The purpose of this study was to examine the current status of the use of bike parking lots in apartment complexes located in Gwangju Metropolitan City. The results were as follows. While common respondents answered the use of a bike for leisure or health, relatively few respondents answered a means of transportation such as going to school or work. It suggests that systematic plans to expand the range of using a bike should be made such as the connection of an apartment complex with a bike road. The common places to keep bikes were the entrance, the inside of the house, or stairs rather than bike parking lots because of safety problems such as theft or damage. In this regard, it is necessary to prepare clear regulation guidances to complement the safety problems of bike parking lots such as CCTV installation in the parking lots or compulsory installation of night lighting. Based on the findings, the methods to improve a bike parking lot should consider safety solutions and the complement of locations or keeping types. To activate the use of a bike, it is necessary to improve facilities to help residents' use of bike parking lots and expand their size in the future and examine the design of bike racks.

As the importance of 'bike revitalization' has been emphasized in our society, many cities around the world put enormous efforts to create a bike-oriented transportation system. None the less, the results were not much productive and effective. In this study, to decide the location and number of the bike-parking facilities, the heuristic P-median algorithm has been applied with and without budget constraints. A test network with 30 candidate locations (centroids) were employed. The results show that the optimum number of bike parking lots with and without the budget limits are 9 and 20, respectively. Since the optimum locations determined in this study were congruous with the actual bike parking lots with high utilization rates, it is expected that the proposed methods can be applied for determining the optimum locations of the bike parking facilities elsewhere. Some limitations and future research agenda have also been discussed.

The purpose of this study is to establish future directions of environmentally-friendly restoration of Yangjae underground stream and reflect various opinions of inhabitant in the plan and design process. The opinions from the citizens include the economic and environmental suitability of the restoration projects and preference for the future directions of restoration. The citizens are favorable to removing the existing parking lot and want to have jogging course, walking path and bike road in the stream. Different opinions and resulted in preferred facilities and diminishing existing park along the stream depending on the restoration influencing zone. As a result, citizens agree in restoration but they have different opinions about the feasibility of new facilities, streams restoration and central park reduction locally. It is desirable to reflect the opinions of citizens in the process of plan and design of restoration project.
