  • A thiazole type accelerator MBT (2-mercapto benzothiazole) was added into silica filled natural rubber (NR) compound with various concentrations (0, 1, 2, 3, 4 phr). The effects of MBT on the cure rate, mechanical property, degree of rubber-filler interaction (${\alpha}_F$), crosslinking density, and viscoelastic property ($tan{\delta}$) were investigated. As accelerator concentration increased, the $t_{s2}$ and $t_{90}$ decreased and the crosslinking density and modulus at 300% elongation increased. The tensile strength and elongation increased up to 3 phr and no further increased at 4 phr. The $tan{\delta}$ value measured at room temperature was higher than that of the $70^{\circ}C$. The ${\alpha}_F$ value was not affected by the addition of MBT. The mechanisms for the vulcanization rate were reviewed.

  • Fourteen volatile compounds isolated by distillation under reduced pressure from Mustard Leaf(Brassica juncea) Kimchi were identified by the GC/FID and GC/MSD. They were composed of 63% of hydrocarbons and acid and 30% of isothiocyantes and their related components in relative amount; Volatile isothiocyanates and their related components such as 2-phenylethyl isothiocyanate, benzothiazole, 2-methyl benzothiazole and 2-(3H)-benzothiazolone, which are reported to be responsible for the pungent flavor of mustard products, were found in Mustard Leaf Kimchi. These volatile components were remarkably decreased during the fermentation of Mustard Leaf Kimchi.

  • Normal phase or reversed phase liquid chromatographic separation of isoquinoline of heterocyclic compounds and structural isomers of external substituents, $COOCH_3$, CN and $CH_3$ has been carried out by using several different columns and various mobile phases. From this results, the order of elution of heterocyclic compounds appears to depend on the solvent effect with kinds of mobile phases. Retention mechanism of normal phase system for 2-methylindoline, 2-methylindole, benzoxazole and benzothiazole was also studied depending on adsorption strength between solute and stationary phase of column. However, retention factors of reversed phase system were found on hydrophobic interaction with solvophobic effect.

  • In vitro ${\beta}-lactamase$ inhibitory activity of 6-benzothiazole penicillins (1, 2, 3 and 4) was compared with clavulanic acid, sulbactam and tazobactam. The inhibitory activity of exomethylene compounds (3 and 4) was stronger than those of non-exomethylene compounds (1 and 2). The sulfide 3 showed stronger inhibitory activity than sulbactam, clavulanic acid andsimilar to tazobactam against ${\beta}-lactamase$ Type I enzymes. The inhibitory activity of 4 was stronger than those of sulbactam, clavulanic acid and tazobactam against Type III and IV enzymes. The in vitro antimicrobial activity of ampicillin or cefoperazone combined with 3 or 4 was stronger than those of ampicillin or cefoperazone alone against many ${\beta}-lactamase$ producing strains to show that compounds 3 and 4 have some synergistic effect. The synergistic activity of 3 and 4 was comparable to sulbactam in some ${\beta}-lactamase$ producing strains, but it was inferior to tazobactam.

  • A convenient method for the preparation of imidazobenzimidazole 3, imidazoimidazole 5, imidazotriazole 6 and pyrano [2, 3-c] oxazole 7 derivatives is described. This depends on interaction of 2-methyl-4-arylidene-2-oxazolin-5-ones 1 with o-diamines, thiosemicarbazide and/or ethylcyanoacetate. The effect of alcoholic potassium cyanide on axazolinone 1 was studied. Antibacterial activity of the obtained products was studied.

  • The effect of cure accelerator content on the change in crosslink density by thermal aging was studied for silica-filled natural rubber (NR) vulcanizates. Influence of silane coupling agent was also investigated. N-tert-Butyl-2-benzothiazole sulfenamide (TBBS) and bis-(3-(triethoxysilyl)-propyl)-tetrasulfide (TESPT) were used as a cure accelerator and a silane coupling agent, respectively. The crosslink density increased by thermal aging and the increasing level became larger as the aging temperature increased. The degree of crosslink density change of the vulcanizates without the silane coupling agent was larger than that of the vulcanizates containing the silane coupling agent. For the vulcanizates silane coupling agent, the activation energy for the crosslink density change decreased with increase of the cure accelerator content in the vulvanizate.

  • The electrochemical reduction of N-tert-butylbenzothiazole-2-sulfenamide (TBBS; vulcanization accelerator) was investigated by direct current, differential pulse polarography, cyclic voltammetry and controlled potential coulometry. The electrode reduction of TBBS proceeded E-C-E-C reaction mechanism by four electrons transfer at irreversible one wave (-2.31 volts vs. Ag/0.1M AgN$O_3$ in AN). As the results of controlled potential electrolysis, mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT), benzothiazole disulfide (MBT dimer) and extricated sulfur were products which followed by cleavage of the sulfenamide (-S-N=) bond. Upon the basis of products analysis and polarogram interpretation with pH variable, electrochemical reaction mechanism was suggested.
