  • For the past several years, we have built various tools for automatic construction of biopathways to help biological experts, especially in the field of agriculture. We integrated several systems for constructing web applications for analyzing biological pathway information for agricultural species, constructing optimized pathway maps. In addition to building web applications for agricultural pathway information, we developed several stand-alone software tools, which are publicly downloadable under proper license agreements.

  • The current study of complex dynamical networks is pervading all kinds of sciences today, ranging from physical to biological, even to social sciences. its impact on modern engineering and technology is prominent and will be far-reaching. Typical complex dynamical networks include the World Wide Web, the Internet, various wireless communication networks, meta-bolic networks, biological neural networks, social connection networks, scientific cooperation and citation networks, and so on. Research on fundamental properties and dynamical features of such complex networks have become overwhelm ing. This talk will provide a brief overview of some basic concepts about com plex dynamical netwo...

  • Twenty South Korean tiphiid species are taxonomically reviewed. Among them, Tiphia burrelli is new to Korea. Based on the observation of the holotype, Tiphia seoulensis Tsuneki 1986 is synomymized with T rufomandibulata Smith 1873. Male of T koreana hitherto unknown is newly described. Revised key to species, recognizable characters and digital images are provided. Genital structures of several species hitherto unknown are also given.

  • Two species in the genus Stelletta, Stelletta crusta n. sp and Stelletta maxima Thiele, 1898 have been Collected from Geomundo Island. Stelletta crusta n. sp is similar to Stelletta tetrafurcata Hoshino, 1981 in the clade of the dichotriaenes which is trifurcate or multifurcate but both species differ in spicule size and composition. Stelletta maxima is first recorded in the Korean fauna.

  • Industrial wastewater with high ammonium concentration was treated in batch biological systems which was a modified Ludzack- Ettinger process. Up to 78% conversion of $NH_4\;^+-N$ to $NO_x\;^--N$ was achieved in batch culture condition. Under anoxic condition with methanol as the carbon source, the denitrifiers decreased $NO_x\;^--N$ concentration from 608 mg/L to 5.6 mg/L in 22 d. As well as anoxic denitrification of $NO_x\;^-$ to $N_2$, dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium also occurred under the condition as respiratory denitrification.

  • Three Korean species of the subtribe Stigmina are treated: Carinostigmus filippovi Gussakovskij, Tzustigmus rhinocerous Budrys, and Stigmus japonicus Tsuneki. The last two genera and species are new to Korea. A key to Korean genera of the subtribe Stigmina and diagnostic features of three species with digital images are provided.

  • A new marine sponge in the family Tethyidae, Tethya uljinensis n. sp. was collected from Uljin, Korea in 2007. Halicometes koreana in the family Tethyidae was redescribed. Tethya uljiensis n. sp. is closely to Tethya simi. in skeletal structure and spicule composition. But, it differs in the size of spicules(stronyloxea) and shape of oxyaster.

  • A new species of the genus Biemna(Demospongiae: Poecilosclerida: Desmacellidae), Biemna hongdoensis n. sp. was collected from Hongdo Island, Korea by SCUBA diving in 2004. B. hongdoensis n. sp. is closely related to B. megalosigma Hentshel, 1912 in their spicules, but the styles and sigmas of new species are larger than B. megalosigma's and microxeas and raphides of new species are smaller than B. megalosigma's. Also, new species has not spheres. The stubby conulose are distributed throughout the surface of new species.
