  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between sleep quality and stress among nursing students. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 94 nursing students from a University in Seoul. Participants completed questionnaires and the data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: The mean score of sleep quality was $6.93{\pm}2.66$ among nursing students and 81.9% had a sleep problem. The mean score of stress was $18.61{\pm}4.84$. Sleep quality was significantly different by clinical practice days per week, subjective physical health status, and subjective mental health status. Stress levels were significantly different by subjective physical health status, subjective mental health status, social relationship satisfaction, and satisfaction levels of nursing major and university. A significant relationship between sleep quality and stress (r= .45, p< .001) was found, meaning that a lower quality of sleep was significantly correlated with higher stress level. Conclusion: The results indicated that most nursing students had sleep problems and stress. Therefore, interventions are needed to be developed to lower the level of stress and increase the quality of sleep among nursing students.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the experiences and perceptions of nursing students related to their cadaver practice through an integrative review. Methods: An integrative review was conducted using Whittemore and Knafl's framework published in 2005. The key words, "nursing students & cadaver" and "nursing students & anatomy" were used to search peer-reviewed publications in six databases. Among 373 searched articles, 15 articles were selected after excluding articles that did not meet the inclusion criteria. The literature quality was moderate (levels C and B). Results: The results from the 15 selected studies were integrated and classified into seven themes: "anxiety and discomfort," "gratitude and respect for donors," "dignity of the human body and life," "acceptance of death," "getting closer to the nursing profession," "enhanced understanding and memory of the human body" and "enhancement of learning motivation." Conclusion: In conclusion, cadaver practice provided an opportunity to form values about the dignity of life and death, helped nursing students understand the human body, and motivated them to approach the profession of nursing. It is suggested to develop integrated cadaver practice programs that incorporate bioethics, spiritual nursing, and the vocation of the nursing profession.

  • Nursing education in Korea has made rapid progress recently. There is .: great deal of support with approval and encouragement of this progress. However, much disapproval of its validity has asserted some restraints on it. The aims of nursing education should be based on the principle that education is planned according to tile need much research has been made with such a viewpoint but much still remains unclear. The present study is aimed at establishing the needs for nursing manpower based on the biological demand for medical care. The needs for nursing manpower have been emphasized by many researchers and authorities on nursing education, and the prevailing medical trends also demand it. In this study, through the study of various hooks and records concerned, and the compiling of data analysis and questionnaires, I came to the following figures for the proposed needs of nursing manpower: There figures are greater than those calculated by another method by the government research program but it shows approximately the same final figure as that of the government report for the end of the target year. With these findings, I concluded that: 1) As the final purpose of the government medical project is to fulfill the needs of the national health (that is, to support the national needs for medical care), the plan of this project should follow the theory of biological demand for medical care, recognizing that the numbers will increase gradually. 2) Qualitative growth, based on the advanced and specialized nursing profession. should be promoted to meet the rapid growth of the medical needs of the nation in addition to promoting of investments for the facilities. and of the preparatory investments for education needs. 3) For efficient and economic utilization of nursing manpower, the improvement of wages, and the offering of free education is necessary. 4) Amendments to the low promising innovation and advancement of medical treatment; preparation of a national fund for medical care; and, changing of national attitudes to bring about greater concern are desirable.

  • Purpose: This study was undertaken to identify the knowledge and compliance level of nursing students. It was based on self-administered questionnaires about multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs). Methods: The test group was 184 nursing students who had contact with MDROs during clinical practice. The study was conducted from May 1 to September 16, 2011. Results: The average knowledge level of MDROs was 16.20 (correct answer rate: 67.5%). The nurses' compliance level of MDROs infection control was on average 40.50 (range: 13-52). "Hand hygiene" ranked highest in the compliance level of MDROs infection control. The lowest level of MDRO infection control was the wearing of disposable aprons or gowns. Conclusion: This study demonstrated the nursing students' knowledge and the compliance level of infection control. We suggest that nursing students receive mandated systematic education of MDROs in the nursing curriculum. And clinical practice experience of MDROs infection control is required in hospitals. These steps will help prevent transmission of MDROs in nursing settings.

  • There have been many trials of clinical efficacy of multi component and single component treatments for irritable bowel syndrome(IBS). We reviewed effects of non phamacological treatments in the IBS. Though the efficacy of multi-component approaches was unclear, several results suggest that cognitive behavioral therapy was effective in improving gastrointestinal symptoms of IBS. As a single component, cognitive therapy and relaxation with or without biofeedback could improve the symptoms and psychological health of IBS patients. Yoga, meditation, self-help information and hypnotherapy could be applicable to IBS.
