피복합금을 사용한 Bi-2223 선재의 열전도도 및 전기전도도 특성평가 (Effects of Ag-alloy sheath on thermal/electrical conductivity of Bi-2223 superconductor tapes)

  • We evaluated the effect of alloying-element additions to Ag sheath on thermal conductivity of Bi-2223 superconductor tapes. In order to evaluate the effect of sheath alloys and their configuration on the properties of tape, various combinations of Ag and Ag alloys were selected as inner and outer sheath. Thermal conductivity of the tapes was measured by using thermal integral method at 10∼120 K. It is observed that the presence of alloying-elements such as Mg, Sb, and Au in Ag sheath results in decreased thermal conductivity at low temperature. Specifically, the thermal conductivity of AgMg, AgSb, and AgAu at 40 K were 411.4, 142.3, and 109.7 W/(m·K), respectively, which is about 2∼9 times lower than that of Ag (1004.6 W/(m·K)). In addition, the thermal conductivity of alloy-sheathed tape was significantly dependent on their values of constituent sheath materials.

  • Bi-2223/Ag HTS wires have been fabricated by the PIT(powder in tube)process. Intermediate annealing was carried out to increase the homogenization and uniformity of the superconducting filaments embedded in the silver matrix during the deformation process that is important to sustain the engineering critical current density in long superconducting wire. Intermediate annealing act to release the deformation hardening of the superconducting wires during drawing process. Rolling parameters were investigated to roll the superconducting tapes with uniform thickness, width and winding tensions. Critical current of 60 m long superconducting tapes was measured 54.3 A continuously after final sintering heat treatment. The phase analysis of Bi-2223/Ag superconducting tapes are examined by the XRD.

  • As an preliminary study for the quench protection of high temperature superconducting (HTS) cable using superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL), experimental research was carried out. The test circuit was composed of Bi-2223/Ag HTS tape and a SFCL made of YBCO thin films. In the normal state, the applied current of 56 A, which was critical current of HTS tape, could be flown through the circuit without resistive loss. Increasing the currents, the quench development of both materials was investigated from the voltage signal acquired from the resistance of the quenched superconductor. Up to around 10 times of the critical current was applied to the HTS tape and the current limiting characteristics of SFCL were investigated. In addition, for the finding out the optimal operating condition of SFCL such as the numbers of elements, a shunt resistor was applied to the SFCL and quench characteristics were analyzed as well.

  • The sintering process of BSCCO 2223 tapes is a complex process that is very sensitive to parameters, such as temperature, oxygen partial pressure, heating and cooling rate and holding time. During the first heat treatment, 2212 phase of precursor powder is partially transformed into 2223 phase and some residual secondary phases, such as $(Bi,Pb)_2$$Sr_2$CuO/sub y/(2201), $(Ca,Sr)_2$CuO/sub y/(2/1AEC), (Ca,Sr)/sub 14/Cu/sub 24/O/sub 41/(14/24 AEC) etc. The secondary phases are difficult to be removed from the BSCCO 2223 matrix on the heat treatment. These secondary phases degrade the critical current density. In order to minimize the amount and size of alkaline earth cuprate(AEC) particles step heat treatment is applied during the first heat treatment under the varying atmosphere. Experimental results showed that by adapting the step heat treatment process, the amount and particle size of the secondary phases in the final tapes are decreased. Consequently, the BSCCO 2223grain texture and Jc properties are improved.

  • Current lead plays the part of connector between ambient temperature and liquid helium superconducting magnet. Having zero resistance characteristic, it is expected that HTS has very low thermal conductivity and generate no joule heat when fabricated to current lead. In particular, among the HTS meterials, HTS tape has high Jc and Ag-sheath of tape plays the part of stabilizer, but it has too poor mechanical strength to be applied and when fabricated as long length tape, it has tendency to decline Jc seriously. In this study, we fabricated Bi-2223 multifilamentary tapes and then made current lead with stacking type using them. Through this work, we conclude that the defect of HTS long length tape is decreased by addition the number of stacking tape and that current lead is able to operate more stably by minimizing the gap of tapes.

The critical current density has been shown depending on the mechanical properties. strain and bending stress. AC loss reduction is primary concern in the development of such high-efficiency equipment. AC losses in Bi-2223 silver-sheathed tapes, both single and multi-filamentary, were investigated by means of AC magnetization techniques. The results were compared with the hysteresis loss equation based on Bean model and the eddy current loss equation. The AC loss of the mono-filamentary tape was the hysteresis. On the contrary, the AC loss of the multi-filamentary tape was substantially dominated by the eddy current loss in the Ag matrix.

  • Critical current(Ic) degradation of HTS tapes after bending is one of the hottest issues in HTS development and application studies. Many people are measuring Ic degradations for effect of bending radius. However even if the bending radius is larger than the breaking radius a HTS tapes can be damaged by repetitive bending, which is unavoidable in the winding processes. Therefore, We studied the Ic degradation after repetitive bending. at 77K with self-field, of Bi-2223 tapes processed by "Powder-in-Tube" technique, which was made by America Superconductor Corporation(AMSC) and superconductiing tapes that strain is imposed measured critical current by temperature difference of L$N_2$ and normal temperature. Like this, critical current could measure that degradation about 1~3% by temperature difference. These results will amount the most important basis data in power electric machine of superconductivity cable, magnet, etc that winding work is require.

Thermal conductivity of the tapes was evaluated by using thermal integral method at 10 ∼120 K. It was observed that the addition of Mg, Sb, and Au to Ag sheath significantly decreased the thermal conductivity at low temperature probably due to the alloying effect. Specifically, the thermal conductivity of AgMg, AgSb, and AgAu at 40 K were 411.4, 142.3, and 109.7 W/(m·K), respectly, which is about 2∼9 times lower than that of Ag (1004.6 W/(m·K)). In addition, the thermal conductivity of alloy-sheathed tape was significantly dependent on their thermal conductivities of constituent sheath materials. The mechanical properties of alloy-sheathed tapes were also evaluated. Yield strength and tensile strength were improved but workability decreased for alloy-sheathed tapes.
