is dependent on light intensity and wavelength. Therefore, continuous mass rearing of this fly requires determination of optimal artificial conditions of illumination. In this study, we compared the number of eggs laid under an artificial light source (750 watt HPL lamp) versus nature sunlight. Our results showed that compared to oviposition under natural sunlight, the use of one or two lamps for 7 hours, resulted in only 43 and 76%, of the total number of eggs laid under natural sunlight, respectively. We also investigated the hatchability of oviposited eggs under artificial illumination and under natural sunlight. The hatching rate under the former was much significantly lower than under the latter. Further detailed research is required to develop methods for successful mass rearing of black soldier fly throughout the year by means of an indoor system.

  • For $CO_2-free$ hydrogen production and better utilization of the produced carbon, catalytic decomposition of methane over rubber-grade carbon blacks manufactured from coal tar was carried out. The catalytic activities of several domestic carbon blacks were compared. A pelletized carbon black exhibited considerably lower activity and activation energy than the fluffy( loose) carbon black of the same grade. This difference is considered due to the binder that was added during pelletization. For pelletized carbon blacks, a tendency was observed that the activity per unit mass of catalyst increased with the specific surface area of the carbon black. Another tendency was also observed that the activation energy increased with the primary particle size or decrease of the specific surface area.

  • The elemental composition of electro-deposited black Cr solar selective coatings before and after heating in air by using secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) was investigated for optical property analysis. In addition, black Cr selective coating exposed by solar radiation for 5 months was compared with heated sample. SIMS investigation shows that $OH^+$ bearing ions were related to a near surface region of CrOH and CrO compound. The optical degradation of this coating after heating at $500^{\circ}C$ reveals that diffusion of the Cu and Ni elements in substrate material, the chemical interactions adjacent to the interface, and the interface width broadening.

  • Observations show that the accretion flows in low-luminosity active galactic nuclei (LLAGNs) probably have a two-component structure with an inner hot, optically thin, advection dominated accretion flow (ADAF) and an outer truncated cool, optically thick accretion disk. As shown by Taam et al. (2012), within the framework of the disk evaporation model, the truncation radius as a function of mass accretion rate is strongly affected by including the magnetic field. We define the parameter ${\beta}$ as $p_m=B^2/8{\pi}=(1-{\beta})p_{tot}$, (where $p_{tot}=p_{gas}+p_m$, $p_{gas}$ is gas pressure and $p_m$ is magnetic pressure) to describe the strength of the magnetic field in accretion flows. It is found that an increase of the magnetic field (decreasing the value of ${\beta}$) results in a smaller truncation radius for the accretion disk. We calculate the emergent spectrum of an inner ADAF + an outer truncated accretion disk around a supermassive black hole by considering the effects of the magnetic field on the truncation radius of the accretion disk. By comparing with observations, we found that a weaker magnetic field (corresponding to a bigger value of ${\beta}$) is required to match the observed correlation between $L_{2-10keV}/L_{Edd}$ and the bolometric correction $k_{2-10keV}$, which is consistent with the physics of the accretion flow with a low mass accretion rate around a black hole.

  • In this paper, we propsoe an encryption algorithm of image information using a mass transfer function (MTF). The algorithm is based on a diffusion phenomenon of black ink when black ink dropped in the stationary water. We mathematically analyze the phenomenon, in consideration of characteristics of image information, and apply the results of analysis to the security of image transfer phenomenon. The cryptosystem proposed in this paper enables the security services of information in narrow-band channel communication network to be provided. And in transmission of important information, it can secure against intentional disturbance and violation. Also, it can guarantee the safe flow of information.

  • Given high accretion rates close to the Eddington limit, narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1) are arguably the most important AGN subclass in investigating the origin of the black hole mass-galaxy stellar velocity dispersion ($M_{BH}-{\sigma}$) relation. Currently, it is highly debated whether NLS1s are offset from the local $M_{BH}-{\sigma}$ relation. The controversy mainly comes from the fact that the [OIII] line width has been used as a proxy for stellar velocity dispersion due to the difficulty of measuring stellar velocity dispersion in NLS1s. Using the SDSS spectra of a sample of 105 NLS1, we performed multi-component fitting analysis to separate stellar absorption lines from strong AGN [FeII] complex in order to directly measure stellar velocity dispersion. We will present the result of decomposition analysis and discuss whether NLS1s follow the same $M_{BH}-{\sigma}$ relation based on the direct measurements of stellar velocity dispersion.

  • We analyze the host galaxy of the tidal disruption object, Swift J1644+57, based on long-term optical to NIR data obtained with CQUEAN and UKIRT WFCAM observations. We decompose the bulge component using high resolution HST WFC3 images. We conclude that the host galaxy is bulge dominant. We investigate optical to NIR light curves and estimate the multi-band fluxes of the host galaxy. We fit spectral energy distribution (SED) models in order to determine the stellar mass. Finally, we estimate the mass of the black hole in the center of the host galaxy based on several scale relations.
