U-곡관 노즐에서 예혼합화염에 미치는 이차 유동의 영향 (Effect of Secondary Flow on a Premixed Flame in the U-bend Nozzle)

  • The effect of secondary flow on both methane/air and propane/air premixed flame was investigated experimentally. By changing the radius of curvature, various flame behavior was observed. In the V-bend nozzles, flame surface is deformed from axisymmetry. As the exit velocity increased, flame lifted off partially. When the radius of curvature of the V-bend increased, the region where premixed flame is entirely on the rim increased. Since the axial velocity field is changed due to the secondary flow effect, comparison of V-bend and straight tube with the same diameter shows larger V-bend nozzle exit velocity for both flash back and flame blowout. The flame characteristics are mapped with a equivalence ratio, a velocity, and a nozzle radius of curvature. To identify physical reasoning on the flame surface deformation, numerical calculations are conducted. OH radical distributions in flames are visualized by PLIF technique.

가변 단면 성형 롤의 반경 증가에 의한 롤 간섭 제거 (Elimination of Roll Interference by Increasing Radius of Variable Section Forming Roll)

  • In this study, we investigated whether the interference occurring in forming roll surfaces could be eliminated by increasing the radius of the variable section forming rolls. The surfaces of the rolls capable of forming products with different flange heights and bend angles with the bend line tilted at an angle of 1° from the longitudinal axis were created using the general CAD software CATIA. Roll interferences were determined for the change in the forming roll radius. The minimum gaps between the upper and lower roll surfaces were measured for the change in the forming roll radius, and the roll interferences were calculated from the difference between the measured value and the thickness of the product. It was observed that the thickness of the product had a slight effect on the roll interference when the thickness was between 0.8 and 1.2 mm. It was also observed that the roll interference could be eliminated by increasing the roll radius.

  • This paper depicts the weak shock wave propagating inside some kinds of pipe bends. Computational work is to solve the two-dimensional, compressible, unsteady Euler Equations. The second-order TVD scheme is employed to discretize the governing equations. For the computations, the incident normal shock wave is assumed at the entrance of the pipe bend, and its Mach number is changed between 1.1 and 1.7. The turning angle and radius of the curvature of the pipe bend are changed to investigate the effects on the shock wave structure. The present computational results clearly show the shock wave reflection and diffraction occurring in the pipe bend. In particular, the vortex generation, which occurs at the edge of the bend, and its shedding mechanism are discussed in details.

Burst pressure estimation of Alloy 690 axial cracked steam generator U-bend tubes using finite element damage analysis

  • This paper presents numerical estimation of burst pressures of axial cracked U-bend tubes, considering the U-bending process analysis. The validity of the FE simulations is confirmed by comparing with published experimental data. From parametric analyses, it is shown that existing EPRI burst pressure estimation equations for straight tubes can be conservatively used to estimate burst pressures of the U-bend tubes. This is due to the increase in yield strength during the U-bending process. The degree of conservatism would decrease with increasing the bend radius and with increasing the crack depth.

  • The springback characteristics of AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet was investigated in OSU draw/bend test. Springback is the elastically-driven change of shape of a part after forming and it should be estimated and controlled to manufacture more precise products in sheet forming. The demands are increasing for magnesium alloy sheet press forming, but the study on its springback characteristics is insufficient. Strip draw/bend tests were conducted with various conditions - die radius, sheet thickness and controlled tensile force. The springback angles were measured from 'sidewall curl' of deformed shape. The tendency of springback angle was observed from the tests.

Magnesium alloy sheets have unique mechanical properties such as high in-plane anisotropy/asymmetry of yield stress and hardening response. So, there will be a difference in the prediction of springback with symmetric mechanical properties for magnesium alloy sheets. In this work, the Strip draw/bend tests were conducted with various conditions - die radius, sheet thickness and controlled tensile force and the tendency of springback angle was observed from the tests.

곡면 엘보우를 가진 사각덕트 내의 유속측정 및 수치계산에 관한 연구 (Study on Velocity Measurement and Numerical Computation in a Rectangular Duct with $90^\circ$ Bend Elbow)

  • Fluid flow in a rectangular duct for 90$^{\circ}$ bend elbow with the ratio of 1.5 between its curvature radius and width is measured by 5 W laser doppler velocity meter. The fluid flow is also computed by commercial software of STAR-CD for comparison between measured and computed velocity profiles in the duct. Reynolds numbers for the comparison are 11,643, 19,746 and 24,260. From the comparison, computation of principal velocity components in the duct predicts the experimental data somewhat satisfactorily even though those of minor velocity components and turbulent kinetic energy do not match with the experimental data quite well. K-factor for the bend elbow is computed to be average 0.086 while the equivalent ASHRAE data is 0.07.

내부 감육 배관의 손상압력 평가 모델 개발 (Development of Failure Pressure Evaluation Model for Internally Well Thinned Piping Components)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop failure pressure evaluation models, which are applicable to straight pipes and elbows containing an internally wall thinning defect induced by flow-accelerated-corrosion (FAC). In this study, thus, three dimensional finite element (FE) analyses are performed to investigate the dependences of failure pressure of internally wall thinned pipe on the defect shape, the pipe geometry, and the defect location and bend radius of elbow. Also, the existing failure pressure assessment models for externally wall thinned pipes are examined. Based on these, the new models for assessing failure pressure of piping components with an internally wall thinning defect are proposed. Comparison of failure pressure, predicted by proposed models, with FE analysis result shows good agreement regardless of pipe type, defect shape, and defect location and bend radius.

SM20C 마찰용접부(摩擦鎔接部)의 노치 깊이에 따른 기계적(機械的) 성질(性質) 연구(硏究) (A Study on Mechanical Properties According to the Depth of Notch in SM20C Friction Welding Zone)

  • The present study examined the mechanical properties of the friction welding zone of solid and hollow shafts made with SM20C according to the depth of the notch. Friction welding was conducted at welding conditions of 2,000 rpm, friction pressure of 60MPa, friction time of 1.4 seconds, upset pressure of 100MPa, and upset time of 2.0 seconds. In the tensile strength test, the tensile strength decreased as the depth of the notch increased. Tensile strength was moderately high when the depth of the notch was 2mm. The tensile strength of the welding zone increased as the friction revolution radius increased, because the latter led to the generation of adequate friction heat. According to the hardness test, hardness likewise increased as e friction revolution radius increased. In the bending test, the bend strength of the solid shaft decreased when the depth of the notch was 0-2mm but increased when the latter was 3-5mm. With regard to the hollow shaft, the bend strength drastically decreased when the depth of the notch was 3-4mm. Upon examination it was found that the microstructure became finer when the friction revolution radius increased.

박판을 이용한 Z-굽힘 가공의 전개 길이에 관한 연구 (A study on the unfolding length of Z-bending machining using thin plate)

  • The bending process of a press die is to bend a flat blank to the required angle. There are V-bending, U-bending, Z-bending, O-bending etc. for bending processing, and the basic principle of calculating the unfolding length of die processing is used as the neutral plane length. Since the constant of the length value of the neutral surface is different depending on the type of bending, it is impossible to accurately calculate it. In particular, Z-bending processing is performed twice, and it is set on the upper and lower surfaces of the blank, and bending processing occurs at the same time as the upward and downward bending, and the elongation of the material occurs and the material increases. It is not possible to check with the calculated value, and it occurs in many cases where the mold is modified after start-up. This study aims to minimize die modification by developing a formula to calculate the development length of Z-bend.
