Hydrothermal reactions of Ni(NO₃)₂· 6H₂O with trans-1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene (bipyen), in the presence of a linear 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid (NDCH₂) and a bent 4,4'-oxybis(benzoic acid) (OBCH₂), gave a 2-D coordination polymer [Ni(NDC)(bipyen)(H₂O)] (1) and also a 2-D coordination polymer [Ni(OBC)(bipyen)]· H₂O (2), respectively. A reversible de-coordination and re-coordination of an aqua ligand was observed for polymer 1. Polymer 2 has an undulated 2-D network based on 50-membered rectangular grids, each of which has the dimension of 13.61 × 13.17 Å.

The hydrothermal reaction of Co(NO₃)₂ㆍ6H₂O, trans-1,2-bis(4-pyridyl) ethylene (bipyen), and a bent 4,4'-oxybis(benzoic acid) (OBCH₂) gave a 2-D coordination polymer [Co(OBC)(bipyen)]ㆍH₂O(1). X-ray structure determination revealed that polymer 1 has a 2-D network based on 50-membered rectangular grids, each of which has the dimension of 13.74×13.20Å.

The hydrothermal reaction of Ni(NO₃)·6H₂O with 4.4'-oxybis(benzoic acid) (OBCH₂) and trans-1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene (bipyen) led to the formation of a 3-dimensional coordination polymer with the empirical formular of [Ni(OBC)(bipyen)]·H₂O. The complex has been characterized by X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, TGA, IR, X-ray power diffraction (XRPD), It crystallized triclinic space group P1 with a = 9.280(2)Å., b = 11.317(4) Å, c = 12.442(3) Å, Z = 2, R (ωR₂) = 0.0346 (0.0846).
