A Convergence Study through Durability Analysis due to the Configuration of Automotive Frame Butted (자전거 프레임 버티드 형상에 따른 내구성 해석을 통한 융합연구)

  • When the driver riding in a bicycle goes on board, the load of driver is shown differently according to the position loaded on the frame of bicycle. The load is applied most at the joint of bike frame and the load at the mid-part of frame is applied least than the other parts. So, the weight of frame is decreased as the part not applied with a lot of load is manufactured into the thin thickness. As the part applied with high load is manufactured into the thick thickness, it can be endured through this load. The configurations of general frame, double butted and triple butted were modelled by using CATIA program. The durabilities of each model due to the load of passenger were investigated by carrying the structural and fatigue analyses. As this study result investigated with the analysis program of ANSYS, the deformation of general frame happened most and that of triple butted became least. These simulation analysis data are intended to be used to design the actual bicycle frame in the most efficient way at design and manufacture.

Durability Design of the Thickness of Bicycle Frames (자전거 프레임 두께에 따른 내구 설계)

  • The thickness of a stable and economical frame has been designed in order to reduce costs. Therefore, this study applied structural analysis and vibration analysis based on a comparison of the thicknesses of frames. Four types of frames (1mm, 2mm, 3mm, and 5mm) were modeled on a bicycle frame that has a length of 842mm, a width of 100mm, and a height of 400.5mm, and all of these frames generated the stress and maximum deformation amount in the state and around the saddle. The maximum stress shown was 25.732 MPa in 1mm, 11.79 MPa in 2mm, and 8.2015 MPa in 3mm, and the maximum deformation amount shown was 0.063611mm in 1mm, 0.031978mm in 2mm, and 0.022319mm in 3mm. The natural frequency of the frame thicknesses 1mm, 2mm, and 3mm was estimated as within 270 Hz. The critical frequency of conditions of 3mm was the biggest at 118.1Hz compared with the 3-mm model; thus, 3mm was shown to have the most satisfactory resistance.

  • Recently, because of the growth in the leisure industry and interest in health, the demand for bicycles has increased. In this research, considering the vertical load on a bike frame under static state conditions, the deflection and mass of the bike frame were minimized by satisfying the service condition and performing optimization. The thickness of the bicycle-frame tube was set to a design variable, and its sensitivity was confirmed by an analysis of means (ANOM). To optimize the solution, a response-surface-method (RSM) model was constructed using D-Optimal and central composite design(CCD). The optimization was performed using a non-dominant sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II), and the optimal solution was verified by finite-element analysis.

  • With the continuing demand for lightweight bicycles, carbon fiber composite materials have been widely used in manufacturing bicycle frames and components. Unlike general isotropic materials, the structural characteristics of composite materials are strongly influenced by the staking directions and sequences of composite laminates. Thus, to verify the design process of bicycles manufactured using composites, structural analysis is considered essential. In this study, a carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) bicycle frame was designed and its structural behavior was investigated using finite element analysis (FEA). By measuring the failure indices of the fiber and matrix under various stacking sequences and loading conditions, the effect of the stacking condition of composite laminates on the strength of the bicycle structure was examined. In addition, the structural safety of the bicycle frame can be enhanced by reinforcing weak regions prone to failure using additional composite laminates.

Development of an Urban Folding Bike for Public Transportation (대중교통 연계를 고려한 도심형 접이식 자전거 개발)

  • The bicycle is one of the most important eco-friendly transport methods which can mitigate global warming. The portability of a bike on public transportation systems is essential for the wide spread use of bicycles by people in urban environments. In this study, a lightweight urban folding bike was developed with careful consideration of the association with public transport. A folding frame using a moving slide link mechanism made from AL6061 is proposed. Numerical analysis was conducted to evaluate structural safety of the bike in both vertical and pedal loading tests. The proposed urban folding bicycle weights only 10kg and summation of its width, length, and height in the folded configuration is under 158cm.

  • In mechanical structure design area, many FEM (Finite Element Method) packages are used. But the design using FEM packages depends on an iterative trial and error manner and general CAD systems cannot cope with the change of parameters. This paper presents a methodology for building a designing system of a mechanical structure. This system can generate the drawing for a designed structure automatically. It consists of three steps: generation of a structure by selection of the parameters, stress analysis, and generation of a drawing using CAD system. FEM module and parametric CAD module are developed for this system. Inference engine module generates the parameters with a rule base and a model base, and also evaluates the current structure. The parametric design module generates geometric shapes automatically with given dimension. Parametric design is implemented with the artificial intelligent technique. In older to the demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed system, a frame set of bicycle was designed. The system was implemented on an SUN workstation using C language under OpenWindows environment.

  • Magnesium alloy is being used for structural material since it has high specific strength. Tubular shape was effective way for enhanced structural design. To manufacture the tube, it is necessary to weld the butted joint of both tubular formed sides. But the magnesium alloy was hardly welded with conventional welding processes. The laser welding was effective way to joint magnesium alloys because it had high weld strength and productivity compare with other welding processes. In this study, magnesium alloy sheets was formed at elevated temperature to tubular shape and welded with laser. Consequently, the magnesium alloy tube was making successful with warm forming and laser welding and bicycle frame was making with it.

Design of Area-efficient Feature Extractor for Security Surveillance Radar Systems (보안 감시용 레이다 시스템을 위한 면적-효율적인 특징점 추출기 설계)

  • In this paper, an area-efficient feature extractor was proposed for security surveillance radar systems and FPGA-based implementation results were presented. In order to reduce the memory requirements, features extracted from Doppler profile for FFT window-size are used, while those extracted from total spectrogram for frame-size are excluded. The proposed feature extractor was design using Verilog-HDL and implemented with Xilinx Zynq-7000 FPGA device. Implementation results show that the proposed design can reduce the logic slice and memory requirements by 58.3% and 98.3%, respectively, compared with the existing research. In addition, security surveillance radar system with the proposed feature extractor was implemented and experiments to classify car, bicycle, human and kickboard were performed. It is confirmed from these experiments that the accuracy of classification is 93.4%.
