  • This paper presents a scientometric analysis of the growth of literature output in the field of Hepatitis covered in three bibliographic databases namely MEDLINE, CINAHL and IPA. The literature covered in three databases for the period 1984-2003 was considered. MEDLINE covered the maximum of 75750 records during the study period 1984 to 2003. This is followed by CINAHL and IPA databases. It is found that the annual growth rate of literature in a particular field of knowledge will not be uniform and in order to measure the rate of growth from year after year, the application of RGR is quite appropriate. The RGR has shown a decreasing trend, with a slight fluctuation of growth rate for the years 1985 and 1997. The output by colleges, universities, corporate sector and research institutions with reference to RGR and Dt has shown mixed results such as increasing trend, decreasing trend and fluctuation trend. Hepatitis research indicates a different picture when the RGR and Dt were calculated by year-wise both in terms of number of papers and number of pages.

  • Purpose: This study examined the effects of exercise programs on the pain and quality of life in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Methods: Electronic bibliographic databases of KiSTi, KoreaMed, KISS and KERIS were searched to identify studies of randomized controlled trials and non-randomized controlled trials. As a result, 1213 publications identified and 16 studies met inclusion and exclusion criteria. All studies examined for quality assessment of studies using Cochrane's risk of bias. Results: The 16 studies were eligible for inclusion criteria, then the meta-analysis was conducted to examine effectiveness of exercise programs on pain and quality of life in patients with knee osteoarthritis. The meta- analysis based on the random effect model showed that the exercise program was beneficial in decreasing pain (effect size .69; 95% confidence interval 0.45~0.91). Also, the exercise programs have been shown to be effective in significantly improving the quality of life. However, it was not statistically significant due to severe deviations of studies (effect size 1.06; 95% confidence interval -0.34~2.46). Conclusion: Exercise programs had positive effects on pain relief and improvement of the quality of life in patients with knee osteoarthritis, although the quality of life was not statistically significant due to severe deviations of studies.

  • The rapid development of technologies in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has led to their use in various areas. UAVs are mainly used for commercial purposes, but their utilization is increasingly important in other areas because their operation cost is less than satellites and aerial imaging. The utilization of UAVs in the environment/ecology area is relatively new. Therefore, identifying the trends of UAV-related spatial information is significant in basic research for UAV utilization. This study quantitatively identified domestic and international research trends related to UAV utilization and analyzed research areas. An attempt was also made to identify upcoming UAV-related topics in the environment/ecology research field using text mining to analyze the bibliographic information of global research literature. Domestic UAV-related studies were classified into seven clusters where basic research on "UAV technology/industry trends" was abundant, and studies on data collection and analysis through UAV remote sensing technology have increased since 2015. Eight clusters were identified for international studies where the most active research area international was "remote sensing technology/data analysis". In addition, Canopy, Classification, Forest, Leaf Area Index, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, Temperature, Tree, and Atmosphere appeared as the main keywords related to environment and ecology. The appearance frequencies and association strengths were high because the advancement in UAV optical sensor technology and the rapid development of image processing technology enabled the acquisition of data that could not be obtained from existing spatial information. They are recognized as future research topics as related domestic studies have begun corresponding to international research.

  • This study aims to analyze the properties of the tags used in the fiction genre, the structural aspect of the patterns and the contents of the tags by utilizing LibraryThing, where the tags are assigned in work units of FRBR. A comparative analysis was conducted in terms of the level of association between the descriptive terms in bibliography and LCSH terms. The study also examined the sources of the tags not included in the bibliographic descriptions or LCSHs, what aspects of work they represented, and the terms used as tags in relation to the work. By restricting the study to a single genre, a number of tags that reflected the characteristics of fiction (three elements of the fiction which are theme, plot, style and three elements of the fiction composition which are character, event, setting) were extracted. This study finds out the role of the tag making up the taxonomy and proposes a new direction for the tagging system by demonstrating the possibility of using tags as facets in information organization and retrieval.

  • Researchers and scientists spend huge amount of time in analyzing the previous studies and their results. In order to timely take the advantageous position, they usually analyze various resources such as paper, patents, and Web documents on recent research issues to preoccupy newly emerging technologies. However, it is difficult to select invest-worthy research fields out of huge corpus by using the traditional information search based on keywords and bibliographic information. In this paper, we propose a method for efficient creation, storage, and utilization of semantically relevant information among technologies, products and research agents extracted from 'big data' by using text mining. In order to implement the proposed method, we designed an ontology that creates technological knowledge for semantic web environment based on the relationships extracted by text mining techniques. The ontology was utilized for InSciTe Adaptive, a R&D trends analysis and forecast service which supports the search for the relevant technological knowledge.
