  • Identifying benefit from IT spending is of great concern to most firms in today's competing world. Cost-benefit analysis of IT spending can be conducted when firms have systematic management process of IT spending and the supporting data. This paper examined Korean firm's management process of IT spending, and proposes the best practice. Management process of IT spending and the definition of IT expense and investment were proposed based on the best practice. A proposition that "IT expenses and investments need to be distinguished to manage IT spending effectively' was proposed. Hypotheses were generated and tested with empirical data. Statistical analyses show that ratios of IT investment to IT expense were significantly different during the study period. The results of the study imply that firms can acquire useful information by distinguishing IT expense and investment in the management process of IT spending.

  • This study intended to analyse the factors of brand image and brand image positioning of domestic 20’s female apparel(formal wear) among the consumer groups segmented by benefits sought in apparel and to provide marketing strategy of brand image. The subject of this study were 605 working women in their 20’s living in seoul, and the model sampling was done by convenienced sampling method based on the subjects age and occupation. Survey based on references and former studies was used. and statistical methods such as frequency, percentage, mean, factor analysis, preference regression were applied. The results of this study were as follows. 1. The factor structures of brand image were classified into symbolism/aesthetics, and practicality. 2. Perception, ideal preference vector, and brand preference of brand image were proven to be significantly different among the four segmented consumer groups.

  • The Korean government adopted the integrated stream water management policy recently with growing perception that natural disasters and pollution in Korea have been due not only to such human factors as urbanization and industrialization, but also to the policy of functionally separated management of irrigation, flood control and ecological management. Contrary to its good intention, research result shows that it is not realistic to expect that this new integrated policy in Korea will work well. In order to be an effective policy and program evaluation, this paper suggests that evaluation indicator on related programs and projects should be made through bottom-up process. For example, environmental benefit should be taken into account rather than just economic benefit, and cultural and social characteristics in the project region should be also considered seriously.

  • This study proposes a methodology to assess the traffic safety benefits of technical regulation for pedestrian leg. Traffic safety benefit is defined as the injury reduction in this study. Actual accident analysis and simulation experiments using LS-Dyna3d are conducted to establish statistical models for developing the methodology. The relationship between collision speed and parameters of the regulation is explored. An application example of the proposed methodology is also presented for more comprehensive understanding. It is believed that the proposed methodology would be greatly utilized in developing various technologies and policies to protect pedestrian.

  • This study compares the reasons why Large and Small companies are adopting and realization benefit electronic commerce(e-commerce) based on an assumption of difference between two groups of companies. We collected data for contemporaneous analysis by classification with two groups of companies in Korea and developed an integrated model from the empirical studies and made Question papers for inspection of created hypothesis.

  • New transport technologies have been rapidly developed and various transport systems are ready to introduce. However, there no exists effective decision making tools for pre-feasibility studies on transport systems. The pre-feasibility studies should provide reliable solutions about whether a certain transport system is feasible or not by cost-benefit analysis and effectiveness test of enhancing regional economy. This study introduces the smart transport investment/information system (SMARTIS) for supporting decision making with ease, fast and reliable methods. The SMARTIS incorporates travel demand estimates into the process of feasibility studies with automatic data processing methods to give reliable solutions quickly. The SMARTIS is expected to be informative for transit agencies, planners, and operators.

  • One of the primary goals of the simulation experiments is to understand the overall system behavior and to analyze the system, ultimately to optimize the system. Optimizing the system includes determining the optimum condition of the system parameters of interest. This paper is concerned with the simulation methodology for estimating the unknown objective function for the system of interest and optimizing the system with respect to the controllable factors. In the process of estimating the unknown objective function, which is assumed to be a second order spline function, we use common random numbers for different set of the controllable factors resulting in more accurate parameter estimation for the objective function. We will show some mathematical result for the benefit of using common random numbers.

  • Using samples of working mothers with 0-to-47 month old children extracted from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (NLSY), this study investigated effects of mothers' job characteristics on parenting behaviors and young children's motor, social, and cognitive development. Date were analyzed by descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis. Results indicated that (1) job dissatisfaction was negatively related to children's development. (2) Working fewer hours was positively associated with mothers' cognitively stimulating parenting behaviors. (3) Total earnings were a positive predictor of mothers' emotional support. (4) The availability of a flexible hour benefit was positively related to mothers' cognitive stimulation level but the availability of a paid sick and vacation days combined benefit was negatively related to mothers' cognitively stimulating parenting behavior.

  • According to NERC definition, Available Transfer Capability (ATC) is a measure of the transfer capability remaining in the physical transmission network for the future commercial activity. To calculate Available Transfer Capability, accurate and defensible Total Transfer Capability, Capacity Benefit Margin and Transmission Reliability Margin should be calculated in advance. This paper proposes a method to quantify time varying Available Transfer Capability based on probabilistic approach. The uncertainties of power system and market are considered as complex random variables. Total Transfer Capability is determined by optimization technique such as SQP(Sequential Quadratic Programming). Transmission Reliability Margin with the desired probabilistic margin is calculated based on Probabilistic Load Flow analysis, and Capacity Benefit Margin is evaluated using LOLE of the system. Suggested Available Transfer Capability quantification method is verified using IEEE RTS with 72 bus. The proposed method shows efficiency and flexibility for the quantification of Available Transfer Capability.

  • The purposes of this study were 1) to segment the female formal suit market based on clothing benefits sought by housewives in Checheon 2) to compare the real and ideal self-image's relative power on the clothing benefits factor, and 3) to develop a profile of each segment concerning self-image (real and ideal), and demographics. The data wer collected via a questionnaire from housewives. Using factor and cluster analysis, four groups were identified and labeled as 1) Easy care oriented users 2) Aesthetics/fashion oriented users 3) Low benefit oriented users. ANOVA, Duncan's Multiple Range Test, Chi-square statistics revealed significant differences among the three groups according to clothing benefits, real and ideal self-image and demographic variables.
