Automatic Berthing Finite-time Control Considering Transmission Load Reduction

  • In this study, we investigates the auto-berthing problem for the underactuated surface vessel in the presence of constraints of dynamic uncertainties, finite time, transmission load, and environmental disturbance. A novel control scheme is proposed by fusing the finite time control technology and the event-triggered input algorithm. In the algorithm, differential homeomorphism coordinate the transformation is used to solve the problem of underactuation. Then, we apply the finite time technology and event triggered to save the time of the berthing vessel and relieve transmission burden between the controller and the vessel respectively. Moreover, a radial basis function network is used to approximate unknown nonlinear functions, and minimum learning parameters are introduced to lessen the computational complexity. A sufficient effort has been made to verify the stability of the closed-loop system based on the Lyapunov stability theory. Finally, simulation results display the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

선박 자동접안을 위한 순수 횡 이동 모델링 및 제어기 설계 (Modeling and controller design of crabbing motion for auto-berthing)

  • Crabbing motion is the pure sway motion of a ship without surge velocity. Thus, it can be applied to a berthing operation. Crabbing motion is induced by a peculiar operation method called the push-pull mode. The push-pull mode is induced by using a combination of the main propeller and side thruster. Two propellers generating the same amounts of thrust and rotating in opposite directions produce some yawing moment on a vessel but do not induce longitudinal motion. With the additional operation of side thrusters, the push-pull mode is used to induce a large amount of lateral force. In this paper, three-degree-of-freedom equations of motion such as for the surge, sway, and yaw are constructed for the crabbing motion. Based on these equations of motion, a feedback linearization control method is applied to auto-berthing control for a twin-screw ship with side thrusters. The controller can deal with the nonlinearity of a system, which is present in the berthing maneuver of a twin screw ship. A simulation of the auto-berthing of a ship is performed to validate the performance of the designed controller.

인공신경망을 이용한 선박의 자동접안 제어에 관한 연구 (A Study of the Automatic Berthing System of a Ship Using Artificial Neural Network)

  • 선박의 접안운동을 자동화하기 위하여 인공신경망(Artificial Neural Network, 이하 ANN)에 의한 제어를 수행하였다. ANN은 시스템의 비선형성이 표현 가능하므로 접안운동과 같은 비선형성이 강한 조종운동에 적합하다. 입력층과 출력층 사이에 하나 이상의 중간층이 존재하는 다층 인식자(Multi-layer perceptron)를 사용하였고, 교사 데이터(Teaching data)와 역전파(Back-Propagation) 알고리즘을 사용하여 신경망의 출력값과 목표 출력값 사이의 오차가 최소가 되도록 신경망 학습을 수행하였다. 접안 시 저속조종 수학모델을 사용하여 접안 시뮬레이션을 수행하였으며, ANN의 입력층 성분(unit)이 8개인 구조와 6개인 구조의 접안 제어를 비교하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과, 두 ANN에 의하여 접안 경로 선택에 차이가 나타났으나 접안 조건은 모두 만족하였다.

Distance Measurement System using A Stereo Camera and Radial Pattern Target for Automatic Berthing Control

  • In this paper, we propose a distance measurement system for automatic berthing control using a stereo camera mounted on a rotation control device, and a radial pattern target. Automatically controlling the position and attitude of a ship aims to prevent maritime accidents due to human error. Our goal is to measure the relative distance between a ship and an onshore or offshore target for berthing. Therefore, the distance should be continuously measured while tracking a fixed point on a target. To this end, we developed a stereo camerabased distance measurement system that satisfied these requirements. This paper describes the structure and principle of the measurement system. We validate the distance error for target incline due to the relative position and attitude between a camera and a target in miniature scale. In addition, the findings of an experiment in an outdoor environment demonstrate that the proposed measurement system has accuracy within 1 m at a range of 20-100 m which is the acceptable accuracy for automatic berthing.

  • Along with the rapid growth of shipping and transportation , the size of a ship larger and larger. Low speed maneuverabililty of a full ship has been received a great deal of attention concerting about the navigation safety, especially in the harbour area of waterway. And, the iperation of the full ship in harbour area is one fo tehmost difficult technique. Usually highly experienced experts can make a suitable decision considering various propeller ,rudder actions and environmental conditions. The Artificial Neural Network is applied to the automatic berthing control of a ship. The teaching data are made by the berthing simulation of a ship on the computer. And, the layer neural network is used and the 'Error Back-Propagation Algorithm' is used to teach the neural network. Finally, it is shown that the berthing control is successfully done by the established neural network.

  • Everyday about 90% of cargos are delivered by ships, and thousands of vessels enter and depart the international container harbors such as Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Busan, Rotterdam, etc. Maneuvering at harbor is known as the most sophisticated and difficult procedure, because the effectiveness of actuators during low speed berthing is reduced. In this paper, a new berthing method is discussed. Tugboats are combined with damper systems to ensure safe berthing. A mathematical model describing the interaction between unactuated ship, tugboats and damper systems is presented. An optimal controller is designed to maneuver the ship without oscillation and overshoot. MCL (Marine Cybernetics Lab) model ship is used to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed approach through MatLab simulation.

Optimal Control Design for Automatic Ship Berthing by Using Bow and Stern Thrusters

  • Conventionally, because it is difficult to control a ship in shallow water and because attempting to do so creates unwanted environmental effects, maneuvering ships in the harbor area for berthing is usually done with the assistance of tugboats. In this paper, we propose a new method for berthing ships automatically by using bow and stern thrusters. Specifically, a steering motion model of a ship is considered, and parameters in the equation are evaluated by the system identification technique. An optimal controller based on observations was designed from the linearization of the non-linear ship motion in the horizontal plane. It is used to reduce the uncertainty about the ship's dynamics and reduce measurement requirements. The performance of the controller was also analyzed for its robustness relative to avoiding disturbing the environment due to winds, currents, and wave-drift forces. Experiments were conducted to estimate the potential for identifying result and the design of the controller. Specifically, in this paper, the system modeling and tracking control approach are discussed based on a two-degree-of-freedom (2DOF) servo-system design.

  • Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV)'s berthing and unberthing is the most difficult maneuvering tasks and have the highest risk of accidents. In this paper, we designed a berthing/unberthing control algorithm given human joystick command for an USV equipped with a waterjet and a bow thruster. The berthing and unberthing maneuvers are performed remotely by a joystick operator at the Ground Control Center (GCC) where the status of USV and environmental situation can be monitored. We interpret the human joystick commands into USV's desired speed, yaw rate, and heading angle commands. next, we developed a control algorithm for the desired target values of MIMO actuators (engine speed, bucket step, nozzle angle, and bow thruster state) to follow the interpreted commands. The validity of the control algorithm is confirmed through simulations and sea trials at Gwang Am port.

  • 본 논문은 선박자동 항로 추적제어기와 자동접이안 제어기를 포함하는 선박자동운항시스템 설계와 관련이 있다. 자동항로 추적제어기의 설계를 위해서는 최적제어기가 사용되었는데 선형화된 선박조종식이 사용되었다. 수치예는 자동항로 추적제어기가 선장이 미리정한 way point를 추적할 수 있음을 보여주고 있다. 자동접이안 제어기의 설계를 위해서는 비중앙화 방식의 제어기가 사용되었다. 자동접이안 제어기는 자동 항로 추적 제어기에 전진속도에 대한 퍼지 로직 제어기가 추가 되어 실현되었다 수치예는 자동접이안 제어기가 성공적으로 사용되었음을 보여준다.

  • In this paper vector code correlation(VCC) method and an algorithm to promote the image-processing performance in building an effective measurement system using cameras are described far automatically berthing and controlling the ship equipped with side-thrusters. In order to realize automatic ship berthing, it is indispensable that the berthing assistant system on the ship should continuously trace a target in the berth to measure the distance to the target and the ship attitude, such that we can make the ship move to the specified location. The considered system is made up of 4 apparatuses compounded from a CCD camera, a camera direction controller, a popular PC with a built-in image processing board and a signal conversion unit connected to parallel port of the PC. The object of this paper is to reduce the image-processing time so that the berthing system is able to ensure the safety schedule against risks during approaching to the berth. It could be achieved by composing the vector code image to utilize the gradient of an approximated plane found with the brightness of pixels forming a certain region in an image and verifying the effectiveness on a commonly used PC. From experimental results, it is clear that the proposed method can be applied to the measurement system for automatic ship berthing and has the image-processing time of fourfold as compared with the typical template matching method.
