A need exists for the accurate identification of time series models having time varying parameters, as is important in the case of real time identification of nonstationary EMG signal. Thls paper describes real time identification and muscle fatigue monitoring method of nonstationary EMG signal. The method is composed of the efficient identifier which estimates the autoregressive parameters of nonstationary EMG signal model, and its real time implementation by using T805 parallel processing computer. The method is verified through experiment with real EMG signals which are obtained from surface electrode. As a result, the proposed method provides a new approach for real time Implementation of muscle fatigue monitoring and the execution time is 0.894ms/sample for 1024Hz EMG signal.
Wearable computing is growing rapidly as research on body area communication network using wireless sensor network technology is actively conducted. In particular, there is an increasing interest in smart clothing measuring unrestrained and insensitive bio signals, and research is being actively conducted. However, research on smart clothing is mainly based on 1: 1 wireless communication. In this paper, we propose a multi-access monitoring system that can measure bio-signals by multiple users wearing smart clothing. The proposed system consists of wireless access device, multiple access control server and monitoring system. It also provides a service that allows multiple users to monitor and measure bio signals at the same time.
Capacitive-type humidity sensors with a high sensitivity and fast response/recovery times have attracted a great attention in non-contact respiration biological signal monitoring applications. However, complicated fabrication processes involving high-temperature heat treatment for the hygroscopic film is essential in the conventional ceramic-based humidity sensors. In this study, a non-toxic ceramic/metal halide (BaTiO3(BT)/NaCl) humidity sensor was prepared at room temperature using a solvent-free aerosol deposition process (AD) without any additional process. Currently prepared BT/NaCl humidity sensor shows an excellent sensitivity (245 pF/RH%) and superior response/recovery times (3s/4s) due to the NaCl ionization effect resulting in an immense interfacial polarization. Furthermore, the non-contact respiration signal variation using the BT/NaCl sensor was determined to be over 700% by maintaining the distance of 20 cm between the individual and the sensor. Through the AD-fabricated sensor in this study, we expect to develop a non-contact biological signal monitoring system that can be applied to various fields such as respiratory disease detection and management, infant respiratory signal observation, and touchless skin moisture sensing button.
A fermentation system was supplemented with a device for the measurement of the durations of alkali pump feeding for automatic pH control and an A/D convertor for precise monitoring of pH value by computer. A software program was developed to measure buffer capacities from the pH signal and the pH control signal during fermentation. By measuring the buffer capacity on-line, levels of acetic acid were estimated by a software sensor using pH signal in a fermentation process of E.coli growing in a minimal medium. The measured values of acetic acid showed correlation to those of estimated by the software sensor. Lacitic acid production was also successfully estimated by the values of buffer capacities measured on-line.
The development of technology has led to ubiquitous health care service, which enables many patients to receive medical services anytime and anywhere. For the ubiquitous health care environment, real-time measurement of biomedical signals is very important, and the medical instruments must be small and portable or wearable. So, such devices have been developed to measure biomedical signals. In this study, we develop the biomedical monitoring device which is sensing the PPG signal, one of the useful signal in the field of ubiquitous healthcare. We design a watch-like biomedical signal monitoring system without a finger probe to prevent the user's inconvenience. This system obtains the PPG from the radial artery using a sensor in the wrist band. But, new device developed in this paper is easy to get the motion artifacts. So, we proposed new algorithm removing the motion artifacts from the PPG signal. The method detects motion artifacts by changing the degree of brightness of the light source. If the brightness of the light source is reduced, the PPG pulses will disappear. When the PPG pulses have disappeared completely, the remaining signal is not the signal that results from the changing blood flow. We believe that this signal is the motion artifact and call it the noise reference signal. The motion artifacts are removed by subtracting the noise reference signal from the input signal. We apply this algorithm to the system, so we can stabilize the biomedical monitoring system we designed.
Digital fetal monitoring system based on the personal computer combined with the digital signal processing (DSP) board was implemented. The DSP board acquires and digitally processes ultra- sound fetal Doppler signal for digital signal conditioning, rectification, low -pass filtering, autocorrealtion function calculation and its peak detection. The personal computer interfaced with the DSP board is in charge of graphic display, hardcopy, data transmission and on -line analysis of fetal heart rate change including on - line warning system, base -line estmation, acceleration, deceleration and variability. It is one of the most suitable situation to apply the DSP chip for siganl conditioning, digital filtering of ultrasound fetal Dopier signal and fetal heart rate estimation using autocorrelation technique .
A wireless 3 channel ECG monitoring system was developed so that it could monitor the health and movement state during subject's daily life. The developed system consists of a wireless biomedical signal acquisition device, a personal healthcare server, and a remote medical server. Three experiments were performed to evaluate the accuracy, reliability and operability, applicability during daily life of the developed device. First, ECG signals were measured using the developed device and commercial reference device during sitting and marking time and compared to verify the accuracy of R-R intervals. Second, the reliable data transmission to remote server was verified on two types of simulated emergency event using patient simulator. Third, during five types of motion in daily life, the accuracy of data transmission to remote server using CDMA network was verified on two types of event occurring. By acquiring and comparing subject's biomedical signal and motion signal, the accuracy, reliability and operability, applicability during daily life of the developed device were verified. In addition, PDA-phone based wireless system enabled subject to be monitored without any constraints. Therefore, the developed system is expected to be applicable for monitoring the aged and chronic diseased people and giving first-aid in emergency.
