Mehtods: The vision training observation group included 35 clients who had binocular vision disorders without opthalmic diseases or vertical phoria. They took the each vision training once a week for eight weeks and were investigated for the function and sensation symptoms changes of binocular vision. Results: According to the results, all vision training methods showed improvement of binocular vision function and sensation symptoms. For Worth 4 Dot test, Titmus test and red lenses observed the changes in fusion rate, all the training methods showed similar improvements. Conclusions: The study proved that vision training methods for patients with binocular vision was effective for the improvement of the phoria, function and sensation symptoms of these patients.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine if monocular and binocular accommodative facility tests would be useful in diagnosing general binocular dysfunctions. Methods: 95 symptomatic children, who were selected from comprehensive vision tests, were classified into four groups (29 subjects with accommodative dysfunctions, 28 subjects with vergence dysfunctions, 25 subjects with combined accommodative and vergence dysfunctions, 13 subjects with normal binocular functions). Monocular and binocular accommodative facility was measured with ${\pm}$2.00 D flipper lenses. Results: Statistical analysis revealed that binocular accommodative facility measurement was significantly lower than monocular accommodative measurement in the vergence dysfunction group (p<0.01). However, there were no differences between monocular and binocular accommodative facility measurements in the group of accommodative or combined accommodative and vergence dysfunction (p>0.05). In addition, subjects with general binocular dysfunctions performed significantly poorer than subjects with normal binocular function on monocular and binocular accommodative facility (p<0.000). Conclusions: As a result of this study, monocular and binocular accommodative facility test, which could differentiate dysfunction from normal as well as between dysfunctions, indicated useful means for diagnosis of general binocular dysfunctions.

  • To Analysis of Correlation of Visual Function Findings, by assessing convergence and accommodation, 92 selected objects without any ocular diseases by apperatuses of visual chart(Shinnippon CT30) and phoropter(Shinnippon VT10) at a shan distance(40 cm) were tested upon MEM retinoscopy(Welch Allyn, USA), BELL retinoscopy(Welch Allyn, USA), binocular accommodative facility (${\pm}2.00$ D nipper, Bernell Co., USA), vergence facility(prism nipper, Bernell Co., USA). The results showed as follows. MEM retinoscopy(accommodative lag) showed the same result of a right eye and left eye. Bell retinoscopy(accommodative lag) showed higher correlations between right and left eye than MEM. The lower accommodative lag meant the higher accommodative facility. The binocular accommodative facility(polaroid) was higher than binocular accommodative facility(red-green). Correlations of accommodative facility between right and left eye were higher, and as the higher monocular accommodative facility also meant the higher binocular accommodative facility, monocular and binocular accommodative facilities were relative to vergence facility, These findings can be used as a clinical guide by curing patients' visual function.

  • We constructed 3-D images by HMD (Head Mount Display) type and polarization technique through which a training instrument of binocular function based on clinical vision therapy was developed and investigated its demand. To design the instrument that performs Test- Diagnosis - (Prescription) - Training - Treatment we provided a customized training method for the trainers using optical IT instruments of binocular test. Through the contents and the instruments of the vision therapy technology developed in this work we can replace the current vision test instruments to those costing 60% lower price in eye clinics and eye glasses shops. By replacing the existing vision test instruments it is possible to create a new market of the vision therapy in vision training instruments.

  • Conventional stereoscopic (3D) displays using binocular parallax generate unnatural conflicts between convergence and accommodation. These conflicts can affect the observer's ability to fuse binocular images and may cause visual fatigue. In this study, time series changes in visual fatigue and depth sensation when viewing stereoscopic images with changing parallax were examined. In particular, the physiological changes, including the subjective symptoms of visual fatigue, when viewing five parallax conditions, were examined. Then a comparative analysis of the 2D and 3D conditions was performed based on the visual function. To obtain data regarding the visual function, the time series changes in the spontaneous-blinking rate before and during the viewing of 3D images were measured. The time series change results suggest that 2D and 3D images cause significantly different types of visual fatigue over the range of binocular disparity.

  • Purpose: In order to aggregate effect of the improvement of binocular vision function by vision therapy, total mean effect size, mean effect size by dependent variables, and effect size by characteristics of the subjects and characteristics of treatment were analyzed by meta-analysis. Methods: We analyzed data from 14 Korean National primary studies, which reported effects of vision therapy programs, using meta-analysis. Results: The effect size of total mean was 1.207, which showed high effect. The mean effect size according to the subcategory of the binocular dysfunctions was the highest for vergence dysfunctions group (2.989), followed by accommodative dysfunctions group (0.868) and group with both vergence dysfunctions and accommodative dysfunctions (0.692). The effect size according to the characteristics of the subjects was the highest in the vision therapy conducted in the binocular dysfunctions group (2.509) that had no other dysfunctions. The mean effect size according to the number of programs was the highest (2.310) for 7 times a week. Vision therapy for improving the binocular functions was the most effective (2.019) in 8 weeks later from vision therapy start. Conclusions: It can prove that the therapy for the improvement of binocular vision function is effective through that each result of the vision therapy effect is converted to mean effect size, and being objectifying the mean effect size.

  • This paper describes the development of the 3DDAC mk.4 system, which is a brand new implementation on the research program. The 3DDAC is a fatigue-less stereoscopic display system that is provided with a compensating function of accommodation for binocular disparity 3D image representation. The mk.4 system also features a light-weight HMD style.

  • The human vision system has visual functions for viewing 3D images with a correct depth. These functions are called accommodation, vergence and binocular stereopsis. Most 3D display system utilizes binocular stereopsis. The authors have developed a monocular 3D vision system with accommodation mechanism, which is useful function for perceiving depth.

  • In order to provide natural images with a specified depth through three-dimensional display system, the stereo images should be similar to those projected from real environment as much as possible. Even when two persons see an identical scene, the binocular Parallax between two images of an object varies as a function of one's inter-pupilary distance (IPD). In this study, we investigated whether individual differences, such as IPD and accommodative vergence, would affect the perception of three dimensional scene provided by stereo-images. Results showed that a person's IPD is correlated with the limit of screen and binocular parallax for single vision, and affects the perceived depth of an object on fixation. More specifically, with longer IPD the limit of screen and binocular parallax for single vision is decreased, and the perceived depth is reduced. These results suggest that the screen and binocular parallax of an object should be calibrated with regard to users IPD to provide natural stereo-images with a specified depth and to Prevent double vision.

  • A binocular robot vision system having an autonomously moving active viewpoint is proposed. By using this active viewpoint, the system constructs a correspondence between the images of a feature points on the right and left retinas and calculates the spatial coordinates of the feature points. The system incorporates a function of detecting straight lines in an image. To detect lines the system uses Hough transform. The system searches a region surrounded by 4 straight lines. Then the system recognizes the region as a quadrangle. The system constructs a correspondence between the quadrangles in the right and left images. By the use of the result of the constructed correspondence, the system calculates the spatial coordinates of an object. An experiment shows the effect of the line detection using Hough transform, the recognition of the surface of the object and the calculation of the spatial coordinates of the object.
