폐식용유 재활용 제품의 환경성 평가 (Environmental Impact Evaluation of the Waste Cooking Oil Recycling Products)

  • In this study, Life Cycle Assessment(LCA) was applied to the production processes of waste cooking oil recycling products. Recycling products as defined in the Law of Saving of Resources and Recycling Promotion are biodiesel and soap. Weighting result of biodiesel production process showed that the most significant impact potential was abiotic resource depletion(84.17%) followed by global warming(13.93%). In the case of the soap, the most significant impact potential was also abiotic resource depletion(58.59%) followed by global warming(33.71%). In terms of the whole system of the biodiesel production process, methanol showed the largest environmental impact potential(87.35%). While in the case of the soap, sodium chloride showed the largest environmental impact potential(99.99%). This study suggests that there should be improvement of the methanol recovery system in the biodiesel production process and also appropriate use of the major environmental impact materials in both processes.

  • Biodiesel was well known for eco-friendly alternative fuel for petrodiesel. But biodiesel have disadvantage such like it was derived from food resource which was high price. In this study, We synthesized the biodiesel from duck's oil which was food trash via transesterification under base catalyst. After analytic result of density, kinematic viscosity, cold temperature characteristics, lubricity and cetane number which were main fuel characteristics, this duck's biodiesel have enough to fuel specification for except of domestic winter season.

Performance characteristics of a single-cylinder power tiller engine with biodiesel produced from mixed waste cooking oil

  • Biodiesel is a clean energy resource that can replace diesel as fuel, which can be used without any structural changes to the engine. Vegetable oil accounts for 95 percent of the raw materials used to produce biodiesel. Thus, many problems can arise, such as rising prices of food resources and an imbalance between supply and demand. Most of the previous studies using waste cooking oil used waste cooking oil from a single material. However, the waste cooking oil that is actually collected is a mixture of various types of waste cooking oil. Therefore, in this study, biodiesel produced with mixed waste cooking oil was supplied to an agricultural single-cylinder diesel engine to assess its potential as an alternative fuel. Based on the results, the brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) increased compared to diesel, and the axis power decreased to between 70 and 99% compared to the diesel. For emissions, NOx and CO2 were increased, but CO and HC were decreased by up to 1 to 7% and 16 to 48%, respectively, compared to diesel. The emission characteristics of the mixed waste cooking oil biodiesel used in this study were shown to be similar to those of conventional vegetable biodiesel, confirming its potential as a fuel for mixed waste cooking oil biodiesel.

Fuel properties of biodiesel produced from beef-tallow and corn oil blends based on the variation in the fatty acid methyl ester composition

  • Biodiesels are being explored as a clean energy alternative to regular diesel, which causes pollution. In this study, the optimum conditions for producing biodiesel (BD) by combining beef tallow, an animal waste resource with a high saturated fatty acid content, and corn oil, a vegetable oil with a high unsaturated fatty acid content, were investigated, and the fuel properties were analyzed. Furthermore, Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) was used to verify the optimum conditions for producing biodiesel. The influences of control factors, such as the oil blend ratio and methanol to oil molar ratio, on the fatty acid methyl ester and biodiesel production yield were investigated. As a result, the optimum condition for producing blended biodiesel was verified to be tallow to corn oil blend ratio of 7 : 3 (TACO7) and a methanol to oil molar ratio of 14 : 1. Moreover, the interaction between the oil blend ratio and the methanol to oil molar ratio has the most crucial effects on the production of oil blended biodiesel. In conclusion, the analysis results of the fuel properties of TACO7 BD satisfied the BD quality standard, and thus, the viability of BD blended with waste tallow as fuel was verified.

  • 바이오디젤은 기존석유디젤을 대체할 수 있는 친환경적인 연료로 알려져 있다. 하지만 원료물질이 대부분 가격이 높은 식량자원을 이용한다는 단점을 지니고 있다. 본 연구에서는 음식쓰레기로 생긴 오리기름을 전처리 한 후, 염기촉매를 이용하여 전이에스테르화 반응을 통해 바이오디젤을 합성하였다. 합성되어진 바이오디젤의 대표적 연료특성으로 밀도, 동점도, 저온특성, 윤활성, 세탄가를 분석한 결과, 국내에서 동절기 외에는 충분히 석유대체연료로 사용 가능하다는 결과를 얻었다.

수송부문의 연료 간 대체와 이산화탄소 배출: 바이오디젤 혼소 효과를 중심으로 (Interfuel Substitution and Carbon Dioxide Emission in the Transportation Sector: Roles of Biodiesel Blended Fuels)

  • 본 연구는 차분연료배분모형을 이용하여 수송부문에서의 연료 간 대체성을 추정하고, 연료 간 대체에 따른 이산화탄소 배출효과를 살펴본다. 분석결과를 정리하면, 첫째, 수송부문은 경유에 대한 의존도가 매우 높아 디비지아 탄력성이 가장 큰 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 연료별 자기가격탄력성은 모두 음(-)의 값을 보였으며, 경유의 자체가격탄력성이 휘발유와 LPG에 비해 상대적으로 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 휘발유와 경유, 휘발유와 전기, 경유와 LPG는 대체관계를 보였으며, 경유와 전기는 보완관계를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 연료별 대체성과 배출계수를 이용한 결과, 바이오디젤을 경유에 혼합하는 경우 이산화탄소 감축 효과가 있으나, 주로 연료별 가격 변화에 따른 연료 간 대체가 이산화탄소 배출을 결정짓는 것으로 나타났다.

Biodiesel Production From Fat of Tra Catfish and Basa Catfish (Viet Nam) Using Alkaline Catalysts

  • The fat of Tra and Basa catfish (Mekong Delta, Viet Nam) was evaluated for the first time as the potential feedstock for biodiesel production, due to its abundance, availability and cheap cost. The unsaturated fatty acid contents of Tra and Basa fat were 57.97% and 64.17%, respectively. Biodiesel was prepared from Tra and Basa fat by methanolysis reaction using alkali catalysts like sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide. Effects of various process parameters on biodiesel production, such as molar ratio of methanol to fat, catalyst concentration, temperature and time were investigated. As those results, the transesterification can be performed under moderate conditions, and the biodiesel yields were shown more than 90%. KOH catalyst was the best catalyst for biodiesel production from both Basa and Tra fat. As the feedstock aspect, Basa fat was indicated more efficiency than that of Tra fat. The maximum yield could be achieved by the transesterification from Basa fat with 5:1 molar ratio of methanol to fat, 0.8% KOH catalyst, $50^{\circ}C$, and 50 min. For Tra fat, the optimal condition were at 6:1 molar ratio of methanol to fat, 0.8% KOH catalyst, $50^{\circ}C$, and 45 min. Nowadays, due to cheaper cost and abundance, Tra fat is a promised resource for cheap biodiesel production in Viet Nam.

관세철폐가 친환경연료 산업에 미치는 일반균형적 파급 효과 (General Equilibrium Effects of Trade Liberalization on the Diffusion of Environment-friendly Fuels)

  • 본 연구는 우리나라가 자유무역정책을 실시할 경우 경제 전반과 친환경연료인 바이오디젤 산업에 미치는 영향을 정태적 연산가능일반균형모형(CGE)을 이용하여 분석하였다. 이론적으로 자유무역과 환경 간의 관계에 대해서는 '공해안식처 가설'이 1970~1980년대를 풍미하였으나, 1990년대 이후 Townsend and Ratnayakee 등은 자유무역이 생산효과, 규모효과, 구조효과, 규제효과를 통해 친환경기술 도입을 촉진하는 기능이 있음을 역설한 바 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 측면에서 과연 무역자유화의 효과로서 관세철폐가 우리나라 바이오디젤 산업에 어떤 영향을 미칠 수 있는지를 정량적으로 분석했다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 연구 결과 관세가 철폐되면 농업부문 산출은 전반적으로 감소하는 반면, 바이오디젤 산업은 팽창하며, GDP와 소비자 후생이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 바이오디젤 산업이 팽창하는 것은 원료인 대두유가 해외에서 수입됨에 따라 관세를 철폐할 경우 원료 수입가격이 하락하기 때문이다. 즉, 토지 생산성 측면에서 우리나라에서 생산되는 원료를 바이오디젤 원료로 이용하기보다는 동남아나 북 중남미 등에서 원료를 개척하여 수입하는 것이 경제적 이익을 극대화할 수 있고, 자유무역은 이를 더욱 가속화시킬 수 있다는 것이다.

  • Life cycle assessment(LCA) is acknowledged as a valuable tool to quantify the environment impact of agricultural practice as well as final product(biodiesel) considering whole life cycle of the target product. As a preliminary research of LCA study for rapeseed(Brassica napus L.) biodiesel, the methodological issues which have to be regarded with high priority were dealt with. No life cycle inventory(LCI) based on local data are currently available for LCA of rapeseed cultivation, crushing, and conversion to rapeseed methyl ester(RME) in Korea. In this paper, the life cycle of rapeseed and methodological factors which have to be measured for building LCI of each process are provided and discussed, which are including seed, fertilizer, energy use in rapeseed cultivation environment; and crushing, RME conversion, and transportation in biodiesel production.

PPS시스템 이용 바이오디젤 혼합율에 따른 극미세입자 배출특성 비교 (Comparison of Nano-particle Emission Characteristics in CI Engine with Various Biodiesel Blending Rates by using PPS System)

  • The main purpose of this study is to analyze and compare the nano-particle emission characteristics by 3-different biodiesel blending rates in a CI engine. Nano-particle number density emitted from various operating conditions of compression ignition engine can be investigated by using the PPS (Pegasor Particle Sensor) system. Namely, some particle charged through the corona discharge in real-time can be measured by PPS system. Under the steady state operation of the 2.0L CRDi diesel engine with different operating condition and biodiesel blending rates, the nano-particle number density was analyzed at the downstream position of DOC system. As this research result, more engine load speed and higher the concentration of biodiesel blending rate showed that the nano-particle number density decreases. Also we found that DOC system for clean diesel engine is effectively useful instrument to reduce diesel particulate matter as resource of nano-particle generation.
