This paper is concerned with the surface roughness and the bending strength of ground workpiece in ZrO2 ceramic grinding. Surface roughness was measured with surface tracer and bending strength value was obtained by three-point bending test on machining center using tool dynamometer. Grinding experiments were carried out to examine the effects of grinding conditions including diamond mesh size, table speed, and depth of cut on ground surface roughness. The correlation between surface roughness and bending strength was also inspected. The experimental results indicate that the rougher surface was produced as the mesh size of diamond wheel is reduced and table speed is increased, but surface roughness is not affected by depth of cut. The values of bending strength decrease as the values of Ra, Rmax and Ku increase.
In this study, the effect of bending strain on the transport property and critical current of lap and butt-jointed (non-laminated) BSCCO tapes has been investigated. The samples were joined using a mechanically controlled jointing procedure. To achieve a uniform thickness at the joint a single point loading contact has been devised. GFRP mandrels with different bending radii which support the sample during bending have been used. $I_c$ have been measured at 77 K and self field. In the case of easy bending test for jointed BSCCO tapes, sudden degradation of $I_c$ is caused by the local strain concentration due to non uniform deformation at the edge parts of the joint. In the case of hard bending test of jointed BSCCO tapes transverse macroscopic crack at specific subsection caused a large $I_c$ degradation. The transport property of jointed BSCCO tapes in each bending mode was discussed with the damage morphology occurred.

Objective: To achieve optimal fit of implant, it is necessary to bend the implant during spine surgery. Bending procedure may decrease stiffness of plate especially made of titanium and stainless steel. Typically titanium suffers adverse effects including early crack propagation when it is bent. We investigate whether 6 degree bending of titanium plates would decrease the stiffness after full cyclic loading by comparing with non-bending titanium plates group. Methods: Authors experimented 40 titanium alloy plates of 57mm in length, manufactured by 5 different companies. Total 40 plates were divided into two groups (20 bent plates for experimental group and 20 non-bent plates for control group). Twenty plates of experimental group were bent to 6 degree with 3-point bending technique and verified with image analyzer. Using the electron microscope, we sought for a initial crack before and after 3-point bending. Mechanical testing by means of 6000 cyclic axial-compression loading of 35N in compression with moment arm of 35mm-1.1 Nm was conducted on each plate and followed by the electron microscopic examination to detect crack or fissure on plates. Results: The stiffness was decreased after 6000 cyclic loading, but there was no statistically significant difference in stiffness between experimental and control group. There was no evidence of change in grain structure on the electron microscopic magnification. Conclusion: The titanium cervical plates can be bent to 6 degree without any crack or weakness of plate. We also assume that minimal bending may increase the resistance to fatigue fracture in cervical flexion-extension movement.
Fiber-reinforced concrete (FRC) is a composite material where small fibers made from steel or polypropylene or similar material are embedded into concrete matrix. In a material model each constituent should be adequately described, especially the interface between the matrix and fibers that is determined with the 'bond-slip' law. 'Bond-slip' law describes relation between the force in a fiber and its displacement. Bond-slip relation is usually obtained from tension laboratory experiments where a fiber is pulled out from a matrix (concrete) block. However, theoretically bond-slip relation could be determined from bending experiments since in bending the fibers in FRC get pulled-out from the concrete matrix. We have performed specially designed laboratory experiments of three-point beam bending with an intention of using experimental data for determination of material parameters. In addition, we have formulated simple layered model for description of the behavior of beams in the three-point bending test. It is not possible to use this 'forward' beam model for extraction of material parameters so an inverse model has been devised. This model is a basis for formulation of an inverse model that could be used for parameter extraction from laboratory tests. The key assumption in the developed inverse solution procedure is that some values in the formulation are known and comprised in the experimental data. The procedure includes measured data and its derivative, the formulation is nonlinear and solution is obtained from an iterative procedure. The proposed method is numerically validated in the example at the end of the paper and it is demonstrated that material parameters could be successfully recovered from measured data.

The SBR(Sequencing Batch Reactor) process is ideally suited to treat high loading wastewater due to its high dilution rate. SBR operates by a cycle of periods consisting of filling, reacting, settling, decanting and idling. The react phases such as aeration or non-aeration, organic oxidation, nitrification, denitrification and other bio-logical reactions can be achieved in a reactor. Although the whole reactions can be achieved in a SBR with time distributing, it is hard to manage the SBR as a normal condition without recognizing a present state. The present state can be observed with nutrient sensors such as ${NH_{4}}^{+}-N$, ${NO_{2}}^{-}-N$, ${NO_{3}}^{-}-N} and ${PO_{4}}^{ 3-}-P.$ However, there is still a disadvantage to use the nutrient sensors because of their high expense and inconvenience to manage. Therefore, it is very useful to use common on-line sensors such as DO, ORP and pH, which are less expensive and more convient. Moreover, the present states and unexpected changes of SBR might be predicted by using of them. This study was conducted to get basic materials for making an inference of SBR process from ORP(oxidation reduction potential) of synthetic wastewater. The profiles of ORP, DO, and pH were under normal nitrification and denitrification were obtained to compare abnormal condition. And also, nitrite and nitrate accumulation were investigated during reaction of SBR. The bending point on ORP profile was not entirely in the low COD/NOx ratio condition. In this case, NOx was not entirely removed, and minimum ORP value was presented over -300mV. Under suitable COD/NOx ratio which complete denitrification was achieved, ORP bending point was observed and minimum ORP value was under -300m V. Under high COD/NOx ratio, ORP bending point was not detected at the first subcycle because of the fast denitrification and minimum ORP value was under -300mV at the time.
PURPOSE. To evaluate the effects of different surface treatments on the bond strength of novel CAD/CAM restorative materials to resin cement by four point bending test. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The CAD/CAM materials under investigation were e.max CAD, Mark II, Lava Ultimate, and Enamic. A total of 400 bar specimens ($4{\times}1.2{\times}12mm$) (n=10) milled from the CAD/CAM blocks underwent various pretreatments (no pretreatment (C), hydrofluoric acid (A), hydrofluoric acid + universal adhesive (Scotchbond) (AS), sandblasting (Sb), and sandblasting + universal adhesive (SbS)). The bars were luted end-to-end on the prepared surfaces with a dual curing adhesive resin cement (Variolink N, Ivoclar Vivadent) on the custom-made stainless steel mold. Ten test specimens for each treatment and material combination were performed with four point bending test method. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and Tukey's test. RESULTS. The surface treatment and type of CAD/CAM restorative material showed a significant effect on the four point bending strength (FPBS) (P<.001). For LDC, AS surface treatment showed the highest FPBS results ($100.31{\pm}10.7MPa$) and the lowest values were obtained in RNC ($23.63{\pm}9.0MPa$) for control group. SEM analyses showed that the surface topography of CAD/CAM restorative materials was modified after treatments. CONCLUSION. The surface treatment of sandblasting or HF acid etching in combination with a universal adhesive containing MDP can be suggested for the adhesive cementation of the novel CAD/CAM restorative materials.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of internal holes on the bending strength of PB. The diameters of holes are 0mm to 13mm. The locations of holes are 1/8 to 4/5 point horizontally from sample end and are 1/5 to 4/5 vertically from sample surface, the numbers of holes are 1 to 4 pcs. In the size of internal holes, the bending strengths of PB were decreased significantly with the increase of diameter of holes, and the relationship between diameters(D) of holes and bending strength (${\sigma}_b$) of PB was ${\sigma}_b=-11D+168.8$ ($r^2=-0.99^{**}$). The effects of hole-locations and hole-numbers on the bending strengths of PB were large. and so they should be considered as major factors for the jointing design of PB.

Concrete is one of the principal materials for the structure and it is widely used all over the world. but it shows extremely brittle failure under bending and tensile load. Recently to improve such a poor property. High Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composites (HPFRCC) have been developed. and it are defined by an ultimate strength higher than their first cracking strength and the formation of multiple cracking during the inelastic deformation process. This study is to develop the hybrid HPFRCC with high ductility and strain capacity in bending and tensile load. and the three-point bending test on hybrid HPRFCC reinforced with micro and macro fibers is carried out in this paper. As the results of the bending tests. hybrid HPFRCCs reinforced with PVA40+SF and PVA100+PVA660 showed the high ultimate bending stress, multiple cracks and displacement hardening under bending load.
This paper is concerned with a study on cyclic bending load of bus folding door pillar including adhesive bonding and spot welding. Three specimen types were used such as spot welding, I-type adhesive bonding and M-type adhesive bonding in this study. The tensile-shear tests were carried out to evaluate the tensile-shear strength of these three specimen types. Also four-point bending tests were carried out to evaluate the static and dynamic bending load. From the results, using adhesive bonding has a better effect on the static and dynamic bending load than using spot welding. Therefore, manufacturing better structural products can be expected by applying hybrid welding using adhesive and spot welding to those.

This study is focused to predict the behavior of Al foam with closed-cell structure during the 3 point bending test and the upsetting test according to aspect ratio. We calculated characters of aluminum foams with closed-cell structure and took the simulation. The effects on the aspect ratio of the cell was investigated parametrically. The analysis was carried out on two models, First, the bending test in elasticity of the rectangular beam, and Second, the upsetting test in plasticity of the circular cylinder. In the analysis, the deformation of the beam and the cylinder was influenced by the aspect ratio of the cell. Further, We assumed that the geometry of feared aluminum cell change the stress and strain in the test.
