  • As diverse synthetic precursors of cyclic adenosine diphosphate ribose (cADPR), several adenosine derivatives in which azido or amino group is introduced at 2'- or 3'-position of the sugar moiety of adenosine were prepared from readily available adenosine via conventional protocols. These synthetic sequence employs very efficient reactions conditions that proceed at or below ambient temperature with actual yields of >80% for each individual step.

  • Bioglass which is one of the surface active bionmaterials has a good biocompatibility but a poor mechanical strength, In the present work therefore two types of fluoride-containing bioglasses were coated on an alumina to improve mechanical strength. Crystallization of the coating layer and the hydroxyapatite formation on the bioactive glass coatings in tris-buffer solution were studied. When bioactive glass coated alumina was heat-treated Na2CaSi3O8 crystal was formed on the layer at lower temperature while wollastonite(CaSIO3) was obtained at higher temperature. Hydroxyapatite forming rate on the coating layer with Na2CaSi3O8 crystal was delayed with SiO2 contents in glass composition. However the hydroxyapatite was developed in 20minutes regardless SiO2 contents when the coating layer crystallized into wollastonite. More amount of P3+ ions were leached out of the coating layer with wollastonite than that with Na2CaSi3O8 crystal while Na+ and Ca2+ ions were leached out more easily from the Na2CaSi3O8 crystal containing coating layer.

  • Foods and related substances from diverse sources known to have a potential for disease risk reduction are called functional foods, while nutraceuticals are bioactive compounds isolated from food and sold in dosage form. Nutraceutical and functional food industries are rapidly growing in recent years and most of the cases development of these functional materials involves certain biotransformation processes. A number of bioactive compounds has been identified up to date and isolated from seafood related products through enzyme-mediated hydrolysis. The enzymatic bioconversion process require suitable biocatalysts and appropriate bioreactor systems to incubate byproducts with digestive enzymes. Membrane bioreactor technology is recently emerging for the development of bioactive compounds from seafood processing byproducts.

  • Mycoflora was assessed in the commercial meju from four well-separated geographic origins. A total of 112 fungal isolates were identified by phenotypic characteristics and molecular taxonomy using sequencing the internal transcribed spacer of the rDNA and revealed 19 species from 13 genera. Enzymatic characteristics of protease and amylase, and mycotoxin production were analyzed.

  • New and improved preparations of structurally modified nucleosides are important goals in synthetic organic chemistry because of the potential utility of these compounds as synthetic precursors of many biologically active molecules in cells. In our program to synthesize the bioactive nucleosides, such as AdoHcy hydrolase inhibitors and cyclic adenosine diphosphoribose(cADPR) analogues. (omitted)

  • S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine(AdoHcy) is the product of all biological methylation in which S-adenosyl-L-methionine (AdoMet) is utilized as a methyl donor and is reversibly hydrolyzed to L-homocysteine and adenosine by AdoHcy hydrolase physiologically. Inhibition of this enzyme results in intracelluar accumulation of AdoHcy leading to a feedback inhibition of AdoMet-dependent methylation reactions which are essential for viral replication. • Mushrooms are known for their various attributes in the fields of nutrition and therapeutics. With exceptional taste, aroma, and nutritional value, they are considered 'functional food'-improving health and providing nutritional benefits to the body. Mushrooms have also been widely applied therapeutically as they possess diverse bioactive compounds known as secondary metabolites. These secondary metabolites demonstrated diverse biological properties such as anticancer, anti-diabetic, immunomodulatory, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, anti-allergic, and antioxidative activities. This review presents bioactive compounds from the field of mushroom metabolite research and discusses important findings regarding bioactive compounds identified during the last five years (2015 - 2019).
