  • In this study, a comprehensive field monitoring was conducted to understand habitat conditions of fish species in the upper Geum river. Based on the monitoring data, riverine health conditions such as composition ratio of fish species, richness and dominance indexes, bio-diversity (dominance index, diversity, evenness and richness), and index of biological integrity were assessed, and optimal ecological flowrates were estimated using the habitat suitability indexes established for three fish species Coreoleuciscus splendidus, Zacco platypus and Pseudopungtungia nigra selected as icon species using the physical habitat simulation system (PHABSIM). The total number of species sampled was 20 species, and two sensitive species of C. splendidus (22.4%) and Z. platypus (22.0%) dominated the fish community. The estimated IBI values ranged from 34 to 42 with average being 38 out of 50, rendering the site ecologically fair to good health conditions. An optimal ecological flowrate of 9.0 cms was recommended for the representative fish species at the site.

  • Recently, as the uncontact service is activated in earnest due to the Corona 19 virus, the necessity of system development to provide non-face-to-face contact remote medical service has increased. In this study, we propose a smart healthcare system, Rm_She(Remote Medical Smart Healthcare System). Rm_She can collect and manage various vital signs information by connecting various healthcare products that detect bio-signals based on IoT to one application. The health check app (HC_app) is used to connect vital sign measurement devices to a wireless LAN and receive vital sign values from the HC_app. Then, the vital signs are output to the user on the smartphone, and the corresponding information is transmitted to the healthcare management server. The healthcare server receives the measured values and stores them in a database, and the stored measured values are provided as a web service so that medical staff can remotely monitor them in real time.

  • The SBR(Sequencing Batch Reactor) process is ideally suited to treat high loading wastewater due to its high dilution rate. SBR operates by a cycle of periods consisting of filling, reacting, settling, decanting and idling. The react phases such as aeration or non-aeration, organic oxidation, nitrification, denitrification and other bio-logical reactions can be achieved in a reactor. Although the whole reactions can be achieved in a SBR with time distributing, it is hard to manage the SBR as a normal condition without recognizing a present state. The present state can be observed with nutrient sensors such as NH4+N, NO2N, ${NO_{3}}^{-}-N} and PO43P. However, there is still a disadvantage to use the nutrient sensors because of their high expense and inconvenience to manage. Therefore, it is very useful to use common on-line sensors such as DO, ORP and pH, which are less expensive and more convient. Moreover, the present states and unexpected changes of SBR might be predicted by using of them. This study was conducted to get basic materials for making an inference of SBR process from ORP(oxidation reduction potential) of synthetic wastewater. The profiles of ORP, DO, and pH were under normal nitrification and denitrification were obtained to compare abnormal condition. And also, nitrite and nitrate accumulation were investigated during reaction of SBR. The bending point on ORP profile was not entirely in the low COD/NOx ratio condition. In this case, NOx was not entirely removed, and minimum ORP value was presented over -300mV. Under suitable COD/NOx ratio which complete denitrification was achieved, ORP bending point was observed and minimum ORP value was under -300m V. Under high COD/NOx ratio, ORP bending point was not detected at the first subcycle because of the fast denitrification and minimum ORP value was under -300mV at the time.

  • This study was performed to evaluate void ratio, compressive and flexural strengths, and pH properties according to the content ratio of rice husk ash, aggregate size, and neutral treatment time of porous concrete with content of rice husk ash produced as an agricultural by-product. The SEM results for cement mortar with a 5% rice husk ash for the weight of cement formed more C-S-H hydrates due to the SiO2 of rice husk ash. In the XRD test, cement mortar with a 5% rice husk ash for the weight of cement registered a higher peak point of approximately 2θ=2025 compared to cement mortar without rice husk ash. According to the results of the XRD and SEM tests, the SiO2 that was a major chemical element of rice husk ash generated a large amount of calcium hydroxide in the early stage of the hydration process of cement leading to the formation of ettringite. The void ratio of porous concrete with rice husk ash decreased with increasing content ratio of rice husk ash. In addition, the void ratio of porous concrete with rice husk ash decreased compared to porous concrete without rice husk ash. The compressive and flexural strength of porous concrete with a 5% and 10% content ratio of rice husk ash slightly increased compared to concrete without rice husk ash. The pH value of porous concrete rapidly decreased immediately after neutral treatment. Then, it gradually increased and decreased again after 14 days. However, the pH value was nearly the same regardless of neutral treatment time in 28 curing days. Also, for neutral treatment, the pH value of porous concrete showed appropriate pH levels (less than 9.5) in all mixtures for planting at 28 curing days.

  • In the present study, the antinociceptive profiles of Agrimonia pilosa Ledeb extract were examined in ICR mice. Agrimonia pilosa Ledeb extract administered orally (200 mg/kg) showed an antinociceptive effect as measured by the tail-flick and hot-plate tests. In addition, Agrimonia pilosa Ledeb extract attenuated the writhing numbers in the acetic acid-induced writhing test. Furthermore, the cumulative nociceptive response time for intrathecal (i.t.) injection of substance P (0.7 μg) was diminished by Agrimonia pilosa Ledeb extract. Intraperitoneal (i.p.) pretreatment with yohimbine (α2-adrenergic receptor antagonist) attenuated antinociceptive effect induced by Agrimonia pilosa Ledeb extract in the writhing test. However, naloxone (opioid receptor antagonist) or methysergide (5-HT serotonergic receptor antagonist) did not affect antinociception induced by Agrimonia pilosa Ledeb extract in the writhing test. Our results suggest that Agrimonia pilosa Ledeb extract shows an antinociceptive property in various pain models. Furthermore, this antinociceptive effect of Agrimonia pilosa Ledeb extract may be mediated by α2-adrenergic receptor, but not opioidergic and serotonergic receptors.

  • This research was conducted on the conservation area of Baekdudaegan, Kangwondo under the purpose of evaluating bio-diversity according to the changes of spatial scale, using GIS data and spatial filtering method. The diversity index was calculated based on the information of species of The 5th forest type map using Shannon-weaver index (H'), evenness index (Ei) and richness index (Ri). The diversity index was analyzed and compared according to the changes of 12 spatial scales from Kernel size 3×3 to 73×73 and basin unit. As for H' and Ri, spatial scale increased as diversity index decreased, while Ei decreases gradually. H' and Ri was highest; each 1.1 and 0.6, when the Kernel size was 73×73, while Ei was 0.2, the lowest. When you look at according to the basin unit, for large basin unit, 'YeongDong' region shows higher diversity index than 'YeongSeo' region. For middle basin unit, 'Gangneung Namdaecheon' region, and for small basin unit, 'Gangneung Namdaecheon' and 'Gangneung Ohbongdaem' region shows high diversity index. When you look at the relationship between diversity index and Geographic factors, H' shows positive relation to curvature and sunshine factor while shows negative to elevation, slope, hillshade, and wetness index. Also Ei was similar to the relationship between H' and Geographic factor. Meanwhile, Ri shows positive relationship to curvature and sunshine factor, while negative to elevation, slope, hillshade, and wetness index. macro unit diversity index evaluation was possible through the GIS data and spatial filtering, and it can be a good source for local biosphere conservation policy making.

  • Atmospheric plasma's electron temperature is less than thermal plasma, so it is useful at bio experiment. We have investigated the optical emission spectroscopy (OES) lines by spectrometer during Atmospheric plasma bombardment onto the PBS surface by using an Ar gas flow. Also we have measured the OH radical density inside the solution induced by the Atmospheric plasma bombardment. OH radical species are appeared at 308 nm and 309 nm. Densities of OH radical species has been found to be significantly decreased versus depth of the solution from 2 mm to 6 mm. OH radical density inside the PBS is measured to be about 1.87×1016cm3 downstream at 2 mm from the surface under optimized Ar gas flow of 200 sccm in Atmospheric plasma. Also we have investigated cell viability of lung cancer and normal cell after Atmospheric plasma treatment for fixed exposure time in 60 seconds, but different depths. We used SEM, we observed change of cell morphorogy, did experiment about FDA & PI Staining method. It is found that there is selectivity between the lung cancer and lung normal cell, in which cancer cell definitely has higher cell death ratio more than normal cell. We have investigated change of bond structure in FT-IR spectroscopy, the following peaks were observed: and intense O-H peak at 3422 cm-1 and at 2925 cm-1 corresponds to C-H stretch vibrations of methylene group.

  • Culture-independent 16S rDNA-DGGE profiling and phylogenetic analysis were used to examine the predominant bacterial communities associated with the two sponges, Dictyonella sp. and Spirastrella abata from Jeju island. The culture-independent approach involved extraction of total bacterial DNA, PCR amplification of the 16S ribosomal DNA using primer pair 341f-GC and 518r, and separation of the amplicons on a denaturing gradient gel. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis banding patterns indicated 8 and 7 bands from the two sponge species, Dictyonella sp. and Spirastrella abata, respectively. There were not common major bands in two different sponges. Comparative sequence analysis of variable DGGE bands revealed from 93% to 98% similarity to the known published sequences. The dominant bacterial group of Dictyonella sp. belonged to uncultured Gammaproteobacteria, while, that of Spirastrella abata belonged to uncultured Alphaproeobacteria and Firmicutes. DGGE analysis indicated predominant communities of the sponge-associated bacteria differ in the two sponges from the same geographical location. This result revealed that bacterial community profiles of the sponges were host species-specific.

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate the antioxidative activity of crackers made with a guava(Psidium guajava Linn.) leaf extract harvested in Korea. Guava leaf extraction using boiling water showed significantly higher antioxidative activities than extracting using 70% ethanol based on the higher total phenolic contents, FRAP, and ABTS assays(p<0.05). The crackers containing 1% guava leaf extract, and 0.075% BHT were stored at 63C for 7 days for the Schaal oven test, and the oxidative stability(AV, POV), antioxidative activity(DPPH, FRAP, ABTS assay), and sensory evaluation were compared. The crackers containing 1% guava leaf extract were found to have a higher oxidative stability than the control due to a lower acid value and peroxide value after 7 days of storage. The antioxidative activities of the crackers containing 1% guava leaf extract was the highest after 7 days as determined in the DPPH and ABTS assay, and was lower than crackers containing 0.075% BHT after 4 days as assessed by the FRAP assay. In the sensory evaluation, the crackers containing the 1% guava leaf extract had the highest scores in terms of taste, texture, and overall palatability than others at increasing storage time. As a result, the addition of 1% guava leaf extract harvested in Korea increased the antioxidative effect as well as the sensory acceptability of crackers.
